Another great video! One thing I do with my truck and my ADV motorcycle is I use the tool kit that I carry to do service and upgrades, that way I have a pretty good idea of the tools I need.
That's a great idea!
YES!!!!!!! My TH-cam celebs!!! Glad you guys decided to do this video. If anything, it's an " SOS-101" for everyone... Thanks again... and Remember kids, Carrying more is always better than Not enough!!!
Kiss Kiss thanks as always! 💋Truth - but even better if you can get it all to fit in a small space. Have a great weekend!
@@WanderlostOverland Amen to that!! 😉
Great vid. I like the emergency valve stems and tie rods, those are very common repairs. I may have missed it but a pickle fork for getting tie rods off can save a lot of hammering. A bag of large nylon ties is a life saver sometimes.
The pickle fork is a great idea! We have one in our shop but it would definitely come in handy on the trail!
Super helpful. Just started to think about what I should be carrying in my 4runner...
Nice vid. Did you mention the most important thing? Duct Tape!!! ;-)
You bet! Duct tape came in handy when we broke out the rear side window a few months ago. 😀
Silicone Tape is better! It has high temp capabilities that duct tape doesn't.
Great list! Subscribed! Thanks!!
Awesome! Thank you!
I carry most of the same tools you do but you did show me some things I should add. Instead of jumper cables I carry a portable jump box. Since I am usually by my self.
Since I have a 4runner as well is it safe to assume I should carry metric wrenches or do I need a mix of metric & standard? I am in the process of building my kit and I plan on getting some of those tool rolls. Thanks for the info.
mykalbee i have a 3rd gen T4R and I carry both metric and standard with me at all times. You never know when you have a buddy riding along with you who may need the tools.
@@heatheronwheels good idea thanks
I wish we could upload pictures. I carry a small craftsman tool 13" tool box with a little tray and storage compartments in the lid(search for it on amazon). I have full assortment of 1/4 and 3/8 sockets and extensions and a few specialty sockets, ratchet wrenches, channel locks, pliers, vise grips, Butane solder iron, spare wire, wire connectors, fuses, screwdriver with several bits, allen wrenches, tire repair kit, battery post and cable cleaner, rubber gloves...... more I am sure I cant remember. Great video
Head over to our Facebook page and share your pics with us.
FJ 4tw, thanks for posting, the spare parts box is now part of my check list for the future.
How did you secure the mortar cans to FJ ? Thanks
I love your channel just started following you today
Here's my tools....nevermind. I do carry a 1/2" deep drive set (metric and standard) and a long 1/2" breaker driver. Primarily because I put my tool bag together to work on my (former) Ford and my Land Rover and anyone else who's with me. Now I have an FJ instead of the Ford, it's all still in there. I agree that tool rolls rock. My wife says I have a bag obsession, and tool rolls are just another kind of bag, though with lots of compartments. I do not have a lot of spare parts yet - A) LR parts cost a poopton, and B) I haven't figured out the ideal ones to have for my FJ. I do have more than one glove (plus nitrile gloves - good for both vehicle AND human/pet repair).
Another great job, preparing for Expo this week, just so much to take. Just finished installing my SSO bumber and winch. You video was an inspiration, well, maybe not an inspiration, but a great help. No I did not do the work myself, but it helped the guy who did. Thanks again for all the help, and wishing you safe mile and blue skies
Your comment inspires us to continue making videos! We are incredibly pleased we were of help.
What is the make of the tool roll please
That's the dude from X-Files. \m/
Do you recommend a smaller tool set for folks who (overland/regular) travel on regular roadways, but are broken down on a lonely stretch of highway that does not see too much traffic; i.e. long roads in some desolate part of Texas or in the Sierra Nevadas?
If you're
going to be able to easily get help for any large or complicated repairs you
could downsize a bit. Since you probably won't be taking apart the suspension
or steering systems you could go with a smaller 3/8" socket set, and omit
the pipe (ratchet extension). You won't need the tire repair kit if you have a
spare tire onboard. I'm sure there are a few more items you could do without.
@@WanderlostOverland Thanks guys....
Good job guys👍
Thanks!
Do you still carry that many replacement parts for your t4R?
No, not really. We don't beat on the 4R like we do the FJ.
Don't forget extra oil,washer fluid,and coolant.
Flashlight/Battery Work Light (Magnetic base)
Bunch of random bolt hardware. Seems like the most common issue on long overland trips is some bolt that vibrated loose and fell out. Usually shock bolts.
Excellent addition! Shock bolts, control arm nuts, skid plate bolts, 👍
That's a lot of shit wouldn't it be easier just to get a triple A. Membership and satellite phone and call it a day.
Sometimes we think so. 😀
Price a satellite phone and try convincing AAA to leave the pavement for you.
