I said at the time that it was an appalling appointment. I fear it's actually worse than that. After a decent start to the season it's a absolutely non-sensical move by Birmingham to bring in a guy who is so far from being management material it's untrue. While I feel like Rooney could be a good manager, but for how he's come in like this, it's not gonna work. To already be blaming the players too, like? It's not going to work, Blues were in a steady position, and now he's tacking them backwards. Yes, maybe if he got some of HIS players, it might get better, but you CAN'T just rip up how a team works, and expect YOUR style to suddenly work, IN THE MIDDLE OF A SEASON.

@@ianandrew8750 You adjust, and build towards bringing in players in transfer windows. The most important thing to do initially is to sure up defence, be hard to beat. You then assess all the strengths of the players and you teach them to keep possession, make sure they are comfortable on the ball, then you have training sessions to introduce playing out from the back. In other words you manage and you coach.

Rooney did nothing but an awful job. He caused so much damage in such a short space of time. I'm so pleased and relieved that Rooney has gone. He was there far too long, and he shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

Darragh's got it absolutely smack on! It's hubris on the part of the board AND on Rooney to think that HE can come in with HIS ideas of how football should be played, roll it out to players who (respectfully) aren't of that calibre and expect to get results. Nonsense on stilts! And now he's fallen flat on his face! It follows, he's going to have to back track to a more Eustace style of play just to get the best out of the players he's got. Wayne Rooney: Out. Ashley Cole: In! That's the ticket... 👍

There is definitely some long term Hollywood/California plan for Birmingham city, standing outside the woods looking at the trees, Birmingham are the last "big" club available in England, blues are a huge club, the history is a bit thin, but the potential supporter base isnt, a competitive Birmingham side would easily attract crowds as big as villa, I think Rooney is there purely for the name, he is known all around the world, he is just a name to link with publicity, Tom Brady isnt involved for rainy nights in wrexham, they are looking long term, hopefully Rooney can keep them up this season, but time will tell.

I joked about this on the Benjamin Bloom YT show. That this appointment was a joke. John Eustace had Birmingham 6th at the time of his sacking, yet the American owners got rid, probably because Rooney became available and they wanted a 'big name' in the dug out, a bit of prestige, bragging rights..... 3 games in, 3 losses, Birmingham are back in the relegation fight, they WOULD have sacked Eustace for, if they were still down there at this stage of the season, because obviously, they have desires of PL promotion. They're as deluded as the owners of Bristol City..... who recently sacked Nigel Pearson because they wanted promotion this season and are frequenting n that "just above the relegation zone" area of the table.
