The quality of this video (production, treatment of a topic, pretty much everything) is just too good for youtube. Hope whatever it is that you're doing now you are appreciated more!
Night in the Woods is an experience that takes a lot to unpack. I live in Kentucky and went to a community college for the first 2 years. The aimless wandering around, the visiting friends at their workplace, those experiences in game were very relatable. While I identified with Bea a little more than Gregg, I had friends that reminded me of Gregg, Bea, and Angus. There are towns only an hour away that had been coal mining towns that used to be incredibly populated but now look like ghost towns. There is even a pretty liberal (for the area) and technically more advanced mega church where I live. I love how it presents these characters and town without condemning them. It never shames Mae's mom for believing in Jesus. It's really hard to unpack all the meaning for myself in Night in the Woods, but it is very much one of the most relatable stories around today.
I blame my small town narrow mindedness for my late coming out at the age of 39. I'm so glad I got out of it, I was numbing myself with the villagers's illusory reality.
Yo dude, Your amazing this blows my vid on this out of the water. The Editing, soundtrack, voice over... the video... wowzers... I am genuinely depressed that I can't produce something this amazing.
I grew up in a blue collar town with a population of less than 800 and this game spoke to me on so many levels. I got so excited when I saw this video in my subscriptions - it's so beautifully done and it really made my night to watch. Thank you.
This is one of my all time favourite videos. Spent over 12 introverted years on youtube, since I was practically a child. Not too many of the videos I have seen I would call as moving and insightful and revealing as I would this one. Well made in all ways. Thanks Satch
Satch, you continue to blow my mind with your vision, style, and passion on the subjects you cover. This was a beautiful piece. I'm very excited to play this game and experience it for myself.
As someone from a town in northern California with 750 people who now lives in a big city. This whole video really spoke to me and I found myself looking up the different towns people were talking about. We need more videos, man.
Came back to visit a channel I enjoyed dearly years ago and found a gem! I woud watch Satchell talk about small towns for hours. Such good production, pacing, editing! Gosh it is just a joy to watch these videos! Came because of the game, stayed for cinematic poetry.
I have missed your long-form content so much. You always do a very thoughtful and empathetic analysis of stories that I think do a great service to the creators. I had these similar thoughts while playing NITW, growing up in a small town, being/feeling like the "different" kid but you put it in a way I could never have.
As someone who lives in a small town in Pennsylvania, I can definitely relate to both Night in the Woods and this video in general. You are truly one of a kind when it comes to docs like these.
I appreciate you making this essay. I played NitW last year at the recommendation of a (now former) friend. I didn’t grow up in a small town like Possum Springs (from the Detroit area), but I felt like I at least understood the town and what it represented. I found it intriguing and I wanted to find out more. I spent my time spread out among Greg, Angus, and Bea and I found their stories interesting but something didn’t click. I was a little disappointed by the ending, but I think it may have been because this story isn’t meant for someone like me and I didn’t understand. I was more of a spectator watching the events unfold rather than a witness to their impact and significance. I’m happy there are those of you out there who experienced it more like a witness and were then willing to help the rest of us appreciate it better and have a new, though maybe incomplete, understanding of its significance. Thank you
This was by far the best video I've found discussing NITW. Having other people discuss their experiences growing up in similar areas was something I never see in video essays. You were able to approach some of the themes with a perspective that was both informative and personal. I needed this and I wish I could've watched this sooner.
Incredible video. I am one of the ones who was looking specifically for a video about the subtleness about living in small town PA mentioned at the end. And all I can say is thank you for making this
Finally found a half-hour to dedicate exclusively to this. I knew it was worth waiting for a time where I could be completely focused on one of your videos. I look forward to your next endeavor.
The nicest thing that had ever happened to me was during a confession at my local church in small town/rich town jersey where I confessed to having interest in boys and girls and not really believing in god and my pastor said, these are not sins these are challenges and the answer you find truly in yourself are the ones god wants for you. I never realized saying my feelings would lead to...compromise rather than anger and disagreement. To this day I have friends disagree with their parents and I clench my fists waiting for the yelling and the fight only to be met with conversation.
good ad in the description, that's a good use of the description! although even after all these years of youtube i'm pretty sure people STILL don't read it ha
I subscribed to you years ago and loved the videos that you posted! Not long after, you seemed to fade away. Then I saw this video pop up. There’s no way I could tell you how happy I am to see you back and release content of this caliber!! Thank you dude! Keep ‘em coming! I’m still a big fan of yours!
I wanted to watch this as soon as I saw you post, but I had to wait because I needed to study for finals, and I knew that if this was even close to any of your other work I'd be up late all night thinking about what you had to say. Now that I've finished my finals and finished watching this I can soundly say that I'm glad I waited. I'm going to think long and hard about everything here and soak up the experience. Thanks again for your amazing work- it's always had an impact on me.
What I love the most about this game is just how many layers of storytelling and atmosphere there are. The experiences you guys had; what you took away was so different from what I related to and took away and yet I feel as if both were legitimate elements Bethany and Scott weaved into the story. Possum Springs just feels like a small town like the one I'm from, and they did an incredible job bringing it to life with all of the pros and cons of a small town intact. Outstanding video.
