I love that you make everything special, on a budget. And you never look down on people, for not being able to afford the best. You make” thrifty “ delicious!!
I wouldn’t give the haters any thought when it comes to their opinions on shopping. They obviously don’t know what it’s like living the struggle. What I love about this video is the same thing that I have loved on all of your videos. It’s your way of taking these humble ingredients that some people will turn their nose up at and turning them into actual meals that taste good and anyone would be proud of. A single mother may take these ideas and give her kids their first true thanksgiving meal because you showed that it’s possible. Thank you for the care and compassion you put into every video!!
@@mickeymousey1239I assume she and others are referring to LisaDawns statements in the beginning of the video. It’s too bad she has to explain herself like she did.
dont let the trolls get to you..I think you give very good options and advice to limited consumers...I live rural upstate NY;...grow alot of my own veggies and some meat...not everyone is able to do what I do..chin up girl
Thank you! 💙 I think it's often not even trolls (though sometimes it definitely is lol), just people who don't know what they don't know. The idea of the nearest grocery store being a 45 minute drive away, or only being able to access stores that you can walk to, or even just the real vs tv experience of poverty itself is just so completely outside the experience of a lot of people that "why wouldn't you just shop at a normal grocery store" is the obvious well meaning alternative to them. Also, I love that you can raise your own meat! I definitely hope to be able to do that someday! Andrew is from upstate NY, it's a beautiful part of the country!
I long ago refused to let trolls get to me when I do my political satire blog. I tune the out, do my thing and get published in various media outlets. You cannot listen to them, don't let them bait you, just block them. Life is too short and you are doing great. Keep up the good work.
We're just like to add. I have 3 college graduates with master's degrees from 47. My daughter, who would have been 35 this year who passed on 28 and already had to bachelors the year of 2017 when was 3 weeks from going into her masters degree. So I consider her conquering the education part. We've always struggled, we're farmers and landscapers. We live seasonal, and we've been married 49 years and hope for 49 more.
You made a meal that anyone would be thankful to eat!!! It looks like a fancy, expensive restaurant meal. You just taught people who can't afford a lot or a small family that doesn't want a lot, how to make a delicious meal ❤❤❤❤❤ My family of 3 are living in a pop-up camper right now. We have an electric skillet to cook our meals. I watch your videos and others also to help figure our meals. Thank you and I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving 🙏
I have watched your videos for several years now, and I always enjoy what you make with what you are able to find. I agree that there are so many food deserts in our country, and many people don't have reliable transportation or access to healthy foods and have to make due with what they can get close to them. Thank you for posting these and giving great ideas for everyday and holiday meals!
Many years when my older children were small. We never missed a holiday. It might not be a traditional holiday meal. But we were fortunate enough to be grateful for what we had.
Yay, I love that you are posting more frequently. Anyone can cook a great meal with highest quality ingredients; it takes someone with real creativity to make a delectable meal out of stuff from discount stores. You truly are amazing and your content gives me so much comfort in a weary world.
Yes! “Struggling is NOT a moral failing.” 💕 I like comparing prices- Stove Top brand stuffing is $1.63 at my nearest Walmart right now (Great Value is .97), so that DG is crazy! Would love to see you do a Thanksgiving meal on a budget from Aldi!!!
Second comment. I made a great cheap stuffing during university and still use this recipe today (only I do add more mushrooms etc now) So shred up any stale bread(Walmart near me has 44c day old baguettes) In a pan fry a chopped onion and a few fresh mushrooms in oil. I add the bread to the pain ..then add any seasonings I want (garlic, black pepper, paprika and poultry seasoning) Throw in a couple tablespoons of margarine . Combine chicken bouillon in two cups of water to your taste…pop that fried bread onion mushroom mixture in a baking pan and pour the liquid over it…and bake.Average cost 2 bucks Canadian if that!
Here’s an idea if you don’t have money for produce and you already have your hot vegetable sides like the corn casserole, green beans casserole already done and want a cold veggie, use canned pickled beets and serve that as a cold salad with artichoke hearts or cold vegetable succotash or mixed vegetables with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder and black pepper…they are good really cold if you can get kids to eat a bite but most kids may not enjoy it but adults probably can get a little more veggies into their meal that way. I’m definitely a meat/potatoes girl but that’s how I round out dinner sometimes.
I am SO excited that you are doing multiple thanksgiving viedos this year!! I know it's extremely hard work, but please know it's extremely appreciated by us! :)!
The Dollar General closest to me has very recently improved with stocking and correct pricing. But there were several frustrating years it was like the one you describe/show. Hopefully yours will improve too. As always thanks for such a good video!
