I'm a taper of over 10 years. I own an angle box, mud runner, and columbia 42" tube. 3.5 head. Other tapes I know dont agree. But the tube is the least effort imo. And the fastest with a skilled operator. Mudrunner on 9' horizontal with no stilts is hard on the wrist I find. Angle box can suck it. That thing is horrible. And I have done miles with all 3 methods. The least effort is pumping the angles with an applicator and wiping with your head on a pole. But that's an extra step. Many people around here us that method. Sometimes it's not always about speed. Angels as with most taping at the end of the day are all about the sanding.
I tape roll and glaze with a level 5 2 1/2 angle head, then I pull out the mudrunner and finish with a drywall master 3 1/2 angle head. When I tape a house I can't wait to finish the angles. Every job I do it just gets faster. If I had to choose mudrunner or flat box, mudrunner wins every time. The thing is badass. I'm short so I wear 18 stilts and I can run the stand ups and 10 ft ceilings like Flash Gordon. The angle box would make my back burn from pulling up the stand ups plus I had a hard time running 8 ft lids. But the angle box was able to help me make more money to buy the mudrunner. Love it...
Spent the money on a mudrunner now thinking about changing it in for a mud shot that being said the mudrunner paid for itself on the first job. I use a 4 inch angle head keeps me from going back and having to stoke off all the angles
i use Tape Tech 3.5 inch angle head with tiny wheels on it, and i put this angle head on the 42' Can am compound tube, and it does same job as muddunner and tube is wa cheaper
I find a application tube is superior to both of these, it runs easy and you have controls over the amount applied so there’s no going back over it like in this video. It’s cheaper and you just fill it like a syringe direct from the bucket. I can’t understand why anyone would use a mud runner tbh
First off the trick is eating 5lbs of bacon in the morning, energy drinks all the way to work so you can maintain 420lbs. This gives you enough weight to lean into the angle box to get the mud to push out.
Agreed on the corner box, to much exercise for me, I grab a pan and a six and start coating. Looks like you're getting a lot of footage out of that mudrunner, never bought one, figured it would be the same workout.
If I was a full time finisher, I would have all the production tools you have. The time savings alone makes it with the investment. I'm a remodeler, and most of the time I'm only doing a room or 2 and even, then I'm usually blending in to the old drywall in a lot of areas. I'm a carpenter first, and a drywall guy when necessary. But, from watching pros like you, live and now on TH-cam and lots of practice I've become a very good finisher, albeit slower.
I have recently bought a mudrunner. A big reason is because of this video. I am a bit nervous about using it because i havent used one. I was wondering if their is much work in getting the blades set up or are the glazing heads good to go straight from the box? I have looked around for vidoes on this and there isnt any videos around showing the blades being adjusted. Also do you need to glaze over your first coat with a smaller glazing head after taping? Because i am only blading down with a 3 inch after i tape in my internals. Any information on this is will be extremely helpful. Thank you for such a usful comparison it made the purchase of the mudrunner a lot easier
kahu vincent i used it for the first time 2 days ago and it was great to use. I need more time using it to get quicker with it. But i did notice i was using quite a lot of mud, thats why i am curious about needing to use say a 2 inch glazing head when taping in. I will get to see what it looks like dry tomorrow, shrinkage and cracking are my concerns
yep def 2 inch head first then 3inch fini coat we use a 90min tapein mud like durabond so little to no shrinkage and very strong so you have to go like crazy to get all the corners done in a house and sorry i ment to say DONT* submerge handle in water and ul b ok
kahu vincent thanks for the help, i will be using a glazing head when taping in next time and see how that looks. The internals look good without using a 2 inch, but it has bren a lot of work trying to get rid of the pock. Because of all the filling the final coat is doing
Ray, I’m totally convinced that I deserve the mudrunner at my age the angle box is a total waste of precious energy I can spend somewhere else. I’m checking out the Dewalt mudshot no twisting and more capacity about same price. I’m pretty sure I understand why my father delegated that job to me ha. Thanks so much for your info you sir are the FINISHER. Also your comment on religion and spirituality really hit home great insight
Did some home working the mudshot has help with 80lbs of air / gas pressure provided thru the handle I would like to try one first before investing I don’t see that happening guess you have 90 days to return right I don’t have a job to warrant the purchase plus I would prefer not twisting the grip?
Great video. You have a new sub!!! I love plastering/stucco and enjoy doing interior finish. Unfortunately around my area in California, the work is not very well paid. The labor wage is really bartered down. So, I just so it part-time. Starting building up my very own set of automatic drywall taping tools and bought some waaaaay out-dated Tapeworm brand that needed way too much repair. I have used the angle tool to embed the tape and the corner glazer. They've been quite some help. But, the mud pump is broken so, I can't fill in any of the tools. And I cannot use the bazooka. :/ I figure it's not worth all the repair it needs. I bought a level 5 basic handle and the quick box that apply hot mud for starters. Next I am thinking of investing in some auto corner tools. Since those take up a lot of time. I can do butts and flats by hand, for the mean time. Where are you from?? If you don't mind me asking. Have a good day. Take care. Thanks 😊
Great video. Me and my partner need to buy some boxing tools like what you have. We've been pulling and taping corners by hand with either 45 min durabond and/or normal mud. Sometimes some Dawn detergent for tough sanding jobs. We do turn-key remodeling, a little bit of everything. Any suggestions for boxing tools to make our lives easier?

