    Hey Guys! Glad to see all of you taking an interest in the video! Just to be transparent, this video was made before the release of 3.0. With the exception of Collie I did not include the Sumeru portion of the archon quest with my evaluation. I agree Sumeru has improved the story a little and I will return to it at a later date. 😄

    The reason we don't see Teppei's funeral is because Teppei did not really die. He faked his death for the greater good, then retired as an inconspicuous street-food salesman by dying his hair. You will find him everywhere, traveling across Teyvat wearing disguises -- sometimes as a knight of Favonius, sometimes as a Milileth, etc.

    one of my biggest issues with genshin is that the characters don't actually exist in that game. they appear in quests, interact with each other probably once or twice in their life and then completely evaporate. they don't walk around the city, you can't see them in their respective work places or homes like imagine going to dawn winery in mondstadt and seeing diluc inside the mansion just sitting there or jean and kaeya in knights of favonious headquarters? how cool would that be? but instead we have the same boring npcs always standing around but the actual characters hoyo wants you to spend money on are nowhere to be found? like where are they?? the only taste of that we got during lantern rite festival where some characters could be spotted in various places of liyue until the end of latern rite event but it should be a norm!

    I think the major problem is that genshin's writing is very childish (as in "minions" or other cartoons aimed at toddlers). And it works for the first two regions because the plot mostly revolves around fantasy tropes and maintains a high fantasy mood. But everything collapses when writers take on more serious topics, such as politics and civil war, with massacres and war crimes, or when they try to play on psychological grounds, retaining the same childish writing.

      I'd argue with "it works for the first two regions". Sure, it does work for the main story, but there are two quests in particular that really frustrated me.
      First, remember that guy in Xiangling quest that slept in ice for 300 years? Imagine the despair he felt realizing all his friends and loved ones are long gone, the world around him has changed dramatically. Oh wait, you guys are doing a cooking showdown? Guess I'll just forget about my whole life!
      The second quest is Xingqiu's one. We're walking through Liyue, spending millions buying out Cor Lapis that was reserved for Snezhnaya, just because one guy gets harassed. Sure, that won't affect economics nor Snezhnaya-Liyue relationships, cuz who cares about Snezhnaya, they have Fatui and Fatui are the bad guys!
      The whole Genshin story is so infantile that I just can't understand people that say they are playing it for the plot.

Sure, it would be interesting if the plotline of the quest explored the despair you mentioned. But also it would disrupt the flow of the questline instead of just playing this for the gags.
      And for the fatui, you damn right. Especially considering that it's in Mondstadt the fatui directly attacked the archon and faced no retaliation at all. Everyone just covered it up. Or not covered up, but completely neglected it. Although... it should be noted, fatui wasn't *that* bad back at the beginning. I mean, there were not much information of their intervention.
      But the later overall neglect of the fatui actions is just underwhelming. They can do whatever they want on foreign soil: lie about their involvement, experiment on people, attack archons and just overally put at risk public safety. And nobody have questions for them nor Snezhnaya authorities.

The political relations between Crossbell State and its two suzerains and the two superpowers of the continent of Zemuria, the Republic of Calvard and the Erebonian Empire, are really compelling. It actually touches on the issues of Crossbell's sovereignty in a way that Mihoyo wishes they could write.
      Mihoyo actually takes inspiration from the Trails series, as Star Rail's director confirmed. I mean, HSR's combat system is just Trails without orbments or movement. Asta's staff is just like the orbal staves of Kiseki. The Fatui is just Teyvat's version of the Secret Society of Ouroboros in Zemuria.
      So they understand what good worldbuilding looks like, but fail to understand why it's good.

    My one issue with Genshin Impact is that despite Teyvat being an entire world, all of the nations seem sectioned off, and the archons and lesser divinities don't interact with each other. The most we got was Venti who healed Xiao's Karmic debt.
    I'm our real world, nations are intentionally or unintentionally effecting each other all the time. Like a trash island forming in the Pacific, the gulf of Mexico's oil spill, the trans Atlantic slave trade, the spreading of religion all across the world.
    People in Liyue don't talk about the Anemo Archon, people in Inazuma don't talk about the Geo archon or his Yaksha. In a world where Gods exist and there was a literal war of gods over territory disputes, we don't see the subtle impulses and effects on each other that truly make Teyvat seem like a living world.
    How cool would it be if some of the mountain tops Barbatos terraformed became islands in Inazuma? Or if Rukkedhevata helped Makoto and Isteroth create the Thunder Sakura tree? One TH-camr, I think Ashikai made a theory that Xiao is originally from Sumeru, that would be cool to explore.

You, the player, are expected to just go along with it and care about characters you have no reason to care about(as cool as they are I have no reason to get emotionally invested in these characters the writers won't justify it). It's the most egregious kind of railroading, where the writer is more concerned with distracting you with all their cool characters and settings rather than telling a cohesive story. The long drawn out dialogue(seriously a lot of what these characters say can be summarized we don't need a whole essay of dialogue to understand what's going on), the shoehorned characters, useless exposition--it all screams "I am trying to waste your time".

    I think the fundamental issue, which also affects it’s gameplay loop, is that Genshin is a game with hundreds of hours of content but tries to make you stay around for thousands. And they’re not gonna use up all the good stuff in the beginning only to then drag it’s corpse for another 10 years, so instead it’s spread out for it’s entire lifetime while they pad it out with filler to make it last.
    It’s somewhat a consequence of it’s gacha model, where their long-term income is dependent on how long they can keep the boat afloat. In fact, I think most of the game’s major flaws are a result of the gacha in one way or another. I do believe though that they are intending to make use of the lore for future quests. We’ve started seeing that being the case with certain quests like the Tsurumi Island one.
    Ultimately, they simply want the story to go on for like a decade so they can keep business going. And putting out new meaningful content every 6 weeks isn’t particularly easy, so inevitably they end up cutting corners in a lot of areas even if that doesn’t respect the players time very much.

