Yes, I thought for sure Academy would be the first card mentioned. Also, I'm surprised for guys that play Vintage they didn't mention how powerful Goblin Welder and Mindslaver were for a long time.
my favorite combo is knight of the reliquary, search for dark depths, play thespians stage, copy dark depths, dark depths gets sacrificed since its legendary, and since it enters the battlefield with the ice counters on it, and the new copy doesnt have any, then it gets sacrificed and you have a 20/20 flyer.
Hm, best combo cards, Here are a few good ones: Isochron's Scepter, Survival of the Fittest/Fauna Shaman, Splinter Twin/Kiki-Jiki, Voltaic Key, Goblin Welder, Hermit Druid, Tinker, Flash, Channel, Entomb+Exhume, Dark Ritual/Rite of Flame, Brainstorm/Ponder/Preordian, Necropotence/Yawgmoth's Bargain, also Rings of Brighthearth as an honorable mention.
Flash + Academy Rector was so good that Flash was given Power Errata. Later they removed the Power Errata because that is stupid and Protean Hulk became the new creature you used, and after one legacy tournament Flash was banned, and it dominated along side Gush decks until it was restricted in early 2008. Auriok Salvagers + Black Lotus was an infinite mana combo that used Æther Spellbomb to bounce everything draw your deck, play your creatures and take a free turn off of a time walk effect. That deck was called Bomberman. Is Dragonstorm dominated standard and extended for a while. Tooth and Nail was a great extended deck, and if I remember correctly, those were green/blue tron decks that had Academy Ruins + Mind Slaver as a back door combo as well.
Some that went unmentioned: Flash/Hulk, Cadaverous Bloom, Sneak Attack, Enduring Renewal, Sword of the Meek, Recurring Nightmare, Dream Halls, Tinker, Land Tax/Scroll rack.
During my first 3-4 years of competitive magic I seen these and they will always stand out in my mind: 1. Cadaverous Bloom, Squandered Resources, Natural Balance, and Prosperity. The fact that all 4 were in the same block was kinda nuts. 2. Replenish, Opalescence, Attunement, Parallax Tide and Wave. All in Type II at the same time. 3. Tinker, Phyrexian Colossus, Voltaic Key 4. Phyrexian Tower+Academy Rector=Yawgmoth's Bargain/Will+Soul Feast Think this is what the Original question was asking
I would have defined combo cards as cards that are sub par or outright bad/pointless by themselves but become amazing when 'combo'd' with something else. So stuff like Painter's Servant, Time Vault, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Illusions of Grandeur, Intruder Alarm etc
Squandered Resources + Fastbond in play, Tap and sac all lands (min 6, but more is better), with at least 12 mana (15 is better) - Jokulhaups Then Yawgmoth's Will. - you need 3 more mana; so play 3 more lands from your graveyard with fastbond then play Shaman's Trance and a good idea to play Zuran orb. ~~ Now you can play all the lands out of your opponents graveyard (Sac em for life and play em again for infinite life, this works since they don't get exiled cause they don't go to your yard) - Then tap the lands, sac em play em etc and cast all the cards from both your and opponents grave yards. ~ ~ Dumbest most complicated combo; But pulling it off is the best.
There was this deck that won the world championship of 1997, that featured Shadow Guildmage and 'enters play' cards like Man o War, Nekrataal and Uktabi Orangutan. The Guildmage could just return cards like Nekrataal and it would destroy creatures over and over.
Stasis-Kismet-Capsize was my favorite combo when I was playing. I didn't win all the time, but that deck was fun regardless...and everyone else HATED that deck. That made it even more fun to play. >:D
It wasn't out at the time, but when I think of versatile, high impact combo cards, I think of Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Sure, it was pretty niche and mostly just good as a Commander, but man, you can combo SO much with that guy.