This was so good and felt so good to watch. I feel like there's a lot to feel from both Gregg and Bea's stories; one of Gregg's being hoping the best for your friends, even as they move on from you, and Bea's being accepting your situation and the people around you. Since I first played this game, I've moved out and started forming my own path, but originally I related with Bea to a painful degree. I very much felt trapped living with my family in a place that didn't seem like it was going to change, and I was going to be trapped there for the sake of others. In a way, Gregg's story was the opposite of that. It was a story of ultimately coming to terms with leaving the comforts of an old town, for the sake of yourself. It was a journey in self-discovery through fear of losing yourself by chasing your goals. I didn't grasp this at first because I was enthralled at how much I loved Angus and how much I related to his side of queer representation in the game. In hindsight, I realize that I moved out only a couple months after playing this game. I wonder how much of Gregg and Angus's story influenced me to finally move out. I wonder how much all of their stories helped me move out. I'm glad. Thanks for sharing your feelings and making me feel compelled to share mine, haha.
This video was amazing, it resonated with me Especially the part about leaving your city/town/etc you grew up in and how you have to give up that comfort of the well known. Thank you for making this video.
Thank you for continuing to produce content. It's always an absolute pleasure. Please continue your creative reflections on pop culture; I can't wait to see what you do next.
I was just thinking the other day "I don't care for Gregg's story but I bet there's someone out there who loves it and with whom it resonates." I'm so glad to know this game has something for everyone. Loved the idea that an identity stolen creates a new personality. Lots to think on. I'll def revisit this video again lol
I cannot say enough how every single video you put out adds much needed perspective to my life. I have loved learning a little more about you as a person each time you post something and sprinkle in some personal info. As a deconstructing christian I would love to hear you speak more to your experiences with religion. Not sure if you have another place where you have done that already, but my interest it there.
Beautiful work. Thoughtful and thought provoking. I am lucky that I have not had to fight the same issue for the same reason, but for other reasons, and I have seen so many of my loved ones have to face it. Thank you for bringing your own voice.
This game resonated deeply within me. Im from central america, not even a small town with a mining background. And boy, am I still processing the whole experience. I guess I connected with the mental illness side of everything. It's great to see how things resonated in the actual, intended audience: LOVED your essay!
I always wanted to know why the most horrible of movements and organization can tragically be so understood. Not to say that their actions are justified, but sometimes slowing down to take a moment to understand the more different view point, does more for scoping your purpose in life, than does following your own beliefs. Because you have to be buried in the confusion of the world to pull yourself out of the darkness. Out of the woods. Thanks for making me thing Satchel! Glad your still doing you on youtube.
i just moved to Bucks county from MD. the content of this video will be in my mind for a little while i think. Wild coincidence for me. excellent video.
I have so much love and feelings tied into this game. This video put a lot of thoughts and feelings I had into words more beautifully than I ever could. Thank you for this video.
I have missed this kind of content from you and it is great to have it back especially since it is so good this is up there with That Dragon called Cancer if I'm remembering the title correctly but yeah this is amazing perspective not just on a game but on life in general hope to see more like this in the future and I have no problem waiting for it quality this good is worth waiting for
You're an incredible artist Satch. I might not agree with a lot of the content in this, but I understand beauty when I see it. And this video is beautiful. Would love to see you do more videos in this style. Maybe in something like Nier Automata or something else.
Thanks for reminding me to play the game again but with Gregg this time. I choose Bea at the time because I knew the relationship with May will give more background to both of their stories, while Gregg would tell me about the town. I have to spend time with Angus either way though. The big guy is adorable.
Hey! I'm very new to this channel and loving it so far! I loved the videos on Firewatch, That Dragon Cancer, and of course this one. If you haven't played it already, I wanted to reccomend 'The Beginners Guide', a game somewhat similar to these.
The clip of the pastor shouting is a pastor of the name of John Piper, and He is probably one of the most loving human beings I'm aware of. Wonderful video, just bummed to see John in this context.
This was great, but I feel you didn’t go far enough. People in most parts of the country don’t understand how painful it is to watch a place die. To watch your family suffer as their jobs go away, and are replaced with drugs, alchohol, and crime. To watch as busniesses you went to as a child decay into empty buildings with boarded up doors and broken glass. To watch people say they’re going to save you and then leaving you to die. To face your family, calling you a traitor for wanting to leave and start a better life. All of these things and more need to be be shown, you have a voice, and it would be fantastic if you would speak it.
Well then, this got me thinking on some stuff tonight. Nestled me into a weird spot with this one. Not a bad thing! Outstanding actually.
The quality of this video (production, treatment of a topic, pretty much everything) is just too good for youtube. Hope whatever it is that you're doing now you are appreciated more!
Wonderful work, excellent presentation. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Don’t let it get you down, man. Try again.
I had no idea I wanted to see Satchell Drakes cover NITW but man is he covering it in such a neat, freeform way with a fascinating perspective.
Those brief cuts to black in the interviews... real good.
I was unprepared for how good this is!
Same, video brought me to tears.
I grew up in a blue collar town with a population of less than 800 and this game spoke to me on so many levels. I got so excited when I saw this video in my subscriptions - it's so beautifully done and it really made my night to watch. Thank you.