      Genshin has an awful game design, where instead of making few hours of costant good content, does crumbles of good content inside hours of trash.
      It helps to keep the hype high, and the game alive.
      Kinda reminds me of Ubisoft lol.
      Fuck live service games, that's why I prefer games with a proper ending.
      However, I love how gacha systems work: patiently grinding to then pull all in one go is hella satisfying, but everything that revolves around gacha is terrible, microtransactions and bad content...
      Would have gladly preferred if Genshin was a paid game with around 60 costant good hours... but a business model like this doesn't last in China :/

      And that really does say something about the writing doesn't it? Normally in a story you'd see consequences of people's actions. Basic cause-and-effect. You would think that during that Inazuma event that Childe might've even been wanted by the government. Specifically I'm talking about the labyrinth event with Xinyan. And you would think that Raiden might have to go into hiding and retire given the events of the Archon quest. But nothing ever feels like it moves naturally from one plot point to the next.
      Remember Rukkhadevata? They had to write in the story that people would forget about her. Why? That sounds like multiple quests worth of story that they could tap into. But they couldn't be bothered because we just need to get to the next region. Nahida's trauma? Who cares? The fact that this might lead to a possible civil war? Not interesting enough. The fact that this would take us multiple months and story progression that could have been the majority of 2023 is actually astounding. It's astounding because the writers completely squandered it, or perhaps I should say the executive team. Genshin could have a compelling story, but refuses to tell it.

Good job to me I feel like evil or psychotic characters can only be playable if they have a proper redemption arc im just happy Furina isn’t a Archon who’s making life horrible for her people when I mean by that is that she’s not overly opposing them or sentencing them to death The people in Fontaine seem to really have faith in her it’s just her main problem is that she doesn’t know how to properly handle the nation like she’s supposed to so maybe later on in the story, she’ll learn how to do things like that now I want to talk about future redemption arc’s specifically the tsaritsa now it doesn’t really seem like she has done anything bad in fact, I’m pretty sure she’s just in snezhnaya letting the other harbengers do there thing so I feel like she’ll have a proper redemption arc BUT the fact that she’s letting psychotic serial killers with their own motives into other nations causing trouble is honestly just disrespectful to the other archons she really doesn’t have the right to tell murderers to steal take or cause havoc upon the seven nations if I’m gonna be honest if all of the seven Archons ever meet in one place in the archon quest I feel like ei furina and murata wouldn’t exactly at kindly or want anything to do with the tsaritsa with venti zhongli and nahida they two of them knew her before the cataklysm and most likely agree on her opinion of Celestia, just not on her ways of doing so and nahida will probably act kindly to the tsaritsa but will still be cautious. That’s all I have to say.

    Paimon:
    1. She trivializes absolutely everything she comes across. Dialogues that may otherwise be interesting, if for no other reason than because they at least *concern* important events, are rendered completely unbearable because this floating screechy fairy has to rehearse EVERYTHING we just heard in the most infantile anti-humoristic way imaginable. Genshin's storytelling would be about 40% better if they JUST removed Paimon from the game completely.
    2. What exactly is the point of a silent protagonist, if you're going to have Paimon just talk *instead* of you? Normally, a silent protagonist is there because the developers want you to project your own opinions and choices onto the character you're playing. This is completely moot in Genshin because you don't really have a choice in how you want to express yourself, you're just silently selecting Aether's / Lumine's lines. So instead of just having Zach and Sarah actually do their jobs, you have this... thing do all the talking for you; which leads me to the 3rd point.
    3. Not only are we not able to actually take advantage of the silent protagonist, nor do we actually get to feel like Aether / Lumine are real people, Paimon is essentially *forcing* you to have her opinion. The Traveler just acquiesces to whatever Paimon is saying and the entire game bends to whatever Paimon decides for you. So you're sitting there watching the entire game unfold and all the characters relate to you according to how Paimon (mis)represents you because that's totally our shared opinion haha, right Traveller? *Blows your eardrums out from the screeching*
    Paimon isn't just bad, her concept is honestly completely insulting. Hoyo is literally treating you like a baby.

      Okay so.. first thing, Paimon can be annoying and yes the game is forcing you to agree with her BUTTTTT Aether and Lumine are not your normal Silent Protagnists. You think there is a choice in their dialogue but there really isn’t. They have their own personalities and such. Most of the dialogue you THINK to get to choose is really just a pieces of a sentence the traveler said. The Traveler has their own feelings. You can’t project your feelings onto the Traveler because the Traveler IS it’s own character! Just how the other characters in the game are their own characters. The game is basically saying, you’re not part of this story. You are simply spectating Traveler’s journey.

There are exceptions like Isaac Clarke from Dead Space 1 and The Doomslayer who already tells you everything you need to know through his actions and gestures alone (I have never played The Legend of Zelda, so can't have an opinion of Link), but for the most part? Yeah, silent protags in non RPG games just feel dull. Which makes Genshin's "feat" of failure with its silent protag even more impressive because it has role playing elements. That's what happens when you try to "hybrid" Role Playing capacity with giving the videogame's Main Character a defined personality or identity. It just does NOT mesh well and Fallout 4 is right there for proof of it.
      Honestly, they should've just followed the Honkai Impact 3rd route and just have a well established cast of characters or protagonists who do not serve to get detracted by a walking void blanket.

