Reducing upkeep is a garbage boost... Guild Fest, some Events, and Kingdom Tycoon give Champion gear for F2P Players... You won't get enough but if you try hard enough you should get the Off-Hand to at least green. It's a boost... And every boost counts!

Set talent , give 15% , 35% training boost👍
Why not gem troops? when your are an aktive fighter the is no other way to keep the troop count up
