The most outstanding lyrical coloratura soprano today! With so many of the great bel cantists no longer with us or at the end of their careers ... Oropesa is a beacon of bel canto purity and an example of how respect for tradition and discipline can produce divinely-inspired singing. She is superlative, humble, beautiful and just astounding!!
I was there. She was stunning, surprisingly so IMO. Always loved her but I didn't expect to have a such a success in a role that I would have thought was a bit beyond her in relation to what she's sung thus far.
She is very good. Great control of her voice. I was a little surprised to hear all those small extras she added to the aria, but I liked it. It was good.
To me JS was always the one and only, but I adore Lisette, and this is superb, suddenly she seems to have a much fuller voice. Now I must listen to herMad Scene.
Yes there is indeed similar - it is something in the Timbre. Slightly Callas-like but not a parody that Aliberti opted for. Opresa is exceptional - such a musical and intelligent singer with a stunning instrument and excellent technique
A much smaller and lighter voice, but a lot of her phrasing, her understanding of the give and take of rubato, the legato-ness of fioritura, perfect trills, and the ability to see the architecture of this music as a whole reminds me most of Callas. She also has the same mastery of portamento, where each portamento has a clear direction and never degenerates into "mooning and mooching." Interestingly, the other soprano who has a lot of the same qualities is Eglise Gutierrez, who is also of cuban extraction.
I think what sets her apart is that she has absorbed Callas's virtues, the musicality, the expressive use of oranmentation, the cello-like legato, the fluid coloratura, but she never apes Callas. There have been a lot of Callas imitators who truly sound ridiculous. They imitate Callas including her faults, but not her musical virtues or her genius. Lisette, I think, is a true Student of Callas. The more I listen to her, the more I adore and admire her.

There is great elegance in your singing Dame Oropesa ! Thanks for sharing !
Thank you so much for posting this. Lisette Oropesa was simply stunning in these performances of Lucia at the ROH.

So looking to here her in the new production of Rigoletto at the ROH and Violetta in La Traviata in octobre. Divine Lisette.
Excellent rendition, abeit a little slow for my personal taste, of this very difficult music. And she has real trills, wonderfully done. Brava.
Oh la la une pointure cette chanteuse !!!! Bravo
Heavenly performance.
She is very good. Great control of her voice. I was a little surprised to hear all those small extras she added to the aria, but I liked it. It was good.

She has the spirit of Maria and the skills of Beverly ,and she also learned by singing Cleopatra .

Regnava nel silenzio
Alta la notte e bruna…

Raggio di tetra luna…
Quando sommesso un gemito
Fra l’aure udir si fe’,
Ed ecco su quel margine
L’ombra mostrarsi a me!

Il labbro suo vedea,
E con la mano esanime
Chiamarmi a sé parea.
Stette un momento immobile
Poi ratta dileguò,
E l’onda pria sì limpida,
Di sangue rosseggiò! -
Egli è luce a’ giorni miei,
E conforto al mio penar
Quando rapito in estasi
Del più cocente amore,
Col favellar del core
Mi giura eterna fe’;
Gli affanni miei dimentico,
Gioia diviene il pianto…
Parmi che a lui d’accanto
Si schiuda il ciel per me!
sounds a little like gheorghiu in the lower middle...when she starts quanto rapito
I agree. Similar timbre just in the lower octave
Lupo A. Janelli exactly....Angela's top isn't act as nimble and controlled. but it's crazy though. no one ever sounds like her lol

Literally sounds like Callas reincarnated

Shahrdad thanks for this!!!! I'm going to look her up
That's what I observed too. She actually loves Callas.
Beautifully stated
Bravaaaaaa!!!!