Needs to be updated. Deadeye Navigator is easily one of the best combo cards of all time, especially when paired with great whale. Maelstrom Wanderer should say "Start your combo here" and Omniscience + Enter the Infinite = ultimate win combo
Honarable Mention Pestermite\Deciver Exarch+Splinter Twin or Kiki Jiki, Mirror Breaker 10.Entomb+Reanimate 9.Counterbalance+Sensei`s Diving Top 8.Survival of the fittest 7.Hexmage+Dark Depths 6.Anything With Storm 5.Anything With Dredge 4.Oath of Druids 3.Tinker(One card combo) 2.Flash+Protean Hulk or Academy Rector 1.Timevault+Voltaic Key
what abouuuuuut....Sylvan Library and Abundance?? Draw 3 cards each turn without paying life, and choose land or non-land for each one! I think It's awesome.
Hmm... Sanguine Bond, Exquisite Blood, Pulse Tracker. Turn 6 win without mana acceleration, If you're running BG with an elf engine or if you have Dark Rituals it can come out earlier. (Sanguine Bond = every time you gain life , target opponent takes equal damage, 3BB. Exquisite Blood = whenever an opponent loses life you gain equal life, 4B. Pulse Tracker = 1/1, whenever Pulse Tracker attacks every opponent takes 1 damage, B).
Why don't they reprint cards like Time vault for standard and balance them? Like "This card can only be untapped by playing the mana cost". And just ban out or stop playing power 9 in formats.
I don't this would be necessarily considered a combo, but bear with me. If you go first this is even better. turn one; glistened elf. (1/1 infect green) turn two: might of krosa during the main phase (+2/+2 instant, +4/+4 if cast during the main phase) and then a berserk (+X/+0 where X is it's current power, the creature dies during the end step). with this you end up with a 10/5 with infect on turn two. attack, your opponent, if he had no turn one drop ends up with ten poison counter. Boom bada bing, you win.
Nakatl War-Pride and Overrun or True Conviction, it also works with any existing creature boosts, but in my infect deck this allows me to end the game for certain, in a confrontation against a deck with lots of tokens and creatures and shit like that. Once I managed to play both and even a hyena totem armor in Nakatl War-Pride and that made 7/7 tokens with first strike, double strike, lifelink and trample...I winned the game with hundreds of HP cuz de the defending player had 9 creatures...
Dark ritual, entomb, put any creature in ur deck into ur graveyard the with the 2 mana in ur mana pool from ritual u play exhume my fav black combo of all time for gettin any creature in ur deck first turn
@mage24365 Absolutely, the card so busted it had to be emergency banned because it knackered the format. Time Spiral would be another...bascailly any of those "free spells", High Tide, Tolarian Academy, Academy Rector maybe, Hulk/Flash, Living Death maybe although that was more a 1 card combo, Enduring Renewal, almost any "draw 7"....
I really really enjoy it when Patrick Chapin is in these, make him a regular!
Love this! It's pure magic nerdness and the aura of two of the biggest players ever!
This show seriously needs to come back.
If only TSG wouldn’t have stolen ten of thousands of dollars worth of bonfires
Listening to two super pros like this is amazing. The cards popping up helps newer players a LOT and it's a great vid. Keep this stuff up.
Who is here years later remembering being a kid watching this
I'm just sitting here looking at the old card prices and am amazed that Kozilek was only $4 back then
"Buylist"
Wow whoever edited this is a genius.
lsv used to be realllllll chunky good for him that he lost alot of weight
There's hope for all of us... he scouped spartz up

Don’t think those cards where out when bud was released

geez the buy list marquee. arid mesa: $6.00
good times.
Some that went unmentioned: Flash/Hulk, Cadaverous Bloom, Sneak Attack, Enduring Renewal, Sword of the Meek, Recurring Nightmare, Dream Halls, Tinker, Land Tax/Scroll rack.
Worldgorger Dragon in the graveyard and any reanimate spell? Doesn't that automatically win, so they had to ban the Dragon?
I'm surprised they didn't mention the "good old" Tolarian Academy deck.
So...intruder alarm? I can think of at least 10 combos simply off the top of my head that it creates. Not the best, but certainly has quantity.
