About the infamous wig, there's 2 theories/rumors/allegations:
1. They finally went on and bleached her hair, but it went wrong, so they had to pick a wig at the very last minute.
2. She lost a bet with Felicia, her personal assistant, and had to wear it for fun.
Remember that this was the 90s and TV was not HD at all, hence why it wasn't as noticeable as now.

mmmm... I think it's really hard to know what people, especially celebrities are like behind closed doors... We all put on our best face in public... but that's what her job is when she does these interviews. Ash James yeah i’ve heard that performance, she does sound gorgeous! but the baby voice she put on has still extremely damaged her voice. she still has a good voice on her, but the baby voice is very vocally straining and i’m sure if she didn’t have to put it on then her voice would still be much stronger. still, a very talented woman!

But when it made to Fox TV Special and DVD Live and More, they redubbed her live singing with the studio tracks giving the wrong impression she was lip syncing. Same with Femme Fatal tours and many more :/

She used to always sing live but fans were mad that she wasnt dancing so lip syncing helps her hit the dance moves and she chose to do that for the fans. N she has a unique voice whichever is her real voice deep or high its still her sound and no one can replicate. Shes still throwing albums n bangers till this day shes so amazing n hard working she needs to b free so she can enjoy life n put her own music she wants out.
