I stopped watching channels that have unboxings after unboxings or tons of hauls and state they have no use or purpose for the planners. I want to see people using the planners like you said. I have also stopped watching people who planner hop all every couple of days or weeks because those are the videos that trigger me. And I’m glad that you decluttered. I don’t think people realize that a lot of kids don’t want all the things that their parents or grandparents keep. It adds clutter to their lives. Something that they will have to go through and determine what they want ontop of their own clutter. I think they would much enjoy the memories and time you spent like you mentioned.

Same, I get those videos in my feed, but I don't watch any. Only my favourite people's haul. Also, I am frugal and take pride in it. I do share planner videos on my own TH-cam but never for promoting consumerism.

I watch your channel because you're NOT very aesthetic. You obviously have some pretty things like we all do, but, like you, I enjoy planner videos where I might find some functional idea I can use more than another decoration I can buy. There's no end to the things we can buy, but USEFUL information or creative ideas are harder to come by. I'm glad you're here. 😊

4 mins in, and I'm screaming yes!!! You're speaking raw but much-needed to hear truth!!! I'll finish my comment when I'm done watching! ❤
Okay, I did post an update comment. Idk what youtube did to it, but Beverly, you've nailed it! Nothing you said was far from the truth. It's the sad reality of the planner community. I myself am having a heart to heart and letting go of all the unnecessary things. Consumerism is beyond me now, and I'm so exhausted and tired of all the pre-sales, launches, or TMR notebooks and planners being pushed. It's truly exhausting. 100% Love the raw and unfiltered sit-down conversation you had with us in this video. I believe that if those who hate you for this or unfollow you are just afraid to admit the truth with themselves. Thank you for all that was said. ❤️

I have to say I applaud you. I applaud everything that you are saying and I agree with it 100%. I have stopped following some creators because of this especially planner hoppers. I don’t care what people do with their planners. I really don’t but the inconsistency gets to me and maybe it’s just me. I don’t know. I follow people that actually plan. People who actually use their planners. I like the cuteness sometimes, but in reality, my planner is a tool and I enjoy people that use theirs the same way. That’s my two cents, but bravo! This is an awesome video.

I think there are more people out there like ne who were looking for this approach. Most of us are planning on a Dollar Tree budget but made to feel that every sticker, washi tape, planner, or cover needs to be name brand or from a small shop. I wish someone would do a Dollar Tree and/or shop your stash (or something similar) planner/journal channel. Well, thanks again. Thank you for giving me and my brain the reminder that I have permission to be exactly who I am even though I am not aesthetic and I don’t fit in that box it’s really refreshing to know that I am not the only one feeling this way and thank you for bringing this up and being so honest and raw this is just another of the 1 million reasons. I feel the same way you do about so many things! As much as I love decorated planners and stickers, it is not a style I can recreate, and comparison is the thief of joy! One of the reasons why I like your content is because it is attainable and functional! I do not memory keep or journal in my planners. I want my planner to be useful and simple, so I am using a blank notebook, which will get tossed eventually, so I don't spend time decorating it, and I don't use stickers unless they were freebies or super inexpensive. I use a personal rings for the content I will actually keep and look back on (reading log, walking log, prescription list, household projects, etc.) This is the one I decorate. I watch the other channels just to get ideas, but they don't cause me to spend because I love to use what I have and learn how to make my own dashboards, tabs, etc. I think a lot of us follow your content because it is real and relatable, just like you! Keep it up!

You belong here. I was rocked back by peoples reaction to the Hobonichi launch (website crashes and carts being emptied). The way people were going on about a bound planner you would think the world was ending, it gave me the ick. I am also going to get rid of a bunch of washi tape and I have many planner covers that I will try to sell or just donate.
I am not a ring bound planner person, but I like your content. I think some in the planner community are just snobs and that is unfortunate. I don’t relate to people that have so many planners for different things because I cannot relate to any of that.

And I’ve had very similar thoughts as you, and I’ve talked about them with mixed feedback. 😅 Social media can be very good, but it can also make us very self conscious. It also drags me away from a perfectly good system when I see a shiny package and I assume it’s being well loved and want that myself. But in the end, that is probably a fleeting moment in that planner’s life as well. I’m settled in my system and keeping my straying eyes to myself. You sound like you are in a good place!