    An important note also is that "backstory" is not the same as "storytelling". Good storytelling is when the backstories of the characters influence the action and consequences of their actions throughout the story, as well as how each characters actions influences each other. Imagine if Game of Thrones had every character doing their own thing and they rarely talk to each other. That's Genhin's story. You're in one bubble then moving on to the next, and each individual events doesn't seem to work towards any collective whole. The ‘limited time event lore drops’ is honestly such a big problem. As most of the characters development comes from those limited events, it doesn’t give them the chance for them to develop properly. I think fischl and monas friendship is BIG proof of that. The fact they were acting so cute together (in a sibling way) in summer fantasia (getting concerned for each other, being playful etc) but in the current Mond event 1. New players could be confused because their friendship was only covered in LIMITED EVENTS and 2. They act like summer fantasia never happened. Which the devs are probably trying not to talk about things that happened in past events, but its really inconsistent. I really hope they improve in the future because the stories were becoming so unbearable (with the small exception of the sumeru archon quests, but it’s still a small step up). That’s just my opinion though

    Imagine having a setup for a great character lore and leave it in the “story” section via text (that you can only unlock by reaching friendship levels aka play the character for weeks and weeks) and do NOTHING with it in the main quest, story quests or even quests. Am I right, Chongyun? A boy with an overwhelming amount of the Yang energy (the energy of the dragon in the Chinese mythology and oh what a coincidence that Chongyun has dragon eyes, pff surely it can’t be implying anything about this guy) and who belongs to the clan of goddamn exorcists who’s been fighting demons alongside Xiao for centuries. Maybe wanna give attention to them? You know, there are a lot of demons in Liyue, could’ve explored a lot about Genshin’s lore. Eyy, remember his aunt? His aunt, Shenhe. The aunt he met in her trailer. What? You didn’t know they are relatives because Shenhe never met her nephew in the game? They didn’t even MENTION each other in any quest? Oh how unfortunate, guess we can’t let them meet, because Chongyun is too busy being a yasmen to Xingqiu’s bullshlt. It’s so important for him to just… stand here with Xingqiu, rarely opening his mouth. Pff this stuff is more important than the conclusion to Shenhe's arc of belonging to human world. Surely her kind and pure relative couldn’t have supported her through her journey of finding her place. This is ALSO more important than exploring Chongyun’s and Xiao's relationship and for Chongyun to finally prove himself to the person he admires and finally let him exorcise an evil spirit making his life’s dream come true. Naaah, clearly not gonna do any of that bullshlt. Let’s rerun Jean’s story quest for 100th time by giving it to Keqing after Ganyu, Kokomi, Noelle and whoever else just had the same story not long ago, that’s where the REAL development at, right? What you didn’t want to see Keqing being overworked once? How about seeing it TWICE?!
    Or okay, you might say that Chongyun is a 4-star, he is not supposed to get that much attention (yeah sure, Xiangling being a star to most Liyue events but okay) let’s have a look at Ayato. You know. The head of the Kamisato clan! You remember him, right? Ayaka’s older brother! Yeah, what about him? What role did he play in the archon quest? Can’t wait to see this dude pulling strings to help us get closer to the Sho-… oh wait. What do you mean he doesn’t appear in the quest at all? Where the hell is he?! The Sakoku decree is still up, where the hell did he go?! Why isn’t he there when his sister needs him? A daughter of the Kamisato family who is supposed to play a big role in the archon quest but she doesn’t do anything aside from sitting on her butt and worrying. Do you like that for your favorite characters? Five star characters no less.
    We have incomplete characters that are intriguing on paper but they never had enough attention or hoyoverse were wasting their screen time to drag the story and not to explore characters. Because why would we flesh out characters that have long-going stories and rich lore when we can drag already finished characters to the point they start getting annoying. Right, Kazuha? Am I right? The dude who was the best written Inazuma character, actually important to the plot, actually completed his arc and became fan favorite? Well why don’t we listen to the story of the Kaedehara clan for three times straight. Why don’t we dedicate this character’s story quest to a fcking sword? We sure couldn’t find a better way to spend our time am I fcking right?!
    I agree with everything you mentioned. Every point hits like a bullet. Too bad we will never be heard. Hoyoverse have too much money to care.

    I feel like a large problem in Genehin's story is definitely the gacha system. The gacha system has to make new characters for people to wish on and because of this random characters that should have (and would have) been important to the story are introduced AFTER major plot events.
    Where in the fuck was Heizou? He should have helped the traveler or done what he could to stop them yet he was introduced and given a random story quest. Itto? Why wasn't he apart of the rebellion? Literally a gang leader why the heck didn't he fight with the resistance especially knowing that he and Gorou know each other. Where was Ayato? Where was Kuki?
    Why wasn't Yelan involved during the Rex Lapis death case? Shenhe? Where was she? Where was Eula during the Dvalin quest?
    So many inconveniences with the story and the characters and that's a major problem in Genshin's storytelling altogether.
    The characters may have an amazing bacstory but a good backstory doesn't equal good story telling.
    I feel like that's a problem in gacha games compared to completed games.

      Its not fully that its a gacha game, its because of the WAY the release their story chapters, it takes a time to make content and assets, and we get parts of the story in little chunks instead of the whole, cohesive story in one go, and as such, some characters only get finished in the middle of the development cycle.
      As another gacha game that does heavy story chapters, look at FGO, releasing bundles of characters and taking 4-6 months between major story chapters.

      out of all the characters you mentioned, only really 3 of them were somewhat explained.
      ayato was supposedly hiding in the kamisato estate, helping (sort of) manipulate the traveler to help them using ayaka. rather than doing things himself, he got thoma, ayaka, yoimiya, sayu, and the traveler to do things for him.
      secondly, heizou is a member of the tenryou commission. from what you can tell from his character, while he doesn’t exactly like kujou sara, she’s still his boss, so he does most things he tells her to. heizou was someone who was enforcing the vision hunt decree, assumably.
      thirdly, itto. this motherfugger. basically what i understand happened to him is that kujou sara yoinked his vision so he started wallowing and harassing the tenryou commission to give it back.

      I had hopes that aether in my case would then become more "evil" not being nice to everyone, regaining the power like said in start of game, with us with each element becoming stronger kits, their interaction often then being selfish and distanced from the twin and we develop a strong own lore....yet...we got nothing....
      worst thing is we still behave like a toddler to our sibling. they are teenagers, they aren't 4. , pardon, teenager body but probably ancient gods. that both twins cling so bad to each other for 3 years is just unrealistic and adds to the unrealistic sibling/writing (only more realistic ones are diluc and kaeya even tho they are no real siblings).