Ok,you convinced me,I'm really getting tired from the box, specially in 9 ft ceilings. Thanks for this video

What do you mean “stroke off all the angles”?
very good, I have mudrunner have not used in years , can't get mud to come out when twist handle
Doctor have you use a compound tub, if so your thoughts.
Really want mud runner but for price don't know if I can
i use Tape Tech 3.5 inch angle head with tiny wheels on it, and i put this angle head on the 42' Can am compound tube, and it does same job as muddunner and tube is wa cheaper
I'm guessing you have some challenges getting a 42 foot tube in SOME closets, eh?
@@palewriter1856lol... 😂
@@nbco55 Hear tell they don't make tapers like they used to? I know that for me, personally -- the older I get - the better I was!
@@paulbasra4108 .... I always hated closets. Nothing worse than a tiny room that requires all the same work as a large room. :-)
So do you run angles after skim coat ? Or after first coat ?
When I run the angle box or mudrunner that is the skim coat
Dear Doc. I have a question for the professionnel, what size to the angle do u use at the first when u apply ? More smaller 2,5"- 5cm is better.
I find a application tube is superior to both of these, it runs easy and you have controls over the amount applied so there’s no going back over it like in this video. It’s cheaper and you just fill it like a syringe direct from the bucket.
I can’t understand why anyone would use a mud runner tbh
what's an application tube?
Compound tube. Google it. Everybody makes them now.
First off the trick is eating 5lbs of bacon in the morning, energy drinks all the way to work so you can maintain 420lbs. This gives you enough weight to lean into the angle box to get the mud to push out.
👍 Which size of angle head do u use for the first coat ?
Hi,
You have been a great help for an upcoming person in the trade.
One question: How do I get the mud runner?
About 800 you can get 1 on allwall. I have found on ebay new style for less then 600 plus warranty. Good luck
How to get the things? Very easy
How often do you have to change the blades in the angle head, and do the blades have to be worked in?
Drywall Dave They are carbide blades, they may chip or crack from misuse, but will never wear out
Agreed on the corner box, to much exercise for me, I grab a pan and a six and start coating. Looks like you're getting a lot of footage out of that mudrunner, never bought one, figured it would be the same workout.
Only the first couple of jobs it will, but it's so fast once you get it. I simply can't believe that every footage finisher isn't using 1 of these.
Good videos man keep em coming your the man!

You got me sold on the mudrunner.
I like to use my mud runner with some of the applicator heads too.

Do you use a glazing head for taping in?
keep the mud thinned down, submerge handle in water and ul b ok

I think the Mudshot from DeWalt might actually run like the angle box but I'm not sure the mudrunner would run easier I think
Did some home working the mudshot has help with 80lbs of air / gas pressure provided thru the handle I would like to try one first before investing I don’t see that happening guess you have 90 days to return right I don’t have a job to warrant the purchase plus I would prefer not twisting the grip?
Great information keep the video's coming. I just ordered a Drywall Master flat box set so wish me luck👍
Jack Hartman have you mastered the flat box. I remember feeling like I waisted all that money. Lol. No going back now.

Cool. No problem. It's a pleasure to learn more.
Mid runner looks like it leaves to much mud, never used one though .
The Drywall Doctor always used the angle box myself ; the mudrunner looks pretty easy to run however
If it leaves too much muds to wet.

Where can I get the mud runner ? I live in Vancouver.
All wall.com
I love taping
You MUST mean that you love WATCHING videos of OTHER PEOPLE taping. OBVIOUSLY you've never actually tried it yourself!!!! tisk tisk tisk
Good Job
Doctor gracias😄😎👍.
That wasn't me farting, that was the tool!!!! 🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
Yeah, sure. No talk sheep -- him liar.
I used to be a taper and I hated the angle box
German Arita why?
谢谢
Mudrunner huh, can't believe it's the same price of a bazooka at $900!!! Awesome tool tho.