A long time ago I decided to put myself out there on the Internet for me & not for others. I would blog for myself. If someone wanted or needed my content it is there. I look at TH-cam & Instagram the same way. And there are times that I can't put myself out there and people have to accept that. Being on social media is not my job it is a hobby. People get what I give & that's it.
I travel the rollercoaster of FOMO also, some days it's worse & others are better. I'm going to do a huge decluttering project. Lots of planner stuff to re-home.
I remember the days of pre Hobonichi. I was a planner person before & I've tried several styles & books over the years. Our needs change so what worked for me in 2014 doesn't work now.

I really do agree with this! While, on the one hand, I believe that some things are meant to be handed down or out through the family, including maybe a personal letter or 2, or one or 2 personal diaries or journals...and documents about family history...and land property (yes, property so that other family members will always have a place to live if needed), I DO believe that much of what we THINK is important to hold onto...really isn't. And it's perfectly ok to let go of what doesn't serve you or your family.
Also, some people think on more practical and functional terms when organising their space and planners, others absolutely MUST have pretty. I like pretty, but like you, I will 100% choose something that makes things more functional and easier for me over something pretty every single time. Howevet; since I like pretty and since I feel like too functional looks boring, If I can make my functional stuff look a little aesthetic and et both pretty and fractional out of the same item, that's lije hitting the jackpot got me. This goes for evety soace on my home, not just my planners. I learned this about myself when I discovered Cas Arsson, The Clutter Bug. she teaches that there is no one way to organise for everyone. She explains how to figure out your own organisationsl style. And you can do that with your home AND for all of your office tools; such as figuring out your planning style.
Never ever EVER apologize for knowing yourself well enough to know and stick with what works for you and what doesn't. Someone else out there is struggling to figure out their best planning and de-cluttering style, and tgey may find that something in tge way YOU use and irganise and de-cluttwr YOUR planners, is just what THEY need

I’m all for the white out and crossing out. My planner is for function - it can still look pretty-ish but never gonna be perfect. But can’t get behind the colored pens 😂 I generally grab whatever pen is near by…as long as it’s black. The colored writing distracts me and clutters the page and I can’t see past it so it’s too much.
I’m a multi planner person because I can’t have everything in one. Work has to be separate - it stays at work. And now that I’ve opened my shop I have to have that separate from my main planner - partly because it wouldn’t necessarily all fit but also because it gets cluttered and then I can’t see thru the weeds. Totally get not wanting to see multiple planners and huge stacks but some have reasons for compartmentalization. 🤷🏻‍♀️

So many people have admitted that a lot of those very aesthetic perfect planners are for social media only. Some have those kind of planners and are still functional, but in my opinion a “normal” person with a typical busy life with kids and a job etc have a messy used planner. Which to me is beautiful! I LOVE a well loved/used functional planner. I’m also sick to death of fomo. I’m so over comparing myself and switching my system and over buying because I’m trying to be like so and so. I’m done with that. The last six months I’ve stayed in my old system that I used before social media got to me and I’ve been so happy and productive. Love what you had to say here. I also don’t save all my old journals and planners. I do some once in awhile, but usually I throw them away after awhile. I love a good purge lol. Anyway great conversation. ❤️👍🏻

Everything you said I feel every day. It’s just so hard to hop off the merry go round, but I’m trying. Hearing that I’m not alone makes me so happy. I’m coming back to this video every time I start to take a step back.

I love everything you said in this video. Queen Victoria had her journals and letters burned when she died and listening to you made me remember hearing that for the first time. Legacy isn’t something others choose for you. You choose for yourself. You are also modeling decluttering what doesn’t serve you and that is wonderful. ❤

I occasionally go through my insta and do the same thing. It’s too easy to get caught up in the fomo and I end up buying things I don’t even need. I love your planner because it’s actually a used planner and not just deco. I got so burnt out on my rings because of all the deco and put it up for a while. I’ll bring it back out in a bit. I’ve been decluttering everything and it feels so good.

Thank you! I loved this so much and I think there are so many people that should hear this and would benefit greatly, as I did. So thank you for being real and bold enough to share hard stuff (in a polite and respectful way).