    Honestly, the story has gotten MUUUUCCCCHHHH better ever since chasm. The dainsleif quest was nice, since we interacted with a character that we know and has a backstory, The NPC is actually shown to die (Halfdan) and despite the being very dialogue heavy, it for some reason did not feel like a chore to read through. 2.7 was an upgrade, We got probably the best characterised character (Itto), and Yelan was pretty good, but the rest were just decent at best. But the main thing is, there was actual tension between these characters, for example, yelan vs itto, or yelan vs xiao. We also are SHOWN the backstory of Xiao, and the 5 yaksha's, and xiao 'sacrificing' himself was genuinely a sad moment (Only to be ruined by zhongli). No NPC to talk to, lesser paimon, and a lot of the story was shown, not told.
    2.8, I kinda already forgot what happened, but I remember that fischl and kazuha's domains were amazing, Mona's would have been great if the puzzles weren't annoying, and I already forgot what happened in xinyan's domain. highlight for me was actually kazuha's domain, as the story was told in a more interesting way for me. But it was a downgrade from 2.7 for me.
    3.0, The best patch in genshin's history in my opinion. Absolutely astounding story, we actually hear the traveller speak for like 6 fucking times, There was actual tension and almost a feeling of helplessness, and it felt like we would have come to the same decisions as the traveller did in the story quest.
    The first part did pretty ok, introduced us to two major ports and also hinted towards the growing dispute btw the desert dwellers and the people from the city. It wasn't the best by any means, but the next quest....That was the best quest in my entire history of playing games (That doesn't say much cuz I play only f2p games, but still, it was fucking outstanding)
    Dunyazard was outstanding for a NPC, and the fact that her voice got weaker everyday kind of made you suspect what was going on. This quest actually kept me on the edge of my seat, and I actually cared for the NPC. and Kusanali, My fucking god is she a better archon (in terms of story telling) than literally everyone. She act's like an actual archon, like a person with responsibility over the people of their nation. Zhongli didn't give a fuck, venti just afked litereally every time and helped mondstat only cuz of stormterror and Raiden just casually takes away people's visions. These don't seem like the actions of people with responsibility. What kusanali did, made me feel that she was an archon, unlike the other three. The truth about the samsara was fucking amazing and was hinted at long before, and the traveller thinking on what the truth was felt real and actual. And it made me care for paimon. If a quest can do that, it automatically gets to be the best quest.
    What I think the major problem with Genshin's storytelling is not Paimon, or the limited time events (Those are bad, but I am considering this from a day 1 player perspective), but rather the game somewhat shifting between third POV follow and third POV omniscient. Sometimes, the traveller blurts out information that you had no clue about, and the characters talk to each other as though they have known each other for years. Keep in mind, the latter is how it should be, but not from a Third POV follow perspective. The shift in POV causes huge problems, since sometimes you know what the traveller doesn't know, and don't know what the traveller knows. This is the worst mistake to make in storytelling, never, and I mean NEVER shift your POV when writing a story, or if your shifting, shit it btw characters, not between follow and omniscient. I feel like this is getting better since 2.6, and know has reached a state where it isn't a major problem, but you cannot deny it, when the MC was talking about khaenriah, Most of us were probably like "Wtf is she talking about"
    The story has gotten really good, the lore is so fucking deep that I came within the first push, but the medium in which it is told is disanointing, but has gotten better recently, Nevertheless i'm REALLY excited for the anime, so that it can do the lore and story justice.

      2.7 wasn't an upgrade. Itto did absolutely nothing but clowned half of quest. Itto was just there for the sake of rerun banner. The devs knew Itto was useless there so they had to made him collapsed half way because they did not know how to corporated him to the story any further. And Kuki was there to cooked roast lavender melon LMFAO. .
      And Itto being the "the best characterised character" is total arbitrary non sense. Typical clown character, with kind personality. But his character does fit for 12 yo audience, so that make sense.
      And Halfdan.... 30 seconds of screentime, died 3 minutes later. Nobody cares about Halfdan.
      3.0 was a slight improvement 5.5/10. But I can't really called it an improvement if it was just a fluke. And They chickened out by bringing Dunyarzad back to life after they showed her ghost in the dream. Smh.

      So I think the story has improved...a little. The problem is we've been given HOT garbage for the story and now that they have made the smallest of improvements it comes across as great progress; when in actuality barely any progress has been made. Although improvements are improvements.
      You already forgot what happened in 2.8 huh? Says a lot. Kazuha's domain should have been his story quest. And now, people who haven't played 2.8 won't get to see it. Fischl's is the same. It should have been a quest. As they are now though, it's still not that great. A large chunk of those quests just have audio. Where are the visuals? They didn't bother to make any kind of animation for these stories.
      You've only played f2p games!? Like, you haven't played any game that costs money? Some of those games have the best stories! If you ever do get around to play those you'll start to see why Genshin is not that great.

Heck, during the chasm quest with Xiao, it was nothing but constant talking for the sake of info dumping. My boredom was only ever alleviated because of Itto’s shenanigans.
    And that brings me to my next point but this is more personal. There’s barely any distinction in the personalities or traits between characters with most being characterised as being professional or sensible. Give me ones like Itto who’s always so bull-headed, Hu tao who’s always looking forward to the next funeral or Klee just being Klee; because characters like Yanfei, Ayato, Sara etc. don’t really interest me.

    Holy shit you just made me realise my biggest problem with this game! I just always had so much problem with the dialogue and i didn't know why, but its because as a video game medium they rely too much on dialogue for story telling! It doesn't work because you can't interact with the dialogue much. Also the story would be sooooo much better if the characters INTERACTED with one another. Like i was doing the Beidou and Ningguang quest just waiting for them to meet or just mention one another but it never happened. Why do they not show friend and family relationships! The only time they are ever shown is in archon or event quests. They have such a big pool of characters to do story telling with, but they choose the boring NPCs instead! At this point the stroy became too big and i guess it's difficult to showcase the more important parts because that requires more detail which genshin unfortunatly lacks. I have noticed however that with the addition of Sumeru it has been a bit better and they are taking more "risky" and interesting ideas for story quests which im really looking forward to.

