I agree! I followed much of this summer tour and this was the perfect venue. Many of my friends showed up since it was a holiday, we were about 20 of the happiest people on the planet that weekend.
@Kevin Tobin Thanks for the "Audio Upgrade!! I was at this show and the following day and have only heard some poor quality bootlegs until now. What a great Christmas gift.
I appreciate that someone had the discipline to chronicle these memories for me while I was trying to have a good time like everyone else that day. Thank you! I was hoping they were going to do something special that day with that single night only, way out there in the middle of nowhere with more than a quarter of a million people in attendance, but this film confirms my memory from 37 years ago. This was a pretty pedestrian, take no chances, standard late 80s set list with a lack luster performance.
There was so much buzz leading up to these shows about a "New Speedway Boogie" going to be played, yet after the shows I never heard any regrets that it wasn't. Thanks for sharing this magical moment.
I quit the very next day I got my paycheck, and had the Time of my life and continued on dead tour until Jerrys death, Till about probably the family gathering at Alpine Valley. Then I did a few more Phil & Friends shows. Astros I want to watch the three for shows open Oakland with candlestick. Lol That’s what me and a few friends use to call him! Ty Kevin ✌🏼💫🌈
I can’t edit my last comment, there was estimated between 125,000 to 125,000 people like that show At least that many people! Needless to say, I didn’t do security very long.
I was there I know it’s my first show, and I was security! Obviously, I had no idea who we work were Hired us from Job Corps! I let probably let about $35,000 worth of cars parked for free! I was so high from Gooneybirds!
One of the greatest weekends of my (then young) life! Perfect blend of weather, scene, and music. Thanks for the flashbacks, Kevin. Peace y'all.
Agreed. A great weekend. Perfect weather
