It's amazing how similar it is to what we make in India. You have made the most common Indian staple food which we call dal (lentil) rice. And the brown lentil is what we call masoor dal which cooks quickly and so i make this with a bit of a variation when I am in a hurry to cook and have no time to cut and cook vegetables and Indian bread (roti or chapati)
Hey! My mom is Lebanese and this was a staple growing up. She always made a big pot and brought it to picnics lol. I thought it was so boring then but I absolutely love it now. Her recipe is different than yours but nonetheless I’m sure it’s delicious. Thanks for sharing!!! 💕
Hi Nico & Louise, this dish looks amazing!! I’m looking forward to making this for myself and my vegan best friend. I know it’s going to be a big hit😋 Thank you for sharing. Wishing you and yours a very happy, healthy, and prosperous new year 🎉🥰🙏🏾
I just made this for dinner; yum. I added a can of chickpeas; put this over a bed of fresh spinach & topped with hummus. Thanks for the recipe & good luck with your new endeavors!
Looks great. Will give it a try. I tend to caramelise my onions without sugar (find with sugar it is way too sweet for me) . They will take longer to caramelise. I also don’t use any salt in my cooking, only herbs and spices
We used to eat this when I grew up. The traditional way is adding the rice to the lentils when they are almost done, but this might be easier. And still delicious. If I remember well, the onions we put on top were crispy. I loved it and still do. Easy, delicious and healthy ❤
Thanks! I just made chicken biryani for a potluck, and after enjoying the leftovers for days, I wanted to find something healthier to keep that feeling going... I think this is perfect for that!!!
This is so delicious, I have wanted to learn to cook it forever. I would steam the rice because I literally never boil rice. It does look wonderful though.
Every Passover my parents, Jews of Spain and France, would eat rice and lentils, they are a choen and Levi and the Hasmonean kingdom that was in Jerusalem
My husband is Lebanese he liked this recipe so much he called his brother over to try it. - 1st thing they both agreed I made better then there Mom who is the best cook ever.
I am going to cook this dish, i have dried onions from the store to use but i don't know how to use first time. Do i have to use ir as a garnish at the end. Thanks😊
The lentil cooked water has the protein. Don’t throw it. South of India they make lentil and rice with different spices in one pot. It is called Pongal. They also make version with vegetables called Kichidi. Also in one pot
Love that you're using metric measurements in your recipes for most of the ingredients. This cups nonsense confuses me. When you say 3 cups of water, that's ,750 ml, right (for the 100g of rice)?
Soak the brown lentils for 8 hrs then strain the water & add it to your raw rice with a very small peeled & finely chopped eggplant, measured water, add your caramelized, & spiced onions & salt & cook all together.
Great but Mujadarah is not made in all the countries in the Middle East. It is very popular dish in Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. Please note that Basmati rice is not suitable for this dish. Besides, The right way to pronounce Humus is "Hummos", an Arabic word that means Garbanzo Beans.
Great Lebanese dish.! I discovered Mujadara in Lebanon about 9 yrs ago during my Erasmus year in that gorgeous country that is being presently bombed and destroyed by the Israelis. I just love Lebanese food and we’re so lucky that we have fantastic Lebanese restaurants in Oslo.
My client is Lebanese and made me this for lunch!! Love how nearly every culture has a rendition of legumes and rice ( vegetarian)

Oooo I LOVE lentils and rice….well just about any beans and rice, food of the gods. ❤ Thanks for the great recipe!
You are very welcome, so happy you like the recipe ☀️☀️
It's the onions that make this dish so good. Good hot or cold in my opinion.

My husband is Lebanese he liked this recipe so much he called his brother over to try it. - 1st thing they both agreed I made better then there Mom who is the best cook ever.
Easy! 😀
We make this dish in Iran. Famous national dish called Adas polo, meaning rice lentils.
delishhhh!!! yummmm🤗
You are an amazing cook Nico! Delicioso!👌🏼easy the way you do it!👍🏼
I make something similar as a one-pot dish in my instant pot.

Can this be achieved with a Rice Cooker?
Amazing.❤❤❤ could you tell us the measurement for the lentill and rice. Thanks😋
In the description ☀️
Looks delicious, I tried your vege chili, was very good , are you completely vegan?

I am from the Middle East, we just add salt, no spices.
Try kefir with chopped cucumber, salt and dried mint with it.
Yes this is certainly an “aromatic” interpretation, thanks so much for your comment and serving suggestion 🙏❤️
Subscribe done ❤ sir
Add salt to lentils only after they have soften, otherwise the lentils will take longer to soften.
The rice need steam cooking at list 10 minutes after boiling it 🤷🏼♀️

What makes basmati rice wrong for this?
@@tgeliot Long grain rice is more suitable because Basmati rice has a strong taste that will cover the taste of the lentil with onions and olive oil.
@georgebaddour Thanks. I do like the flavor of basmati, but I can see (taste?) how it could interfere with other flavors.
I love food and enjoy watching food content 😊 small TH-camrs like me let’s connect here
Patrick Mahomes has ruined a generation of men’s hair. But the dish looks legit.
Great Lebanese dish.!

Sounds fantastic, what an experience that must have been. We have family in Oslo ❤️❤️❤️ Brunost-love!
Awesome! Where are you from originally? I often prefer vegetarian food.
