I knew my son was gay from about the age of three. It all came to light when he was thirteen and I accidentally saw a message from him to his cousin saying that he thought he was bi-sexual, so I asked him about it and said that I’d known since he was a little boy. He later came out as gay. He’s nearly 22 now and is happy and proud of who he is, as are we. No child should have to be ashamed of their sexuality or be afraid. To live your truth is so very important. Thank you guys for sharing your very special and intimate stories. Big loves xxx

I can’t wait for a day in the future where people don’t have to “come out”. Straight people don’t have to come out as straight and it pains my soul people have to state their sexuality. Love is love❤️. Love you guys!

Thank you guys for sharing and for expressing the turmoil a young person lives with. We had a family member come out at age 22 and his parents disowned him. He disappeared. It was heartbreaking. My husband and I were able to find him. He was safe but so depressed. He found a safe place with us. At the time my two were 5 and 3 years. From then on all we wanted was for our two to be happy in their lives. It took years but his parents finally accepted him. He is now 45 and happily married to a lovely man.

I smiled all the way through this video, my son came out at 13 to me, like you nick he came down stairs opened the fridge and started crying, so I panicked and was shouting what’s wrong what’s wrong.......... he finally said mum I’m gay! I was like I know that but what’s wrong........ I’ve always known and he has amazing friends who all accept him, but my mums the funniest she’s 74 and so proud to have a gay grandson, she thinks every family should have 1 🙄. His boyfriend is in a completely different situation unfortunately, he’s tried to come out but his dad shaved his hair off and hit him, it’s so sad, but he has our support xx

My daughter aged 11 passed me a note to tell me she preferred girls to boys, she pushed it under the door and went back to bed. By the time I saw it she was asleep. So the next day I knew she would feel a little awkward, she asked me if I'd seen the note, I said I had, and bless her she asked me if it was alright. I told her of course it was. All I ever want for my children is for them to be happy. Within the hour she was then telling her grandparents and her closest friends. It is a privilege to be told this and it must feel like that for a moment your whole world could change. But as I've followed you guys for years she felt that I was open to the idea of her being gay. Wonderful video Leigh and Nick.😊

When I was going upto senior school my dad came to speak to me and my sister to tell us he was gay, I was was upset but I werent upset because he was gay I was upset/worried about what friends would say because at my age back then kids were nasty... but I was wrong everyone was fine so that was a huge relief. My dad was 35 when he came out. Hes 60 now and married. I love him to bits for who he is x

I was the same, I had just started senior school when I realised my mum was gay and her girlfriend moved in. It was so difficult at school, I was bullied so much for it. I’m glad everyone took it well for you.
I’m so relieved that times have changed. Love is love, gender doesn’t matter x

    What a great post. Xx
My son came out at my 40th Birthday party. Thanks xx
I think I knew he was from as early at 2 yrs old.
All I can say is that all I ever wanted for all of my 3 children. Was for them to be Happy and healthy
I feel blessed that they all are.
His journey was not easy. But he has survived. And is a stronger person for it of which I am so immensely proud.
Sadly not every parent , family and so called friend is so understanding
But be brave be strong we are all what we are.
Prejudice comes in all shapes and and forms.
    Every life matters xx

Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us guys. I came out as Trans to my Mum in 2005 at age 14. I did something similar to Leigh and used a notebook to write to her. We went back and forth writing to each other in this notebook for a couple of days until we finally spoke in person. She found it difficult at first but is now my biggest supporter, she even joined Manchester Parents Group and now helps other parents to support their LGBTQ kids.

I think it’s really brave and noble that you’ve shared you story even though it’s private and you weren’t totally comfortable, but for the sake of someone who might need to hear it to feel more comfortable with their own situation. My nephew came out about a year ago and I was so happy to hear him say that he was never worried about what people would think and never had negative feelings about who he was. I hope that the world continues to grow and learn so that everyone can be happy being their true self. Videos like this help to keep it moving in the right direction. Bravo.

I loved this video. My mum came out to me in the late 90s. I accepted it right away but other people weren’t so kind to her or me (I was still in school at the time). She married my step-mum and with that came my step-sister who I just class as my sister. Now thanks to their marriage, I have two nieces and a nephew who just see it as the norm that they have two grandmas’ that live together, which I think is amazing. Times have changed so much and it’s great to see how accepting people are now. Keep up the good work guys. I love your vlogs and look forward to watching them each day 😊

Well done guys, my son came out as gay to myself and husband on new years eve 3 years ago he was 21. He said 'I've got something to tell you' then stuttered and couldn't get the words out, I knew what was coming, so told him to take a deep breath and just say it. He did, we were so proud of him, still are, he said it was the hardest thing he ever had to tell us, , We spent the rest of the evening reassuring him that nothing had changed and we still loved him as much as ever had and nothing would ever change that ❤

I've grown up with a gay uncle . I remember when they decided to get married they both said get your hats your going to your 1st gay wedding .( their both in their 60's been together 30 years ). Even my 2 daughters at 3 and 5 were on phone screaming with excitement. They both couldn't give 2 hoots. It was the best day finally seeing them have this amazing wedding which they'd always wanted x

It's a very hard thing to talk about for me as well. Mine was horrible at first....My mother told me i was going to hell! Yeah its harsh but My mother is a product of the Old South in America. But as the years have gone on after many many conversations and lots of education....she has come around bless her. I don't fault her at all but it's something we definitely had to work through. Thanks for sharing guys!!!

