Interesting! Violin makers (at least recently) often "voice" the instrument they are building. In this process, you use a tap tone to determine if the plates are thin enough to achieve a certain note. Some makers are very good at this, others struggle to learn (me, for example). If they are unable to discern the correct tap tone, they can resort to microphone and software to map out all the tones the plate can achieve.

Hello Gervase! 'My violin is a Gallant;' you have a beautiful name for a violin maker...
It's so fascinating to learn how instrument makers use different senses. My partner wanted a new double bass and visited the maker who showed him round his huge collection of aged wood, tapping and knocking the wood as he went. The maker finally chose the wood saying, 'That sounds like you!'
I wish you all the best on your violin journey. It's a great joy to play on a well made violin. Mary❤

Hello Kirsi! Very well done! Taking the finger tapes off is a great step to trusting yourself and giving freedom to your left hand fingers. You should be very pleased that you took this step and had success! Take care and keep going! Mary❤

Hello Katie! have fun with your notes! By the way, your left hand is looking gorgeous and your vibrato movement is lovely - but don't try too hard to speed things up.
Instead do lots of fast scales, G,D and A major to make your FINGERS stronger and faster. At the moment your finger speed is quite slow, you see?
Then you'll find your vibrato will go at supersonic speed. Keep going Katie! Mary❤

Hola Mary!

Hello Lola! What a beautiful reminder of the simple, wonderful things around us, especially the sea. I don't live by the sea and I just love to visit with my partner and Florence our dog...I love picking up shells, sea glass and interesting little stones while feeling the endless energy of the waves free my mind...wonderful just thinking about it...
Thank you for such inspiration and a big hug to you! Mary❤

Nikola Tesla said everything has frequency. We often tune to the frequency of 440 HZ for the A note. It's also interesting when we talk we talk in frequencies. I often hear people sing song talking kind of like.

Hello! Nikola Tesla said a lot of fascinating things, didn't he? Sound itself is a synonym for frequency. I think we musicians are very lucky to be able to develop our hearing to an advanced degree. It makes the world around us quite magical and it's fun when we can perceive people talking in notes. "Sing song talking' is a great description! Mary❤

Dear Mary, this is very interesting,
I like trying to identify the notes of a very good blackbird that wakes me up every morning, but I'm not able to...
It is so in tune and so fast :)

Hello Mary! I have a little project of my own regarding the blackbirds I feed every morning - they're waiting for me; one in particular gets very close - I call him Ludwig and whistle the 3rd movement of the Beethoven Violin Concerto to him. He cocks his head and seems to be listening. One day he'll sing it back to me! Mary❤