      I'm not sure if Genshin's reliance on dialogue is the problem. Or at least, there's more nuance, since other games do it better. For example, the Yakuza Saga. I fucking love all of the Yakuza games, especially 0 and Kiwami, and if you're not gonna do substories most of your playtime is honestly spent clicking thru dialogue and watching cutscenes. I'm not sure why, but Yakuza does story-focused gameplay really well.

    Sometimes the dialog can be summerized as a college student trying to hit the word cap for an essay. The dialog is so bloated full of pointless repetitive unnecessary filler that its a drag to listen to. The characters often for example take 30 words to describe something that can be said in mere 10. Combine that with how unengaging and how badly written it is at times and you have lots of people not even knowing the story because they can't be bothered to even pay attention, which I don't blame them. I've met so many genshin fans who don't know anything about the story because the most common reason is that they can't be bothered to engage in the story because of how unegaging, stale, and bloated the dialog is at times. This one's more personal but: my God, does EVERY character have to talk like they're speaking out of a thesaurus.

    You know what pisses me off about Genshin's story in Sumeru after watching this?
    La Signora's lore says she used mystic arts she learned from Sumeru to become the Crimson Witch.
    *Dies to Raiden Shogun in Inazuma*
    Scaramouche's lore says he was a puppet created by the Raiden Shogun in Inazuma and felt betrayed by his mother when she seemingly abandoned him.
    *Attempts to become a new God for Sumeru*
    Is it just me, or are their roles and positions in the story quests mismatched? What if Scaramouche attempted to become a New God by tempting the Watatsumi resistance to help him with the Fatui's support so that they in return have a fighting chance against Raiden, and Scaramouche can have a chance to battle his mother over his issues? That would've felt more natural for his arc than having Signora there to run operations.
    This feels like such an obvious decision to make - Scaramouche has an arc in Inazuma, not Signora. Maybe Signora can have a role in Sumeru, but with Dottore in charge as antagonist, I see little room for her to do much in Sumeru. How infuriating.

    At this point I was expecting so little on screen storytelling that I actually got quite surprised when we were given Scaramouche's and Nahida's backstory with the Sumeru quests. I think they could dive into Nahida a little more compared to other archons because she wasn't involved in the Khaenriah massacre. Now about Scaramouche... I used to despise him but now I actually like him because unlike most other characters, we learned more and more about him ACTUALLY IN GAMEPLAY. But it created a problem for Ei in my opinion.
    See, in the lore Yae straight up suggested to euthanize Scaramouche because he would constantly suffer without the gnosis. However Ei set Scaramouche free to let him be his own person. Scaramouche doesn't have this perspective so he feels abandoned by his own mother. (I mean he is right to a degree, they just left him without explaining how humans operate so he perceived a child dying of sickness as a betrayal due to being immortal + having very little grasp of mortality.).
    My main issue is, the audience doesn't properly know Ei's side either outside of written lore. We mostly got Scaramouche's side of the story in gameplay. Since we got so little of Ei's perspective compared to Scaramouche's, it makes Ei look like an asshole to the point of character assassination. They made a huge mistake with not involving her more in his story quests.

    I agree with a large amount of things in this.
    The only thing I strongly disagree with is the notion that Scaramouche’s backstory isn’t in the main story, cuz it actually is.
    It’s just at the end of the Inazuma archon quest where Yae Miko just unceremoniously tells it to you.
    Either way, I feel like Hoyoverse realized a couple of its main problems in storytelling, mainly Paimon being a dialogue repeater, and important lore heavy event quests, as evident by the chasm event quest, and the fact that paimon does seem to be getting better in terms of actual character instead of just repeating info.
    As for the twin travelers themselves. I think Hoyoverse realized early that the goal shouldn’t be finding the sibling, which is why they did the abyss sibling reveal before Inazuma, so that the rest of the story is about seeking what “the truth of this world” is.

    To answer your first question, for those first two months, paimon was teaching the traveller how to speak, understand, read and write the language of teyvat, which they pick up shockingly fast. But they still likely aren't completely fluent, which may influence why they don't talk much.

    • @The1andonlysharpshooter
      @The1andonlysharpshooter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +185

      At that point, they could’ve made some sort of gag about that to explain that away instead of making us assume it could be the case. If you want to learn and get better at a language, the best way to practice is to *speak*. It doesn’t excuse even a little bit why Traveller doesn’t speak.
      If this was the true problem and they make Paimon talk for us because we simply can’t, the way around this could’ve been Traveller still talks, but makes mistakes or has trouble finishing a sentence that Paimon would then translate *in short*, none of that long overdrawn bloated rehashing thats only inserted for 3 yr olds who didn’t get it the first time. And it can’t be a frequent thing either because that would get tiresome fast.
      Then they’d get better with it over time and less of these are needed to the point of even being completely gone by end of Liyue because mind you a lot of months have gone by between prologue and Sumeru. Which would make Traveller speaking up infront of a crowd of people asking about their brother in the climax Liyue’s main story quest all the more...intriguing? Exciting?
      “Finally we don’t need the bobble head anymore” or “Oh wow they spoke in front of a large audience” would be the reaction to this and in terms of genshin storytelling, id take it as a plus. A lot of people learning a new language worry of their tounge/words would be judged especially infront of anyone more than their selective group of friends/acquaintances etc. This gives Traveller a mini character arc and makes them much more relatable and less of a 2 dimensional character, while also giving them more than “My sibling! Please where are they?” and stock image syndrome.
      Paimon can obviously speak a few times but like Heizou said, not as our *voice*.
      Joker from Persona 5 doesn’t speak often, but his option dialogues have a lot of personality in them and thankfully he doesn’t have a floating bobble head next to him.

