      I also suspect that fast food chains might like the idea because the amount of volume/area you can enclose for the same dimensions is smaller for a star as compared to a circle. It's just the perimeter that's larger. So they could basically sell you less meat at a slightly higher price in the name of novelty.

    I find two major problems with this experiment:
    1) To me cheese is an essential part of the burger eating experience. Typically a square slice of cheese is used on a round burger, meaning some edges of the burger are un-cheesed while the center of the burger remains the best bite. Would that stand true on other burger shapes?
    2) I want curly burgs with my curly fries

    Perfect burger shape is a diamond shape, that you cut in half to make 2 equilaterals. That way you get 6 bites with good coverage. Triangles make everything better!
    But barring that, since diamond comprised of 2 equilaterals isn't efficient to make, 2nd best would be square cut on the diagonal. So we need more square shaped buns!

    Correct triangle burger eating route: 1st corner, 2nd corner, Josh says 3rd corner here but No! 3rd bite is the edge between the first two corners, followed by along that edge if more bites are required according to your mouth size. Then go to the third corner and come back along it's adjacent sides as required.

  • @SheyD78
    @SheyD78 2 ปีที่แล้ว +66

    I think it's obvious that a burger should be the same shape and size (after cooking) as a piece of burger cheese. That way you get perfect cheese coverage (can always use a slightly smaller burger if you want cheese overhang), there are corners to attack when eating, you can use square/rectangular baking tins for the buns if baking them in batches which fit perfectly in the oven and 2 pieces of bacon make a square(ish). Perfection!

    Rectangle > Triangle > Circle > Star
    Rectangle beats out triangle. I don't think Josh delved deep enough into the prolonged experience. It gives you the perfect sequence of bites. You start at one end, bite one corner, then the other corner (on the same short length), then you're left with a perfect bite nub in the middle. Repeat. Corner, Corner, Middle. Corner, Corner, Middle.

    • @vigilantcosmicpenguin8721

      He doesn’t identify it, but I think he only likes acute-angled corner bites. His issue with the rectangle was the 90-degree corners, not the long edge.
      Now…if he made a parallelogram and placed his bites carefully, every bite would create a new acute-angled corner bite.

  • @galmannmedbart

    Star mixed with circle is CLEARLY a pentagon which would probably be a pretty good shape. corners are not too sharp so they won't get overcooked.
    But hexagons are the bestagons and tessellate perfectly. If I was going to start a burger place, I would do hexagonal burgers.

    I would argue that the hexagon is the ideal burger shape, at least for restaurants. Like the circle burger, it has a high surface area to circumference ratio, aiding in even cooking and maximizing condiments. With straight sides, packaging can be made that minimizes wasted space. Like a rectangle or triangle shape, it can be tight packed without gaps between the individual burgers.

    I'm too lazy to read the comments to see if anyone said this already. But the best burger is obviously a round burger cooked first, THEN, you cut it into a star shape. This whole episode I feel I was arguing with josh even tho he can’t hear me obviously. Round burger is best!!! With the triangle burger you could very easily have the same issues as the star burger and have it over cooked on the edges. With the round burger it will cook more evenly. ROUND BURGER SUPREMACY!!

    • @deprofundis3293
      @deprofundis3293 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, round burgers have the lowest edge to area ratio. I like crispy edges. Hence, round burgers are the worst! But I can see now how isolating sections TOO much (like with star burger) results in overcooking.

  • @jonmartinez7504

    I think the overcooking can be fixed either by other cooking methods or by practice getting the cook right. One option might be to core the center of the star, like a donut hole. This will get rid of most of the uneveness of the shape.

  • @randomnobody660
    @randomnobody660 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Slightly serious complaint:
    A possible reason for the weird shrinkage is because the beef was under weird tension when it was cut and cooked (as in, it was pushed down, so as muscle fibers get cooked it tenses up weird).
    Round burger doesn't have this problem because it was shaped, not pushed flat and cut.
    All burgers should have been shaped with similar techniques imo.