When the app says they're in stock items may have been shoplifted. I drove a fairly long way across my city for a specific item which was showing in stock in only that particular branch out of more than ten stores. The staff then told me they think those are showing up on the system despite not being in the store due to theft.
If you get a chance try a bag of red potatoes from DG. The bag I bought was better than other grocery stores. Fresher. Also if you want cheaper stuffing you can buy another box of Jiffy cornbread mix and make stuffing out of cornbread.
Was so happy to see a new video from you!! I love Dollar General as the prices for spices and snacks are great! They also run deals on mayo and canned goods that can’t be beat. 👱♀️🦃
Lisa, it's always wonderful to see you have a new video. Thank you so much for your efforts. Please, NEVER let the negative, or misinformed comments discourage you. You are a joy to watch, you have some great ideas and hacks. Those of us who continue to enjoy your videos know we can always substitute fresh or better value foods, should we be able to afford and/or have the means to obtain those foods. Please don't change your interest, style, advice, etc. Unfortunately, there are many people in "food deserts ", without cars who truly have to live with the kind of limits you show. ❤
Amazing video again Lisa! I think it's wonderful that you show how to cook a lovely meal with limited options, I'm sure many people appreciate it. Looking forward to your next video, love from Australia 💚
45 yrs old .. and go home to eat still . I dnt know how id live without my mom ... still . What you can do is amazing ! I just give my moms the money and she lets me come eat . I feel like i should have been grown by now 😂 every video you make
I really appreciate your creativity in using limited ingredients to prepare a nice dinner. I probably would have left out one of the starches and added a green canned or frozen veg Thank you!
Beautiful table setting!! Yummy food. Love the cakes!! Looks so pretty! Thanksgiving we always make a list of what we are thankful for. You, sweet lady, are always on my list! So very grateful for all you do. Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving🦃🍁💕
Yes Lisa don't you worry about those negative people. Those are people that put negative crap out no matter what they're never ever happy and they find fault with everything and everyone. What a miserable life they lead. Your videos are entertaining they are informative you have a great personality I love watching them and it hurts me that people talk to you like that. I hope you can let it roll off your back like a duck. I wish there was a way you could just block those kind of people and don't even waste your time answering them. Keep up these great videos because we love them
My Mother in Law lives in a place that has a Dollar General, but the nearest grocery store is 36 miles away. There are so many people in small places like this, so these videos are super helpful.
First, Lisa, I absolutely love watching you Honestly, I do not understand what some people comment or question you about your content You have always been totally honest and upfront about your choices , especially the stores you shop at and why Also, I agree with other subscribers that you are non judgmental I am very fortunate that I am able to afford purchasing fresh ingredients But now that I am retired and on a fixed income, things may change Nobody really knows what tomorrow will bring I love your frugality I learn so much from you Happy Thanksgiving And Thank you for being you !❤
Girl you are good. Love the cranberry cakes, I would have used ground pork or sausage though instead of turkey cold cuts. It’s your video haha def a dinner I would appreciate eating on a budget. ❤
With the way prices have gone up,a lot of people struggle to put food on the table. You give some good ideas to enjoy this time of the year.Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Your videos are great in every way. That last little bit of soup probably could have disappeared quite handily in the stuffing adding a bit of creamy flavor if that’s one’s thing.
So great full from my farm to town. We have a lady that for the last 20 sum year says sold legs. She has her whole sideporch fixed up. You can buy crack eggs out of the milk cooler. Up to usually 99% double yokers. Now she charges 450 for those, and she sells ducks eggs. If you ever have a chance to get ducks, eggs to bake bread or cakes , it make some so much richer and so much tastier. I checked at the regular grocery store the other day. And they organic eggs were over 7 dollars, so I'm very grateful. The last 20 plus years for the young lady. Who is? We're not young anymore? But so grateful, our Mother's taught us to get by with everything. We raise butchered ones. You do those chores at 4 in the morning and take a shower? Try to dry your hair to go to school and catch school bus. You appreciate what you have. You never waste my husband and I still raise a 14 year old. We're 70s, and of course. He pushes learning the old ways but hands-on. I watch him so grateful. I've been watching you sent for years now thank you
Lisa, I absolutely look forward to all of your dollar tree/Dollar General/Walmart holiday meals. Keep it coming, girlfriend. Also, go Eagles have a happy Thanksgiving
I’ve eaten raw cake batter for 60 years and am still here. Never got sick from licking the bowl. The cake sounds good
I had to share the bowl or spoon with my sis. Your lucky to get it to yourself. I like cookie mix!😊
Yes agree nice to meet real people who use to eat raw cake mix@@CynthiaRockroth