During my first 3-4 years of competitive magic I seen these and they will always stand out in my mind:
1. Cadaverous Bloom, Squandered Resources, Natural Balance, and Prosperity. The fact that all 4 were in the same block was kinda nuts.

Think this is what the Original question was asking
Did they mention Fork with Channel Fireball? How about two of these three; Nettling Imp, Royal Assassin, and Icy Manipulator?
@heretic98 When was it on?
8 rack and any mill spell?
OMG.. how was Channel Fireball not the first combo to come to mind?? LOL
Pariah and Stuff Doll?
@heretic98 Back?? They've actually shown it before?? o_O
Yo channelfireball ima let u finish but Channel and fireball were some the best combo cards of all time
How do i submit one of these questions?
Show a picture of LSV when he was young!
Humphrey's commentary, spot on.
Nice performance Humphrey!
were was cadaverous bloom+prosperity?
I would have defined combo cards as cards that are sub par or outright bad/pointless by themselves but become amazing when 'combo'd' with something else. So stuff like Painter's Servant, Time Vault, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Illusions of Grandeur, Intruder Alarm etc
no high tide?
Isochron's Scepter and Orim's Chant/Silence?
What about Protean Hulk + Flash?
that shotgun at 3:17 scared the shit out of me
Innovation can involve taking what exists and evolving it with success.
Recurring Nightmare/Great Whale - Caused an errata on the land untapping cards.
Mind over matter, Academy ruins, Pili Pala, Deadeye Navigator
what about channel+fireball?
its really wierd but it seems a lot of in a lot of interview video chapin is in he is spreading his legs towards the camera xD
I won a vintage tournament with Aluren/Pandamonium [insert gating creature] aluren slivers was pretty damn good too.
I wish this was at least 20 minutes longer...

No Kiki Jiki?!? He can go infinite in so many different ways!
What about Polymorph?
Stasis-Kismet-Capsize was my favorite combo when I was playing. I didn't win all the time, but that deck was fun regardless...and everyone else HATED that deck. That made it even more fun to play. >:D
My favourites combos:
1st → Sliver Overlord + Amoeboid Changeling
2nd→ Memnarch + Liquimetal Coating
Comment please
just realized that it was 2010, the combo i was imagining was stoneforge batterskull. if they had only known then what was coming in the future.
When I played ice age I had the combo orchish lumberjack and elves for acceseraltion , into jokulhaups floating four green for lhurgoyf.
Pat seems stoned, but I've never met him so maybe he's just super laid back.
@O K my stoner friends can be weird sometimes, ngl. Lols
I can't wait for the advertising clothes
It wasn't out at the time, but when I think of versatile, high impact combo cards, I think of Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Sure, it was pretty niche and mostly just good as a Commander, but man, you can combo SO much with that guy.
@Torleep Definitely. Great combo.
This video is before the time of this combo, but restoration angle tragtusk
Second Sunrise egg deck that went 15-1 in a modern Pro Tour. in Dragon's Maze or Ravnica, I forgot which.
It was probably Ravnica. Second Sunrise is banned now.
This video was posted in 2010...
Intruder Alarm?
dang, rewatching old top 8's really shows how much weight LSV lost
aww no Thopter meak or Hexmage Dark depts. but then again ive only been playing for a few years
my favorite combo: Omniscience and Enter the Infinite. Have fun :)
Um, Hexmage + Depths? Strange that wasn't mentioned......
Hulkflash was missing.
Needs to be updated. Deadeye Navigator is easily one of the best combo cards of all time, especially when paired with great whale. Maelstrom Wanderer should say "Start your combo here" and Omniscience + Enter the Infinite = ultimate win combo
Ad Nauseam?
ProsBloom??? One of the classic combos!
Honarable Mention Pestermite\Deciver Exarch+Splinter Twin or Kiki Jiki, Mirror Breaker
10.Entomb+Reanimate
9.Counterbalance+Sensei`s Diving Top
8.Survival of the fittest
7.Hexmage+Dark Depths
6.Anything With Storm
5.Anything With Dredge
4.Oath of Druids
3.Tinker(One card combo)
2.Flash+Protean Hulk or Academy Rector
1.Timevault+Voltaic Key
what abouuuuuut....Sylvan Library and Abundance?? Draw 3 cards each turn without paying life, and choose land or non-land for each one! I think It's awesome.

