I’m planning on buying one of these guitars, but that’s besides the point. I wanted to tell you that I thought your original song was pretty GREAT. Whenever I see someone your age writing their own songs, I remember myself doing the same thing at that age. No idea what your plans are as far as music is concerned, but always keep in mind that if you have the talent (which apparently you do), perseverance, and knock on doors and more doors closing on your face until THE ONE opens up, good things can come to you professionally down the line. Write a crapload of songs and forget if they’re good or bad. Sooner or later, most will be good. But you do need to get the bad ones out, too. Your original song has a late 90s-singer/songwriter vibe to it, and since EVERYTHING hinges on nostalgia, you just never know. That’s been already about 25 years since those times. Mix that with your obvious love for Dylan, and you have an interesting mix. Anyways, enough writing. Best of luck!
Thank you so much for your powerful words. I will keep writing songs. It's funny that I have an idea of what I want my songs to be but they end up different from what I expected, yet I like the unexpected result. I will never stop my passions.
Came across this video kind of randomly. Props to you brother for not being embarrassed about your changes about getting older. Just like your Martin guitar……refinement with age!
Hello friend, thanks for your comment and that's a good point about the guitar being refined with age. We have to be able to show the changes in us, and the changes in the guitar, to get the full picture. It sure is crazy for me to look back at these videos now. Thanks for watching!
My Dad just acquired this guitar for free from a friend of his who never got around to learning guitar and is giving it to me ;-; Fantastic playing and review my friend
As a non-professional, I'm guessing three-fourths of guitarists across the country would get more enjoyment from the LX1 than from the giant instruments they are now struggling with.
Traded it for a Taylor GS Mini. The LX1 is a nicely-proportioned travel guitar, very well made. Holds its tuning very well (that rock-solid laminated neck sure helps). Picking notes gives you quite a clear if a bit boxy response. But as soon as you start strumming, the lows overwhelm the highs, a problem that is significantly worse if you use your fingers. However you strum, it's both boomy and boxy at the same time.
@@mrmylo1239 exactly. Taylor markets it as easily adjustable. But who wants a neck that needs so much adjusting in the first place. As far as bolt-on necks go, Taylor is among the flimsiest… get a good. Guitar with a solidly built neck, take care of it & there’ll be little to no need to deal with adjusting (& the zillions of other problems that come with that).
I have many guitars and the LX1 is my favorite. Perfect size, good sound, highly playable for my smallish hands. I wish there were a gorgeous hand-crafted solid-wood version, but until then, this is what I pick up day in and day out. Caution: The factory setup is garbage.
Martin is my favorite accoustic brand . I own a baby Taylor which Im guessing would sound more bright sounding compared to the LX Martin. I dont own Lx Martin yet . Planning on getting one as they very compact in size with a big sound .
LX1 is no beauty, but the overall package is perfect for us armchair pickers, much better than most "parlors." Handy size, narrow nut-width (1-11/16"), and a full 14 frets. Good intonation and acoustic sound. Plus it's bulletproof. I pick it up constantly while my high-end instruments stay in their cases.
Very nice job, young man! 👏🏻 Very comprehensive review, especially for what I was looking for. I wanted to hear how it sounded when accompanying your own singing. Is your a model with the pick up, or were singing just with the microphone? Thank you,
@@DannyRoss_ Thank you for your comment. I acknowledge that it is expensive. while it works as a beginner guitar, players might want to make sure they like playing guitar before purchasing it.
@@DannyRoss_ I just checked out Reverb, I saw some LX1s that were less expensive. I actually love used gear, you get a good chance to get good stuff for cheaper. My first real electric guitar was a beautiful used 90s fender Strat.
I'll do a video on this guitar again soon, but I do not do much with my Martin other than avoiding negative treatment of it. I keep it dry, in tune, in normal temperatures, I remove dust, and I change the strings every few years.
My wife has a new LX1. I have a Taylor GS Mini mahogany which is larger and a bit richer tone with Martin Retro strings. The LX1 has a better neck, wider than the Taylor which is the flaw with the GS mini.
I have never played the GS Mini but I've heard that it is good as well. I think neck size is preference. The thick neck on the LX1 gives it a feeling of higher quality, but I also like the neck is my SG, which is extremely thin.
I cannot say, I have never used the GS mini. I don't actually know if I truly played a Taylor. I do know that the LX1 is very good. The GS mini has a similar description as the Martin LX1, meaning it must also be good. However, it is more expensive.
I have not actually experienced this issue, though it is very light. I have noticed that the neck does feel heavy compared to the body, but it doesn't fall.

Thanks for the review. but please, change your strings. You may got used to the sound but there is a lot more if you invest into some new strings every now and then!

@@CalidoreRobinson No problem man! Keep grinding and stay humble! You seem like a good kid. Just a heads up for when you want to change the strings(if you haven’t), your LX1 comes with the Martin Lifespan 2.0 light gauge strings.
I might be late on this, but: Not changing the strings in 4 years? Very bad choice. Might not be the most expensive guitar, but I can promise you, your frets are dying a painful death. I didn't change the strings on my Gibson Lp for half a year when I was a beginner and I can still see how flat the frets are compared to my newer but more played guitar. Not AS bad if you have high nylon strings, but still basically guitar war crimes.
That is an issue. It is hard to play at times, especially on the upper frets. You cannot bend the strings. However, this does not interfere with most songs.
@@mrmylo1239 I have done nothing to this guitar since I got it years ago! I was planning on bringing it in to change the strings. You might want to ask to have the action lowered to experiment. You could also put electric guitar strings on, though I have never tested that on a Martin.
They are garbage. It’s 100% laminate, even the neck is laminated. There was no effort involved, no craftsmanship. There is no real wood on this guitar…. And it sounds it. Don’t waist your time or money. Get a Taylor GS mini. At least they have a full wood top. And they sound and play amazing. This is a $100 guitar they are selling for $400.