I’m pleased you’ve told your story , it will hopefully help some one to not feel awkward about telling their family . I was in the army and one of my close friends told me she was gay ! I felt for her , because in our day ,if you were gay in the army and they found out you were immediately discharged ! It was a secret, I never told anyone ,because she was a good soldier and loved the army as did I. At least she had some one to talk too! Stay safe guys !

What a great video. You’ve no doubt helped some people bring so candid. My nephew came out last year at 13 but he actually now believes he’s transgender. For the family it’s about educating ourselves so we can support him as it’ll be a few years before he can fully transition. He has been accepted within his friendship group which is a great thing. I just hope & pray that continues. Live your truth and be kind it’s all that matters. 🌈

Back in summer our 12 year older daughter text us to say she was transgender. As soon as I read it I sat in tears, she wasn’t around she was in her room. She had always been a tomboy so I always thought expected something coming. It just took me at the end of a really bad week. Now I accept these feelings, I don’t think she wants to be a boy I have discussed stage idea of sexuality with her and things changed you do not have to label anything! I said to my husband this weekend I don’t want her to feel she has to come to us to come out I want her to know we already know and are happy no matter what.

I'm the proud mum of a child i gave birth to as a boy . He was always camp as it where , loved pretty things , dolls , shoes etc. But Lots of bullying in school and is an only child so had no siblings to confide in . He always had friends and was very popular despite it all . Most of his friends where girls.
We have had many ups and downs over the years and he was very tetchy and unruly .. as I thought and when he was 19 we had another Row! Over the phone. I blurted it out "is this got something to do with your sexuality ?" And he said yes ! From that day I assumed he was gay , I cried a lot , but mainly because I was scared for him due to the Hate some people have. I loved him just the same . It made no odds to me cos he was my son and part of my body . ! ❤️
5 years went by .. and we where all living this life . Him as a gay man and me as a mum of a gay son . No probs.
But .. one day I got a text from him out of the blue. .... a long text !! , telling me that he had to let it out that he had been living in the wrong body and has known this since he was 11 !
You can imagine my surprise and the disappointment in myself that I had let him down for all these years.
I refer to my son as my daughter now as we go through the hard journey of transition .
I had / She had a double whammy and we have a long hard road ahead, but I couldn't be prouder of my brave , courageous, beautiful child .
All you mums out there, love your children no matter what . ❤️💋🐥
Well done and Thankyou boys for sharing your story .
Haters ...... "to the left!" Xx

What a lovely story, really enjoyed listening to you. Made me laugh when Leigh blurted it out and ran upstairs. Your story will help so many people who, even in this day and age, are scared to say how they really feel.....look at Philip Schofield. Well done guys.

Wow. Thank you for covering this. There will come a day when people don't have to "come out". I hate that phrase. You are what you are, your life is your own and NOBODY had the right to say how you live it. (Unless it's hurting others).
Love you guys. You are amazing ❤

My wife and I had two very different coming out stories: (K)hers was very much, 'this is me' and pretty much everyone was like yeah duh, and we're supportive. (S)mine was a struggle for many years with some close family members and made those relationships strained for many years. Friends were very supportive and kept me going. I can only hope that like you say; it's much easier for young people to be who they are without having to 'come out' because it will just be normal for someone to be with who ever they want to be with.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult at the age of 45. ADHD is not something one chooses; it’s a neurodevelopmental condition that typically originates in the womb. It involves differences in brain function, including lower than average levels of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that plays a key role in attention and motivation. To manage this, I now take supplements to help regulate my dopamine levels.
Similarly, sexual orientation is not a choice; it’s an inherent part of who we are. As science advances, we increasingly understand that many aspects of our behavior and identity, including ADHD and sexual orientation, are influenced by complex biological and chemical processes. For instance, research suggests that a variety of factors, including genetics and prenatal environment, can influence sexual orientation.
It must be incredibly challenging to come out, especially in a society that often pressures individuals to conform to certain norms. Our fear of going against the grain is deeply ingrained, but it’s important to remember that we are biological beings, shaped by both our genetics and our environment. Just as machines have mechanical functions, our bodies and brains function based on intricate biological processes.

Just watched the vlog. It was lovely to hear your story. I've had people coming out to me and I've found it awkward. Not because they are gay it's that I dont care they are gay but I know it was difficult for them to come out. I'm never sure how to react and dont want to just brush that moment off for them.

  • @Dan-bk1jp

What response had you imagined you would get? And how do you feel about the reactions you got?
It makes me sad really that people still have to come out at all because I wouldn’t come out as being straight 🤷🏼‍♀️ but as a mam I hope my babies know I love them to bits and they can tell me anything 🥰

I am not gay but have friends who are and one in particular I knew from a young age that he preferred boys . It was hard for him but suddenly a new friend appeared and we all just accepted them as they were. I was a case of so what ...this was in the 60s .
