Just around the time the Sade box was announced in the fall, i found a sealed Audio Fidelity copy of Diamond Life for $30. Grabbed it, even though i planned on ordering the box set.
I remember being in your shop a couple years ago and you were cranking Diamond Life (an original press) louder than i'd ever heard anyone play it before lol. It came through crystal clear though, really made me appreciate the uncompressed sound that vinyl offers.

Does “Cherry Pie” in the box set have the original intro? (I have all of the Audio Fidelity versions too. They are so great.) Also all of the 90’s vinyl I bought back in the day was hip hop. It was one of the holdouts b/c of DJ culture. Also got a great Coltrane Heavyweight Champion vinyl box set released in 1995.

I guess hen it comes to collecting any commercially successful artist, I'm wondering if it's going to yield anything I haven't already heard 1,000 times or more. However, I didn't know that her some of her output was that hard to find, so the value of owning it will improve over time, even though it might not be an immediate listen. However, no bonus tracks, or even a photobook? I mean she is one of the most beautiful women who has ever lived!
Hey Mike, are you really sure with the MOV comparison of the last 3 albums? To me the MOV sound way better, much more dynamic with better extension and depth of image and impact. The box set version is the one which sounds compressed against it. I usually rely on your shootouts but this was the complete opposite to me. Did you review it once more after that?
Mike, have you had a chance to compare the recent Sade releases (2024) with the ones in the box set? are they the same versions from the box? or does one sound better than the other?
I think this statement could explain why the originals sound more modern and the later albums sound better. For This Far, the Team used a slightly unusual remastering process. Working with longtime co-producer Mike Pela and engineer Miles Showell at the famed Abbey Road Studios, Sade began with digital transfers of the original stereo master mixes. They then utilized Showell's restored Neumann VMS80 cutting lathe in what a statement called an "elaborate, half-speed mastering process." This method promises "exceptionally clean and detailed audio whilst remaining faithful to the band's intended sound." No additional digital limiting was used in the mastering process so the six albums benefit from the advantage of extra clarity and pure fidelity, preserving the dynamic range of the original mixes for the very first time. So the first albums that were recorded Analog are now from a digital source and the later Digital recorded albums are improved by less limiting and the 1/2 speed process.
Mike awesome review I can’t wait til they release each album separately all I need is Soldier of Love I was fortunate to grab originals about 9 years ago in the used market those Audio Fidelity are amazing I have the Stronger than Pride and Promise . Definitely check out Love Deluxe original UK pressing its awesome along with Lovers Rock UK.

I had multiple copies of her first four albums that I acquired from when I was aggressively hunting for records I kept one of each and sold and gave away the rest
The box set is still available. I’m tempted to get it but Diamond Life and Promise are the only ones I’d really listen to but you can still find these. I bought the European version of Diamond Life on Discogs and it sounded great and was reasonably priced.
I had the originals of Love Deluxe and Lovers Rock . I bought used UK pressings from Japan. They had noise issues (not sure if down to wear or pressings). Bought the MOV versions and found them better sounding plus great pressing. I got my money back on the originals but this was before prices became stupid (10 yrs ago).
Hopefully they will release the records individually. I love Lovers Rock obviously Diamond Life, but not sure I’ll ever listen to all six all the way through
I think that's a fair assumption that they would release them individually. Since, other than this box set, they are still technically out of print, they will still want to satisfy mass consumer demand. And the masses don't buy box sets. I bet within the next 6 months, you will see them individually.
I have two US og copies of Diamond Life and first US pressing on CD. For the money those sound the best. I've only seen one copy of Audio Fidelity vinyl and it was too high of price a price for my check book. I have a 1992 cd copy of Love Deluxe and considered getting the MOV record. I thought about getting this box set but decided i have all the Sade i need.

wow, you gave a completely opposite review to others who say the box set is flat, sterile, bass heavy, and doesn't compare to even the original cd quality.

Another digital record by Showell. The AUDIO FIDELITY versions are the ones.they need to do AAA versions at 45rpm.

it was the LOUDNESS WAR not specially CD war. 90's mastering was really not that good; too much noise reduction and too much dynamic compression.
