How long does a leaking one normally last

I had very hard to tell leak from the water pump where other left tiny marks of leak and mechanic told me u can drive until it starts leaking more or fail or replace now. I decided replacing it because last thing I want is to be stranded on highway. Idk if that’s possible since I’m not mechanic

There is a small hole under my water pump. It leaks. My water pump has been used for 4 years and 170,000 miles. How do I guarantee it? Do I have to go to a car dealer to replace it?? thanks

Also check backing plate for gouging so there is no cavitation. And check old impeller on the shaft. Common failure. Plastic impeller gets hot expands and she starts slipping on the shaft

Thanks a lot, I have a question too. I am leaking fuel from the top of coolant filter just from the water pump. I don’t know if fuel has anything to do here. Pls suggest if you know. Thanks

Hi you shouldn't have fuel there. There are fuel lines in that area if you have frame mounted filter. But they are down below by the frame rail and radiator. I would clean it up and dry it. Run the engine and see where it starts to get wet or follow the drip up to see where it comes from. Also there is a coolant hose up and behind the water pump by the head. The clamps get loose and can leak coolant down
