She has a life long enchantment with these 4 Last Songs -she had wonderful stage presence and simply floated across the stage as well as that superb voice and drop dead gorgeous looks -the complete soprano. There are 6 great recordings of this -Kirsten Fjagstad ; della Casa; Schwarzkoft , Norman , Janowitz and Isokowskl -all are superb so take your personal choice -none will disappoint.

In a 1963 BBC television interview conducted in English, when the soprano was in mid-career, she was asked if smoking were not bad for her health. Smilingly she replied: "You know, while in Vienna, I went to a special singers' doctor [who told me] 'it is the singing which is more dangerous than the smoking', and I smoke longer than I sing."
A most interesting fact. Was Strauss still living? Probably not, right. He did see her Zdenka w the gone too soon Maria Cebotari in the title role & foresaw Della Casa's singing Arabella one day. But did he foresee she'd become THE Arabella of a century?
Perfectly beautiful, and beautifully perfect but if I want to hear the greatness of this music fully realised in my opinion its Schwarzkopf I would listen to
I would rate Lisa della Casa and Jessey Norman as my favorite interpreters of the Four Last Songs although their voices are very different - a silvery soprano versus a huge but controlled voice with a mezzo tinting. One thing they have in common is the beauty of their voices. Probably the Norman interpretation has more depth …

CDは、どこかの店で中古で買いました。
当時は、CD一枚買うだけでも大変でした。 数軒の中古店へ行って、一枚一枚取り上げて探しまくるわけですから。
他の人も、そうやって探しまくっていました。
そうやっても、なかなか目当ての歌手のCDは滅多に手に入りませんでした。
声楽CD自体多くありませんから。
現在はTH-camの動画で、超珍しい動画音楽も一瞬で無料で手に入るような、当時からすれば信じられない時代です。