And... BREATHE! 😂😂 If you feel you can't compete or can't keep up with the trends, then they're just not for you. Find your own!
    Real is good 😊.
I often wonder if those with massively decorated stickered and washi'd planners on their channels have a plain and messy functional one they actually USE in the background.
I tried deliberately using different pens, deliberately making things random. Lasted two weeks. It was akin to using loads of different colours - total overload - but it helped me find my style, and now I select one of my Vintage Sarasa pens (blue-gray is current favourite), a toning highlighter (tombo or mildliner) and stick with them for a month or two.
Instead of washi I put down a swipe of highlighter and doodle a simple design over the top of it - and it doesn't bulk up the pages.
    👍👍👍👍

I recently found you! I don’t watch hauls or unboxings. I like you and the recently found My Moxie Dreams. I hope to find more real planners as I continue to do my messy planning

I love this video! I have been following you for a bit and love your videos. I totally am where you are and this was SO encouraging. I am SO influenced to buy by some that I follow. I have always been a planner and journaler but have never spent as much money as I have in the past few years on this hobby. I too am decluttering and streamlining this thing that I do. Thank you for this awesome video! Love love love it!

Bravo, Hot Mess Sis. This is a long time coming. I hear you on a lot of this. LOL "pen ho" - I have shied away from sharing my planner for I don't use it that fancy way that you spoke of. I so get the 5 million planners that some will use when I ask why? I want to declutter on IG too. I want to start with the hashtags. Thanks for sharing all your feeling about this. it makes scene and this should be more on the norm of the planner world. You made great sense also about what to use and what to get rid of. I think that is why I don't have a lot of washi tape just do to seeing how much a lot some have. Yikes. I was proud of myself I didn't jump on hobonichi train. oh, and there were things I wanted. yet I am fine, and I realized that I really didn't need it to "have" it. Keep up doing you, Boo 💛

THANK YOU so much for saying all of this! I have had all of those feelings and that's why I haven't shared much of my current planner on my IG account. I think I am going to start posting more regularly in 2025 -- even the messy stuff. :)

I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I‘m following you not because of the decorated stuff. I‘m not this kind of gal either. I love your channel because you‘re living a real, raw and honest planner life. I love planner content but I stopped following the ones who just decorate as well. You gave me so much inspo over things I never thought of . So please let us be part of your honest planner style because I absolutely love it the way it is.

So with you on this - no haul videos for me either - they trigger me on many levels and feel like a display of greed to me - no multitude of planners for multiple subjects - I can’t!
I have zero interest in someone’s schedule for you tube content and I certainly don’t need to watch someone telling me how to put stickers on a page! - I stopped following a lot of channels, because I realized they gave me planner anxiety and I don’t need that
As part of my new year’s ritual - i sit and flip through my journal / planner(s) - rip out a few special pages and then I build a fire in the fire pit and burn them - it is a very freeing act and so symbolic of a fresh start going into the next year
IMO - think it is selfish to keep shelves of journals for future generations - really don’t think my children want to be burdened with tons of paper and documents of my thoughts & schedules of their mom
I have one small journal for each of my kids to record special/funny moments and and I write some personal notes to them throughout the years - it is about them and my love for them, not a re-enactment of my life. That is what I will leave for them.

Ms Bev (can I call you Bev?) you oughta start this as a series for new (and old) planner people.
as someone recovering from planner fomo and finally finding my groove and system, your videos are very helpful

You can call me Bev 😆😆 Idk what the series would be (I’m trying to figure that out) but I am going to try to do more of this. I will also be doing monthly follow ups. FOMO is so hard!!! We want all the pretty things 🤩🤩🤩

You definitely have a place on the internet. This is exactly the type of content I want, and I don't think there's enough of it. I can feel less-than so quickly, that I don't need to be exposed to that. It's crazy how people on the internet feel they have the right to tell you what is wrong with your life. Your life is yours. 🤗

I resonate with all of this. I've always been more journaler than planner, but I found myself swept up in all the planner "stuff". I don't purchase a lot but I'm just tired of the consumerism. I don't like tomoe river paper or A5 notebooks and ended up buying a hobonichi cousin this year because it looked perfect in videos... not perfect for me. I'm back to pasting monthly pages into composition books because it works for me.

Of course it is up to you if you want to throw away your planners. But saying that you are ok with stealing art? And yes, printing something off the internet without explicit permission of the artist is stealing. It doesn’t matter if it is “personal use” or not.

Not that it matters, but I can get onboard with some of this, but still can’t help feeling there is a hormonal issue, mental breakdown or midlife crisis going on here. lol Can you just work on that handwriting enough so people can read it?😂