splinter twin??
Old vid, but dream halls, memory jar, hermit druid, tolarian academy, lion's eye diamond, flash + hulk, candelabra of tawnos, etc
They have arid mesa here at $6.00
Verdant catacombs $5.00
If I get a time machine, I'm going back to 2010..
yeah I saw a vid with karn around 10$ or so. I even had a playset and a foil and sold them off for pretty much nothing then tron became a thing...lol
myr galvanizer+ alloy myr+ splinter twin+ war report= infinite hp, infinite attack, infinite defense and infinite mana. it's my favorite combo
Patrick Chapin is the coolest MtG-Player ever!
mind desire FTW .. miss that deck
Why don't they reprint cards like Time vault for standard and balance them? Like "This card can only be untapped by playing the mana cost". And just ban out or stop playing power 9 in formats.
+Brandon Morris Because this isnt yugioh lmao
TeamZero420 yugioh bans cards cause Konami says so. Magic is now situated in how they balance cards so why not revisit them?
He has a Cube show now, they stream @ twitch(dot)tv/eckamon , I think. I don't usually watch, I'm not a big cube enthusiast.
Chapin looked like Owen Wilson back in the day.
Seeing the pricelists. Kozilek for $4. Whaaaaaaat?
Memory Jar missed much?
Entomb + Debtor's Knell
Everyone loves free creatures.
I'm really disappointed you used the new Necropotence. Old one is so much cooler. :(
high tide?
I don't this would be necessarily considered a combo, but bear with me. If you go first this is even better.
turn one; glistened elf. (1/1 infect green)
turn two: might of krosa during the main phase (+2/+2 instant, +4/+4 if cast during the main phase) and then a berserk (+X/+0 where X is it's current power, the creature dies during the end step).
with this you end up with a 10/5 with infect on turn two. attack, your opponent, if he had no turn one drop ends up with ten poison counter. Boom bada bing, you win.
Invigorate + berserk. It's one mana cheaper which could be more important
Patrick please join CFB permanently!!!
And come play at Drom's sometime. :)
They forgot Earthcraft
Verdant Catacombs was 5 dollars. Primeval Titan was 30.
they missed alot of good cards that were out at that time ... Memory Jar, Stasis, tolarian academy, splinter twin ( was out and so was pestermite)
Twin only really became a recognized deck after scars with the birthing pod twin standard deck using deceiver exarch.
belcher???
Nakatl War-Pride and Overrun or True Conviction, it also works with any existing creature boosts, but in my infect deck this allows me to end the game for certain, in a confrontation against a deck with lots of tokens and creatures and shit like that.

Dark ritual, entomb, put any creature in ur deck into ur graveyard the with the 2 mana in ur mana pool from ritual u play exhume my fav black combo of all time for gettin any creature in ur deck first turn
how about memory jar?
that thing was such a HOUSE it got emergency-banned the firs tournament it was ever in =).
#1 combo is Time Walk and Fork
@mage24365 Absolutely, the card so busted it had to be emergency banned because it knackered the format. Time Spiral would be another...bascailly any of those "free spells", High Tide, Tolarian Academy, Academy Rector maybe, Hulk/Flash, Living Death maybe although that was more a 1 card combo, Enduring Renewal, almost any "draw 7"....
I'm sad they didn't mention kiki-jiki
Good times, Arid Mesa $6.00...
Panoptic mirror + Timewalk =)
But Tinker + Jar, Titan, Colossus, whatever... as others have said.
Aphetto Alchemist and Wake Thrasher
@Telthazur Definitely.
Kikki Jikki is pretty ridiculous too.
Tolarian Academy, Mind over Matter, Memory Jar???
@Gregandthensome Cos' it was awesome.