    Honestly, there's a whole LOT of stuff that irks me beyond the point of no return with the story, but the main offenders to me are Paimon and the sheer amount of dialogue bloat there is. Paimon feels like she's there to constantly keep repeating dialogue unnecessarily and ask pointless questions in a way similar to Solid Snake. There's also a whole lot of unfunny running gags pertaining to her character every time she has to say something, like how she has to reiterate for the hundredth time that she's Paimon and not [Insert rough description of what Paimon is here] every time we meet someone new.
    And then the Dialogue itself feels like it drags on for WAY to damn long like a college student trying to hit the word count for an essay. Its actually pretty similar to the earlier parts of XIV, but at least in that game you can skip the cutscenes if you wanted to. Hell, XIV even tells you in advance if you're about to be stuck watching a bunch of cutscenes one after the other so you can properly prepare for it. Meanwhile, the autoplay button in Genshin actually feels like it's WORSE than just mashing the button to get through, especially when your progress through the cutscene gets halted by one of the Traveler's completely pointless "dialogue options".

    Probably one of the weakest story build ups in my opinion is Teppei's death, a situation like that only works if the player is actually able to interact/see the character enough to build even the slightest connection to the character in question. However, we don't get to see or interact with Teppei enough to build said connection, so using his death as a motivator for the protagonist feels far less impactful as it's not serving as a motivator for the player as well. Teppei was then basically left out from any future elements of the story, basically treated as nothing but a footnote.
    What Hoyoverse most likely wanted to emulate is the emotional moment caused by Haurchefant's death in Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, as he also started as a seemingly minor character, but gradually became more prominent as that part of the story went on until his death. The major difference between the two is that Teppei was not given much time on screen during the Inazuma chapter, whereas Haurchefant was there for most of Heavensward. It wasn't that Teppei was poorly written either, Hoyoverse simply didn't give him or the players the time to build that meaningful connection for a character's death to feel impactful.
    You can't even use the excuse that Genshin Impact is a gacha game to excuse the decline in story, as not only do Hoyoverse's other games (Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai: Star Rail) still have decent stories, other gacha games such as Fate/Grand Order and CounterSide also have well written stories to follow. Whoever is in charge of writing Genshin Impact's story simply got complacent with the game's burgeoning success and started to slack off, and have caused those who were initially interested in the plot (like me) to lose interest in the game as a whole.

    Another gripe I have with this game is how it doesn't use it's medium's strengths to tell its story at all. When I'm playing a game, I want to play through the story, that's how a game should be. Not just cutscenes and info dumps that are tedious to get through and have absolutely no right being in a GAME of all things. If you're just going to tell me everything through text and show me nothing in a medium reliant on its VISUALS, then you should've written a book instead! Granted, that won't fix many of the issues with the story (although could slightly alleviate some) such as plot relevance, but then it wouldn't feel unjustified having to read. Reminder: I play games to *play* them. I read books to *read* them. I watch movies to *watch* them. I shouldn't have to be reading and watching in a medium that requires player interaction-- at least not to the extent where you're honestly 10 times better off telling your story through a different medium.

    The biggest issue is that they tried to make a customized "you" character (the twin we play) but at the same time giving them a look, a story, a background, a character. they pretend we have a choice but we don't. aether treats some nice , way too nice (like xiao), while other characters ARE nice (like lyney) but "omg fatui" and we bash him each time to the ground. but both are 5 stars that are pulled for the same price. Also that they give us little to no lore. Like now in latest event furina, zhongli AND traveler met up and talked about neuvillette. Did traveler ask about khaenriah? did traveler ever ask venti about it ? (venti has as only archon not his second story quest only becasue we dont have a second mond boss, we asked every archon about khaenriah - only venti not) and zhongli told us he has a contract and can't answer us. so why aren't we persistent? why won't we talk about focalors and egeria in front of furina and zhongli? heck we even keep the secret from nahida that her counterpart sacrificed herself IN HER CHARACTER QUEST THAT IS ABOUT THAT YOU SHOULD ALSO FACE BAD THINGS IN LIFE XD)
    i agree with some comments. genshin turns to toddler-mode. paimon destroys almost all scenes with her talking while we have still no voice, people die (jeht killed people in front of paimon and traveler and they are like 0 affected? 0 traumatized?)
    traveler is sus AF and nobody questions them. nobody asks where they come from, which world they visited , what happened to these worlds, what they did before paimon found them (I think still they wait to push it into the anime to milk the cow), we get pulled for khaenriah against celestia without knowing anything at all , we dont question where paimon goes if she disappears etc. etc. etc. obviious questions.
    Like did we EVER ask around about the sustainer at the start? did we now EVER talk about skirk? no, we rather travel to celebrate lantern rite after another nation almost drowned , meet with the geo archon but still don't ask anything.
    That's biggest issue. if they would keep us interested. putting sustainer in, giving each update a tiny scene / cinematic of the abyss twin, of the traveler's background, of the tsaritsa, of sus venti (yeah I still think he is super bad in the end because of istaroth connection). also, istaroth isn't a shade of the phanes/primordeal one. Connected to god of time. all connected to nyx who was the mother of aether and hemera (which I assume is lumine). either hoyoverse grabs really random terminologies or I even assume Aether IS a big god there not even connected to lumine. etc. etc.
    if you read in the wiki you get more info than any main lore related quest gave. often hidden in descriptions on artefacts or items. and this is bad for a game.
    I really liked inazuma as story, and liyue and mond before . sumeru to me was just bad especially with the desert and fontaine was 50/50. people just like over-emotional things ut the pacing of all is bad. the jail one was way too long and not neccessary, the archon quest in fontaine was destroyed by the forced ace attourney copy which was way too long. but they milk the cow with fanservice anyway now. mashing characters together that taking away all sense , copy of pokemon, copy of yugioh, pac man, soccer, etc etc. (but that is not topic of this video)