Same here. Still relevant today too.

Must admit. The presentation of this video is amazing. I am so glad a video of this caliber exists.
Satch doesn't post often but when he does you know you're in for something that's quality.
One of my favorite TH-camrs talking about my favourite game. Aww yeah...
As someone who lives in a small town in Pennsylvania, I can definitely relate to both Night in the Woods and this video in general. You are truly one of a kind when it comes to docs like these.
"finding permission to change." I'm gonna remember that as a person who is looking forward to developing post college.

This video is excellent. Beautiful stories, wonderful people, fantastic analysis. It is a joy watching and truly shows the hardship of people.

This video deserves so many more views
I missed this kind of of video from you - and I love it when good art gets the fictional and the real to touch in meaningful ways.

Games with this much depth are worth the Case Studies, man
This video is perfect
This video was amazing, it resonated with me

Still some of the most refreshing and thoughtful stuff I've found on this platform. Thanks
Omg the night in the woods characters 😭 I miss them so much! It’s been 2 years since I’ve played it 😭
Beautiful work. Thoughtful and thought provoking. I am lucky that I have not had to fight the same issue for the same reason, but for other reasons, and I have seen so many of my loved ones have to face it. Thank you for bringing your own voice.

Wow, that was awesome! Beautiful work sir!
You inspire me a lot! Hello from Brazil!
Absolutely love your videos man. Always amazed, never surprised.
My god , thank you for this . I’m simply in awe how well made this is dude !

Such a joy to watch this man
i just moved to Bucks county from MD. the content of this video will be in my mind for a little while i think. Wild coincidence for me. excellent video.
Really glad I got a chance to watch this. I hope this makes it to more fans of NitW as well.
Thank you. Hearing other people echo the same feelings I had when I encountered Gregg in this game just, hits. This was a FANTASTIC video.
I have so much love and feelings tied into this game. This video put a lot of thoughts and feelings I had into words more beautifully than I ever could. Thank you for this video.

I'm so happy you made this. Night in the Woods is really a special game.
I was waiting to finish the game before watching this, but wow this is fantastic
*NOW THIS IS A VIDEO GAME REVIEW* 👏
This video was very well thought out, and your style of editing is amazing holy shit. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers
Man, you really know how to make reviews into full fledged documentaries. You are an absolute beast!
You are just the man.
Cool stuff!
i dont have much to say besides thank you for putting into words my thoughts on this game
Fantastic work. I needed this today.
Only recently found this game and I like could get enough of it. Amazing informative video.
Thanks for reminding me to play the game again but with Gregg this time. I choose Bea at the time because I knew the relationship with May will give more background to both of their stories, while Gregg would tell me about the town.
I have to spend time with Angus either way though. The big guy is adorable.
Your ability to make incredible content is without comparison. Keep it up!
Whoa, never played this game
Hope all is well man. Always adored your content.

If you haven't played it already, I wanted to reccomend 'The Beginners Guide', a game somewhat similar to these.
I can only dream of such an aesthetic
Thank you satch, I needed this
you make my favorite gaming content.
Thanks
This was exceptional, you've cemented yourself as one of my absolute favorite content creators. Gregg rulz ok!
Holy shit I needed this video. Im lost for words.
Holy Fuck I remember "Continue?" Jesus christ
Which video essays do you recommend as having the best analysis of Night in The Woods?
My dude! Somehow you always make vids on stuff I love :D
Hell yeah. Satchell, go on MeansTV.
Glad I wasn't the only one who made a beeline to hang with Gregg. He rules ok???
X-Pastor is my favorite marvel hero
The clip of the pastor shouting is a pastor of the name of John Piper, and He is probably one of the most loving human beings I'm aware of. Wonderful video, just bummed to see John in this context.
good job
Ah hell yes 😩😔👊
who exactly are all the people being interviewed? I 'm trying to get their info to follow them on social media
