So you insist that mechanical pencils are for mechanical subject matter but didn’t feel compelled to change to mechanical pencils it’s almost like any tool your competent with is suitable for all tasks. Mechanical pencils are much much more suited for making extremely liihet whispy easily erasable lines when doing construction. And it dramatically empowers your ability to to keep consistent shading over an area without smugging anything. You don’t need a 2B to get nice shadows, personally I see it as the opposites 2B or 4b forces me lay down an intensity of shading that I prefer to hatch into. Just really didn’t recieve your dig on mechanical pencils for life drawing like it’s a fact when unless you have a heavy duty electric pencil sharpener you have to constantly rotate your wood pencils to retain the sharpness of line. I love doing it but it does absolutely slow me down and there are absolutely effects I cannot do with a wood pencil that isn’t an H but Hs gouge the paper. Wish you wouldn’t speak factually about things that are preferences.
Started drawing while watching the video. Never tried this method of just drawing a silhouette before, but holy shit it's cool and fun. It really helps with pushing your imagination and unstucks your mind from old design. Thanks!
i tried drawing along and OH. MY GOODNESS??? Robots are like, more edgy versions of organic creature designs but you also have to worry about hinges and wether a person is in it or not - so much to consider!! very excited to learn more
My daughter adores the construction equipment too. I think everyone does if life doesn’t teach you it’s not cool to enjoy the simple things. One of the biggest thing I try to keep alive with my kid. I want her to be excited about all the critters, all the vehicles, all the everything! Thanks for the video!
THis earlier phase of development for characters and creatures is one of my favorite, but sadly so many people have phased this out. Everyone seems to only think about the super sexy, polished, clean, mega rendered work, which sure you want that in your portfolio to wow and impress possible employers, but the ideation side I think is equally as significant.
Now THIS is awesome, robots are a lot of fun to draw. My favorite inspiration is to buy a model (a car, train, motorcycle, plane, robot etc) and sketch as I build. You'd be surprised how quickly you can add some mechanical stuff to your visual library.
I saw the warm-up Short creating machines and robotic looking blobs and did it last night, I was really cooking by the end of it. I'm going to try this lesson this weekend
loved this. i got lots of enjoyment just from the thumbnails. something about the robotic theme helped my mind to dive into the little silhouettes and go wild. 14 and 15 are my picks. 15 reminds me of an office building that fell apart, then was used to make a giant robot
Well, the video literally shows you how I invent them. When I look at references for more polished sketches, I Google images for factory machinery, robots etc.
I would first figure out the larger shapes that make up the robot form. Because a robot is a collection of larger shapes brought together. Work your way into the details but don't fixate on them. For example, don't worry too much about cool looking buttons, tubes, wires etc.
Very cool and inspiring! thanks for the video! Also, you used a ballpoint pen to do the details on the robot you chose - is that interchangable with an "ultra-fine point" sharpie or is there a specific reason you chose a ballpoint pen? Thanks!
This is some SOMA nonsense. I felt so sorry for your mismatched robot imagining a copy of a human mind trapped in it. I've been doodling space ships for some solo RPGs I'm goofing with, and I really need to thank you for spending so long in the video on the silhouettes. I don't draw a lot nor am I super good at it, so I'd forgotten to spend more time brainstorming, just throwing shapes onto papier, making sense of the shapes, and then making more shapes. Not everything needs to become a finished drawing. Iterate, start over, go back, try something completely different. Thanks for the reminder.
Where the mechanical pencils since you insisted that mechanical pencils are only good for drawing mechanical things. Horrible take. Ready and waiting to prove you wrong.
@@bobbyrebholz2183 still talking trash on my side because of my oath to the kingdom of mechanical pencils. I throw my glove around thee and announce to the realm. That mechanical pencils are far superior to wood pencils. Just as nib pens are superior to dip pens. Happy to proveorganic shapes and characters are easier to draw and look better with a consistent line and point location. Unless you rotate your pencil constantly to keep from dulling the point and keep and electric sharpner. Your better off using a combination of 5 7 and 9 mm I will concede absolute black requires a colored pencil the prisms colors do not like acrylics at all so you still end up having to transfer the image for color. I get enough smug in my sketch boom from regular lead a 4b or softer turns things into mud and hatching looks better than just laying down soft pencil mud. Pick. Refrence I will draw it better with a Mechanical.
@@dorjedriftwood2731That's cool. But just so you know, wood pencils have been and will forever be superior due to their versatility. There isn't any versatility with mechanical pencils which is why they're shunned in academia drawing. There's inconsistent line thickness, lead breakage, distraction due to the actual lead mechanism, and horrible grip practices.

Wild, I just decided I wanted to draw robots and cyborgs recently and here you are with exactly what I need.
Same, I looked up how to dram mechs just a few days ago and then he posted.

*10-colour pen?!?!!*
By far the most prestigious thing you’ve showcased on this channel!

That 6 color pen is straight from the 90th. Reminds me of my early school years.
I love the “happy accidents” quote ❤
The best channel for drawing !!

Wow! You can almost tell what the mechanic is going to look like just by looking at the silhouette of it. ^^
Robot Jocks is a must revisit to watch tonight. A must from my childhood.
i've been drawn to robotic and cyberpunk art since i was a kid. mega man, battle angel alita ect.
interested to see where this goes.
This video reminded me of chroma moma because he draws mech like robots and they are cool to look at because of the clean lines on the page

Silhouettes are such a useful tool in working to bring the forms in your mind onto the page. Awesome tutorial!
Love your work, just commenting to boost engagement!
Appreciate it!
Always happy to see you posting
Just tried and i drawed a very cool cowboy version of r2d2, i love him. Thank you very much Bobby

I haven't!

Glad you enjoyed it!
Whatever if i draw more robots from drawing people, maybe i fine with it, also cool art.👍
thanks for your knowledge :)
