Brilliant videos has a ex coal miner fromm Staffordshire I knew nothing of the somerset coal field thank you so much for the in sight into a forgotten coal field
Well done. I have a strong interest in the Somerset coal field. You have a rich history to cover, that could take you some distance from Midsommer Norton & Radstock.
I'm going to try and get back to the ones I missed, had a lot on my plate recently, got some colliery videos in the editing stage. I'm sure Norton Hill you can't get to the sire please if you know of a way in let know
The building at 4 minutes is what was the “screens” where coal was sorted from the muck and into sizes Just up the concrete ramp the shaft top itself is still visible if you know where to look, and a lot bigger diameter than 8’, I have a photo if you want
I walked up the concrete slope but didn't see the shaft top, ill have to re-visit and have another look, thanks again for the information its really appreciated 👍 stay safe
Very interesting. I am planning to have a look at these same sites too but will now be next Spring. However, I plan a visit to Radstock tomorrow as it is the last chance before the closedown on Thursday. Just hope the weather stays reasonable. The building at Ludlow looked as if it was still in use when I visited it a few weeks ago. I was surprised to learn here that it is soon to be demolished. Another part of our industrial history will be gone forever.
It is a shame 😔 , lockdown is going to put a stop to filming or I can get the push bike out and call it fitness🤔 I've got some footage further along from radstock,
@@Towpathtraveller1693 - Considering that the Somerset Coalfield is "concealed" beneath much younger Jurassic rocks, it makes me wonder what gave the cash-strapped Earl Waldegrave the idea that he might be able to "get rich quick" by digging for "black gold" deep beneath the centre of Radstock! Incidentally, the Waldegraves weren't the only dynasty of Conservative politicians to make big money out of Somerset coal - the Rees~Moggs did so as well!

At 17.20 you’re actually pointing at the top of the Norton Hill old pit shaft, which has been excavated and renovated to about 4’ as a memorial
Thanks for that information,
@@Towpathtraveller1693 drop me an email, and have other info for you to see more things there
you guys will get GHOST ADVENTURES next as a very paranormal find hope this can get this thing before GONE
Wellsway colliery is the place for ghost adventures, the cage plunged to the bottom of the shaft all were killed
I think you mean "We are standing here" as opposed to the grammatically-incorrect "We are stood here"!
Thanks for pointing that out.