I love the budget friendly meals for those who may not have Thanksgiving otherwise. Well done. You always make a balanced meal.

I would never have thought to add cranberries to cake mix. It sounds delicious. Once again, good job! 👏
Any kind of dried fruit makes a difference. I have used dried blueberries as well as dried pineapple.
And if whole cranberry sauce had been available, it would of had those little chunks of berries and been even better.
Absolutely love it! turkey skewers… didn't see that one coming so creative!

Dollar general started selling some fresh produce . You've always been good at helping people make some meal for a holiday . Kudos for you Lisa .
How delightful in every way 😍

Canned potatoes also make great potatoe salad. 😋

The dollar general by my job has a fresh produce section now. Nothing looks too good and is over priced, but I was impressed they had it.
Thanks EVER so much for this Lisa D!! Your videos are WONDERFUL!!

I love all of your videos. Keep going. They don't come out as often as other creators so when one pops up, it is a real treat.
I gotta try that cake!
May give that cranberry cake a try, but make it gluten free. And everything looked really yummy. Can't wait for the next one.
Very good!
I bought that same casserole dish (corn casserole) this year, and will be using it for the first time this Thanksgiving.

Love it! I never thought of turkey skewers they look amazing! In fact everything looks amazing! Love the table! Great job!
I am so happy that our nearest Dollar General has fresh fruit and vegetables and the prices and quality are compaable to local grocery stores.
Girl you are good. Love the cranberry cakes, I would have used ground pork or sausage though instead of turkey cold cuts. It’s your video haha def a dinner I would appreciate eating on a budget. ❤
what wonderful ideas! great meal and comforting too! thanks Lisa Dawn !
I really enjoy your Thanksgiving vids!!
I LOVE to cook... LOVE IT... but am very unimaginative... Lisa can make something basically out of nothing.. my mama was like that.
With the way prices have gone up,a lot of people struggle to put food on the table.
You give some good ideas to enjoy this time of the year.Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
I like making turkey roll ups with turkey lunch meat and a boxed dressing and gravy.. bake in oven till hot through..
Corn casserole usually has butter and sour cream in it fyi.
Loved it thank you for sharing..
Yay! Another video.

Well done n thanks.😊
I would have never thought to roast/brown canned carrots and potatoes but will give it a try as I have both in my pantry.
Lisa, I absolutely look forward to all of your dollar tree/Dollar General/Walmart holiday meals. Keep it coming, girlfriend. Also, go Eagles have a happy Thanksgiving
Awesome ideas and I love your creativity!
You are just so cool and so fun to watch. Thank you for the tips, tricks and recipes
Everything looked great and I agree I think the only thing I would have done differently is roast up the potato’s & Carrots first before squiring. 😊
I would only use half the canned cranberry in the cake and served the rest of the can as a cold side
