    This road was built by Italians during WW1. This little part of the world was the stage of little known, but some of the bloodiest battles in the war with more than 1.5 million casualties and estimated 6-900.000 dead.

      Absolutely not true as the italian army never captured this ridge during the fighting of the WW1 (the front was some 10km to the west), but were promissed this land with the London treaty and they occupied it at the end of WW1. This road was built much later in 1938.
      Another reason why is it really nice to cyle there is that only a limited amount of cars are allowed at the same time and they have to pay a fee to use the road (there is a ramp at the entrance) while cycling is free.

    Okay, 11 Km long, what is the starting and ending elevations?

    • @MSloCvideos
      @MSloCvideos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The road (ie the ramp and toll booth) starts at 1075 m and goes up to 2055 m. If you're by bike you're gonna start even lower, however.

      It is the steepest in the very start and only for a shorter stretch where you still have energy. It is still hard but not that steep for the rest of the ride. You still have to be patient and endure for the whole part though. . Nearby is the Vrsic / Triglav national Park Pass , the locals call it the Slovenian Alpe D'Huez. You can ride it from the Northern side from Kranska Gora up some 23 steep hairpins. Mind you they are cobbled in the hairpins from this side. Beware - they can be very slippery in wet conditions, especially going down. You can also go up from the southern side from Bovec. Here the tarmac is very fine (2024) and the road more accessible. I haven't gone up from Bovec but I think it would be a little easier - maybe I rememember wrong. I read that it ascends with 14% over a very long stretch. I only went down this way. Excellent bikes are to be hired in both Kranska Gora and Bovec, both mountainbikes, roadracers and electrified

    I am poor descender with no experience in alpine roads, but I didn't found this road dangerous.

    • @tomnix8194
      @tomnix8194 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am also a bad descender and had no troubles, but if you look on the upper part beside.....there are only some bricks and on a Bike you could easily go between them If you loose the control of your bike e.g. in a case of high Speed and a flat......i had just good feeling in the Downhill, but in my meories is the main Thing: If somebody will come from the road maybe nobody will find him, because He will fall 300 m 🙈
