URBAN3 Workshop Presentation - ESLC Sustainable Growth Workshop

Urban3 is the leading firm in the United States doing land use and fiscal sustainability research. Their data, and the impressive modeling maps they create show the varying value in land use investments in each community, bringing vital data to local governments. Urban3 recently shared their work at the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy Sustainable Growth Workshop hosted at Chesapeake College.
Today, the connection between land use and fiscal sustainability is rarely made, and the liability and responsibility of local governments to maintain infrastructure are rarely factored into development projects. There is new research available through GIS that compares property tax data with investments for public services to create a measurement called "value per acre" (VPA). This measurement is a tool local government can use to better understand their return on investment with each development and redevelopment project. VPA contrasts the public investment in infrastructure and services with property tax revenues.