      @NyxTheBraix 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This has to be the actual stupidest comment I've ever read. The fact that the author of the video likes it pretty much tells me how skewed their standards are and that they just seek validation about the video rather than criticism.
      Let's deconstruct the points one by one.
      About why the Traveler doesn't work as a conduit for the player: While the Traveler is a silent protagonist, they never really were a character that gave agency to the player to begin with. Sure, they had multiple dialogue choices but they barely deviated from what they want to say or feel. We see this manifest even more in Fontaine where the Traveler downright takes control away from the player and begins actually speaking with voice lines about what they feel in regards to the current moment. See, for instance, Neuvillette's Story Quest.
      Abhout why the Traveler is a Dick: Because the Traveler chooses who the fuck he wants to be friends with no matter who you like or not. That's pretty much the simplest answer you can get. The Traveler is a character in and off themselves and they basically choose to trust/distrust character who we clearly see as good or bad. Sure, Lyney's been a nice person to the Traveler, but the previous run-ins they've had with the Fatui certainly skewed their perception of him up until that point. We see the relationship develop further as time goes by and then it becomes an actual friendship by the time the Arlecchino Story Quest hits.
      Why the Traveler doesn't ask the Archons about X: Because they either don't know, don't care, or can't tell the answer. You suggested to talk to VENTI. VENTI. The literal vaguest character in the entirety of Teyvat who can't even speak about his own nation without being A) Wrong or B) A fucking dick. Sometimes both. The Traveler has so much power to actually control the narrative or what questions they can ask without risking the diplomatic relationship they have with their archons. "But the Traveler saved the nation!" I will probably hear. Well, for one, the Traveler saved Liyue and was told by Zhongli that he couldn't speak because of his contract. He did find out the meaning of Fontaine's prophecy but it was Neuvillette who reversed it. His involvement in Sumeru is literally irrelevant because it technically didn't happen.
      Telling Nahida About Rukkhadevata's Sacrifice: The absolute most braindead suggestion I've ever heard that is literally EXPLAINED DURING THE ARCHON QUEST so it's not even a "this is explained in the background" excuse. Rukkhadevata sacrificed herself and was deleted from Irminsul to rid the world from forbidden knowledge. To tell Nahida or anyone about it would be to not only risk bringing forbidden knowledge back into the world (which was close to happening already with Apep's illness) but it also would risk the collapse of the ENTIRETY OF TEYVAT because it would cause a paradox. This was a risk that not even Nahida was willing to take despite bluffing about it to Dottore when she wanted to get information out of him. Despite how essay-like your comment is your reading comprehension is so questionable it makes me wonder if Paimon is repeating her exposition for morons like YOU.
      About the Sustainer of the Heavenly Principles and Skirk: WHAT THE FUCK DOES THE TRAVELER KNOW ABOUT EITHER OF THEM?! We know about both due to the lore dumps in background elements like items and artifacts but the Traveler doesn't. That's the entire point of the Archon quest to begin with since 1.4! When the game starts, the Sustainer is described to Paimon by the Traveler as an "unknown god" and they only say their name. Try telling me how the fuck they will ask that to an archon, let alone an entity that possibly transcends even them.
      I am not even going to talk about your issues with Sumeru or Fontaine because you clearly have the reading comprehension of a toddler. If you can't even understand the main quests themselves even when their important plot points are told to you in very clear text right in front of your face, then what the fuck am I supposed to expect from you?
      Because of TH-cam's lack of notifications regarding comments, it will probably take a long time to see if I ever get responded to this comment. I'm not giving this clown a view just for the sake of checking whether this thread gets answered or not. Just know that I am responding to this comment in particular because you are the embodiment of every commenter in this video and the author themselves. You miss the point of the game, you CLEARLY can't understand the plot points delivered to you, and the nuances that the characters have throughout the course of the story are ignored for the sake of your first Impressions. This screams surface-level bullshit and you guys need to spend less time writing about how bad Genshin's story is and more time reading a book because clearly you haven't done that and saying you have done otherwise is a lie.

    When someone point out Genshin's bad storytelling, I always mention Inazuma especially the half part of it.
    The Sangonomiya Resistance arc wasted Kokomi's potential as perfect plot character. I remember someone in TH-cam Comment section about Hoyoverse making most of the characters goody two shoes and heavily pointed out Kokomi as his/her prime example of a wasted potential.
    They pointed out how it would be better instead if Kokomi doesn't deny that they made a deal with the Fatui and the distribution of Delusions among the ranks. She knows how dangerous Fatui are but she can't help but needed them to win the war. So they distributed Delusions among their ranks. They will win many disputes and struggles with the help of Delusions and The Fatui's support, not fully aware what will happen next that will haunt her for the rest of her life.
    Later on, there is a unknown disease that the bearers of Delusion have become really old and frail(same plot as in the quest) and she will discover that one of her dear friends and Teppei will die because of her own mistake. She immediately ordered everyone to dispose all of the Delusions and cut ties with the Fatui. Traveler didn't know about Kokomi's plan back then and receiving the news that Kokomi somehow has knowledge about what happened, they decided to leave the Sangonomiya Resistance.
    With that, Kokomi feels so regretful because of what happened. She didn't even know if she deserves to be the leader of Watatsumi. But she can't be discourage since there are many people who loves and relies on her.
    They think her story quest should be her redemption arc and owing up to her past mistakes.

    • @kiana4237
      @kiana4237 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's how you know don't actually focus on the story at hand. delusions weren't given to the resistance, some coerced to them like teppei to grant him temporary power without the knowledge of the priestess much just a secret mysterious help because the plan that she never questioned about and the fatui's plan was to prolong the war enough to get the gnosis, they were never in cahoots with the fatui. there's a subplot around this point about delusions and the connections to an unknown sourcer but it was info dumped instead so the lack of tension and progress has been skipped, the only real reason why the 2nd archon quest was bad is because it's rushed storytelling, the pacing was way too bad and It didn't let majority of the characters shine. compared to sumeru and Liyue.
      more on that, the reason why the soldiers managed to reach tenshukaku was because of the help from the yashiro commissions lord Ayato, he's been the one who's kept the fatui in check this entire time because of his hidden scouts, the sangonomiya resistance once again didn't need help fighting to win the war against the tenryou, It was a tactic from the fatui to prolong the war between the raiden gokaden and the watatsumi rebellion before they reach tenshukaku.
      regardless the main focus of the archon quest was Ei and her idealism that would bring down the people. and she's not even the reason for it. it was the fatui manipulating the raiden shogun. all she agreed was the seizing of visions.

