I think it’s both interesting and funny that Sandra Oh who voices Namaari’s mother in Raya, wounds up voicing Ming Lee (Mei Mei’s mother) in Pixar’s _Turning Red_ the following year, so she’s appeared in two films from Disney’s primary animated divisions: _Raya and the Last Dragon_ (Disney Animation Studios) and _Turning Red_ (Pixar)
Although Raya's goal on finding Sisu, and finding the rest of the missing Gem pieces to repair the Dragon Gem and restore everyone turned to stone from the Druun including her Father, was brave and noble of her, this is where her positives end because throughout the film she still had issues on trusting others, now granted I don't blame Raya for being cold and distant following the incident when she was 12 years old and trusted Namaari until she backstabbed her after she showed her the location of the Dragon Gem causing the rest of Fang and the other tribes to arrive and fight over it leading to the Druun reawakening and causing her father to turn to stone, hence her hesitation on trusting others. Also, it's not Only Namaari Raya had trust issues, she also had skepticism and hesitation on trusting anyone throughout the film especially when she first met Boun, Noi and her Ongis, and Tong for the first time but eventually slowly learned to trust them and have them join her group to restore the Dragon Gem Pieces, yet in some instances she still refused to grow as a person due to her being unflexible and "taking the first step" up until the climax of the film. Now here comes the scene that everyone continues to argue and debate regarding Namaari "killing" Sisu, and I'm going to be upfront both Raya and Namaari are to blame for this consequence. Namaari slightly twitching her finger on the crossbow lever didn't signify she was preparing to shoot Sisu immediately, Raya just jumped to conclusions or in this case "jumped the gun" due to her continued Distrust towards Namaari and just threw her sword causing the crossbow to release the arrow and inadvertently killing Sisu in the process, while at the same time not trusting Sisu on giving Namaari a chance when Sisu was calming her down. So literally Raya's actions in that scene alone when Sisu tried to calm Namaari down did more harm than good which is the reason why Raya's continued distrust and "jumping the gun" by throwing the sword led to this consequence, so at the end if the day, no matter whose fault it was, both Raya and Namaari were at fault for accidentally killing Sisu. Think of it as trying to attack a scared/suicidal person or an attacker holding a triggered gun/loaded weapon while the person is trying to calm them down, just interfering the situation would result in the gun/weapon to fire and also causing the person and others to get hurt or in the worst case scenario killed. It literally is frustrating and is BS that *EVERYONE* just continues to overlook that scene and continue to point fingers that Sisu's death is entirely Namaari's fault when in reality, both Raya and Namaari are to blame for this consequence, especially the former due to her trust issues and "jumping the gun" thinking that Namaari's finger twitching on the crossbow made Raya thought she was going to shoot Sisu.
I think the reason everyone had a divisive reception with this film compared to _Encanto_ which came out 8 months later all comes down with the execution of the "message" of the movie, which is Trusting others and "Taking the First Step" which the majority seem very critical on, so I don't blame the majority of you who aren't a fan of the movie's message and to an extent the story and a few of the characters. Now while this film might not be the strongest and a huge favorite film of the "Disney Revival" Era compared to the other films like _Frozen, Tangled, Moana, Zootopia_ and _Encanto,_ I still enjoy the film despite it’s problems with I think the biggest praise goes to the visuals, the soundtrack/score composed by James Newton Howard, and the vocal performances of the voice cast most particularly Awkwafina as Sisu, and Gemma Chan as Namaari, which funny enough both actresses were in the film _Crazy Rich Asians_ and Adele Lim who co-wrote Raya was the screenwriter of that film. Also Gemma was recently the voice of Natsuko in the English dub of Miyazaki _The Boy and the Heron_ from Studio Ghibli which I recommend, but be careful with the copyright. I also think that _Raya_ is perfect film for a potential world/level in a future _Kingdom Hearts_ game like _Kingdom Hearts IV_ and there are so many things that this film and _Kingdom Hearts_ have in common with each other besides the Dragon Gem and Raya being the "Princess of the land of Heart" is the theme "Trust", and throughout the film, the Tribes (Fang, Spine, Talon, Tail) distrusted one another and wanted to fight over for the Dragon Gem that the Land of Heart, and when the Dragon Gem broke this caused the return of the Druun which also greatly mirrored what happens in _χ_ and especially _Union χ_ when the Foretellers and the Dandelion Leaders (Ephemer, Skuld, Brain, Lauriam and Ventus) had distrust with one another leading to a catastrophic event: For χ, the Keyblade War and for Union χ, it's the Darknesses appearing and the destruction of the data Daybreak Town, which mirrors the Druun's return in Raya. In addition, Sora using the Power of Waking to revive his friends and later Kairi until he disappears for abusing that power in _Kingdom Hearts III_ mirrors what Sisu did when she used the power of the Dragon Gem from her siblings to vanquish the Druun and revive everyone (except the Dragons) but caused her to disappear. So thank you so much for reacting to _Raya and the Last Dragon._ 🐉🐲
3:15 Fun Fact: The reason why Disney always kills off parents and family members is because Walt Disney was working through some of his own trauma around the death of his mother, a death that he felt responsible for.
