  • Learn how to make a simple open crown hat/potae with NZ Flax/Phormium Tenax or other materials. This video is for the basic version of this very popular hat type here in NZ and I have created a more advanced version of this for our members-only area on my website (www.flaxworx.co.nz) as well if you want to check it out and sign up to become a member. As always, most of my videos are aimed at people who have some experience in weaving already so are not meant for total beginners.

    Thank you this tutorial is amazing you make it look so easy. I definitely gonna try it. I wish you do more tutorials like this. I would like you to do a dog bed I want to do one for my dog.

      Kia Ora Isabella, you could try the more complex Wahakura Tutorial for a dog bed (also on my YT Channel), we are restricted by the length of our leaves when it comes to Flax weaving so that would probably the best option. Or you could search Katarina Tawiri and her Waikawa Wahakura tutorial, also on YT. I do have about 80 odd videos on my website (in the subscriber only space that is $15 a month and add free) but not all are here on youtube as most are quite complex and more for advanced weavers. You can check it out on www.flaxworx.co.nz/WeaversCircle (there are some free to watch FAQ videos as well)

    I wanted to ask, maybe I missed it but is there a point in time where you can size it to someone's head size? I'm dying to try this. I've always wanted one.

      Not you could measure the head and then when you lay the first row of whenu measure that before joining. That seems to work best

    Once you make the brim & add on throughout a whole row, do you carry on adding on as you move down?

    • @Flaxworx
      @Flaxworx  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can but don't have to. Just depends on how wide you want to make the brim really and how long your original whenu are.

    • @Flaxworx
      @Flaxworx  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@konstantinsirenko4600 uhh I don't know actually. I do have a different type of hat on here as well that starts as a 4 corner basket (and can be formed to be more or less round) but not one with removable top - not sure sorry. you might have to try and and then you are the inventor:-)