Drgaon is associated with water in southeast asian culture, as my self Indonesian, we have a legend about water Springs that appear after the death of a dragon. The part of body of dragon was sparated and burried in different places. And now appear springs in that part of the dragon. The one that near from my house is the head of the dragon itself
The fact that raya is blaming Namarri for everything. It was raya’s fault for showing namarri the gem in the first place. So it’s technically raya’s fault that the world is broken.
🇵🇭 When people watch or watched Moana, it's somehow or somewhat clear for most people, even for non-Polynesians, that it was based or inspired, loosely or not, from Polynesian peoples and their cultures, or even as generally Pacific Islander or Oceanian, and the same thing goes with Coco as Mexican or at least generally Mesoamerican or Central American, Hispanic (Latin) American or Latin American, and with Encanto as Colombian or generally South American, Hispanic (Latin) American or Latin American, while on the other hand, Raya and the Last Dragon, for me, failed to introduce or newly introduce itself, especially to non-Asians, as a movie loosely based or inspired from us Southeast Asian peoples and our cultures, or even as generally Far Eastern or Far East Asian, or even mistakenly or erroneously as East or Eastern Asian with China and all of east of China or as South or Southern Asian with India and all of surrounding closely to India, or even more generally as Asian or Asia-Pacific, and that's coming from me, a Filipino and Southeast Asian from the Philippines in or within Southeast Asia. Personally, I still like this movie, but I don't love it with the same love I have for Moana, Coco and Encanto, among other new, newer or recent Walt Disney Animated Studios or Pixar Animated Studios and Walt Disney Pictures animated movies, even if I am a Southeast Asian myself, with this movie supposed to be loosely based or inspired from us Southeast Asians and our cultures. There are a lot of minor things I like and few to some minor things I love about this movie, which are its pros, and somehow or somewhat, these pros still outweigh its cons for me, making me still like this movie.
Whyyy aren't we considering that Raya's dad just happened to be on the bridge because it's symbolic that they meet where they were separated. Like, he's cleaning something up from there, it doesn't mean that he stood there all this time it took everyone to recover and travel? For all of this movie's faults, this is a weird nitpick I feel like x)
I liked the world building and settings. The characters were okay, but I feel like the if the theme could’ve been handled better, and wasn’t shoved down our throats, it could’ve been better. It’s like Disney had the pieces, but didn’t know how to put together as a story.
There are movies that I initially liked on the first watch, but after seeing them again I dislike them more and more. Raya and The Blue Annoyance is one of them.
as South East Asian I really hate this movie, it's feel like shallow throw it all SEAn culture and branding it as representation of Southeast Asian. They don't even cast SEAn voice actor Disney should just pick one country from SEA and then start from there make a story base on that specific SEAn country for better representation.
For the Pacing, at least for *ME,* It's a bit on the Contrary, in the sense that I found the "Fastest" Parts at the Beginning and at the End, but I think It depends on the fact that at least in part This is Subjective, but then I _Really_ Love the Emotional Moments (which are More present precisely where I found the Movie Most Compelling, "coincidentally"), so... in any case, I find It to be a Masterpiece at least in Animation, and I Madly Love this Movie in Literally *_EVERYTHING,_* and in fact It's One of My Favourite Movies *EVER* (Very Unpopularly speaking like Literally Ever, Animated Movies, 90%/95% of the Time, Excite Me Much More than Live Action Movies, Especially if We talk about Official Disney Classics and Pixar Movies, and Especially, even more, if Recents)!!! I Seriously find *_EVERYTHING_* Magnificent, Especially: Characters, Colours, Atmosphere, Messages, Themes, Animation, Emotional Level, Setting and Music!!! 😍💜🫂 So, for Me... 5🌟/5🌟
When I first saw this movie, I didn’t like it because it didn’t feel like a Disney princess film because Raya didn’t sing a song but after while it’s alright, it’s not best Disney film but it’s a nice change up but Raya is pretty cool and Aquafina never disappoints in a role
To be fair, Merida is (weirdly) a Disney princess and her film isn't a musical. While I do wish Raya was a musical, I'm glad that didn't keep her from becoming a DP.
Definitely wish this movie was a musical (the reason it wasn't was kinda ignorant), as well as each land being a clearly defined SEA country. Not to mention, it hurt that Namaari never considered she did anything wrong to Raya yet Raya felt guilt over Sisu.
Disney did a terrible job in representing SouthEast Asia, despite us having close ties together, it's still not a good idea to shove all of our cultures together into one movie. also, the Philippines is literally known as the land of singers, why did they not make this into a musical? everything about this movie was just a waste, and I feel sorry to those who worked hard on it

@@OpticalSorcerer well Merida is a Pixar character so it made sense for her not to have a song
@@Minidollcollector It's not a hard rule that Pixar can't make musicals; they're making one right now!
The problem with the film is that the story would have been better developed in a Series.