    @فهدالدوسري-ح6ض ปีที่แล้ว +21

    This will be a very long chain to read.
    There are 5 main issues I have with the game:
    1 - Paimon: Sure. Make her annoying. Sure. Make her a bully. Sure. Make her a hypocrite. Sure. Make her explain things you already know.
    But why oh why does she have to speak on the Traveler's behalf? This is the absolute worst in both "We Will be Reunited" and Yoimiya's second story quest.
    You finally found your Twin after so long? Guess who does most of the talking. Sorry, talking is an exaggeration. All Paimon does in that scene is repeat things other characters say or state obvious stuff. Instead of having Traveler talk to their Twin.
    Same things happened in Yoimiya's 2nd quest, where she asks the Traveler if they found their twin and how they feel.. And guess who's the one talking like it was her own twin and not the Traveler's. Paimon went as far as to express how the Traveler's currently feels while said Traveler never utters a word.

    • @فهدالدوسري-ح6ض
      @فهدالدوسري-ح6ض ปีที่แล้ว +8

      2 - Contractions: There's a lot of it. And you can't escape it. Oh? Traveler is the enemy of Eternity because having Elemental powers without Vision is an exception and that's bad? Sure. But making exceptions for Kujou Sara, Yae Miko, Ayaka and whoever else to keep their vision is NOT an exception it seems.
      Oh? Nahida managed to help Traveler defeat Scaramouche who was in a giant mecha powered by a Gnosis mainly by trapping him tempoailry in a samsra of her own? Too bad she can't do the same to the Doctor and apparently she can't fight despite helping to take down a mecha few mintues ago.
      Speaking of which.. In Wanderer's Story Quest, it was stated that without the mecha he would die.. But guess what? He's fine and dandy, not even showing any signs of damage.

    • @فهدالدوسري-ح6ض
      @فهدالدوسري-ح6ض ปีที่แล้ว +8

      3 - All Gnosis go to the Fatui: Let's face it. They pull awful excuses and poor reasons to force the Fatui to get a Gnosis every single time. They don't even try to pull a middle where Traveler or another side keep the Gnosis.
      Somehow, Signora managed to one shot Venti.. An Archon.. And stole his Gnosis in one go.. Sure. Venti is not as powerful as he used to be because he wasn't seen in a while, but he's still an Archon. He's still miles stronger than a human witch.
      If you're gonna argue that Venti was weaker than that, I would like to remind you that Nahida, who wasn't seen in 500 years, one whose people don't even acknowledge her existence, managed to beat a far stronger Harbinger who was powdered up by both a mecha and the Gnosis of another Archon.
      Zhongli made a very stupid deal. But a deal is a deal. So it'll pass why he handed it over so easily. (The deal was probably plot convenience)
      Yae Miko, Lady Guuji.. Simply handed over the Electro Gnosis on a silver plate to Scaramouche. Even though she was hyped up to be very powerful.. She stated that she could dispose of him without even Ei noticing. Surely she'll be able to at least knock him out and save Traveler. But no, Fatui gotta have them Gnosis.
      And Nahida's a joke.. Like I stated.. The one who managed to both help beat a puppet in a mecha powered by a Gnosis apparently can't take on some Fatui harbinger who is SAID (not proven) to be as strong as a God.. The one who sent Scaramouche into a samsara without him realizing apparently can't do that to the Doctor. Why? Fatui gotta get the Gnosis.
      And again.. Why can't she keep it? Why can't someone else keep a Vision for once?

    • @فهدالدوسري-ح6ض
      @فهدالدوسري-ح6ض ปีที่แล้ว +7

      4 - A-Hole Traveler: some Characters tend to be awfully inconsistent, but the worst example has to be the Traveler.. They started from being a pure hearted hero into a greedy, mean, and sometimes evil protagonist. From threatening to kill and torture Saimon Jirou over a treasure that didn't belong to them all the way to making it clear that they didn't give a damn about Enkaominya, and that all they cared about was whatever treasures it had.
      And my God are they such a hypocrite. They shame Venti for assuming he illegally smuggled himself into Inazuma which again.. Just some accusation they threw out of nowhere.
      But when Venti calls them out on their hypocrisy, stating that it was they who came into Inazuma illegally, suddenly "No need to bring the past!"
      Which makes me wonder.. Traveler and Venti started on the right note, why are they such a dick to Venti lately? Sure, Paimon is one to just bully everyone. But for reasons unknown, Traveler just loves to disrespect the two who showed them nothing but respect. The other being Itto.

    • @فهدالدوسري-ح6ض
      @فهدالدوسري-ح6ض ปีที่แล้ว +10

      5 - Narrow-minded Traveler: this is another poor aspect of writing.. The reason the Traveler was stuck in Ritou was because they refused to help Ayaka. Why? Apparently the Traveler didn't say they would help.. And due to that, they were stuck in Ritou for an extended period of time, forcing in more fetch quests.
      Then you finally meet Ayaka who makes a deal.. You try to help, she'll set up a meeting for you with the Electro Archon.. You know, the reason you came here in the first place. But Traveler refuses again for no reason, despite it aligning with their goal.
      But it doesn't end there, for some reason the Traveler tend to have such a narrow-minded view, especially against the wrong people.
      One example is the Skeptical from Sorush's world quest, who wanted to get back at the Akademiya for banishing them and falsely shaming them in history.
      Traveler's response? "tHiS Is jUsT SpEcUlAtIoN"
      The people who locked up their Archon, tried to replace her, held down the land in a tyrant manner, and did some immoral human experimentations on innocents that they knew would die?
      Nah. They would never do such a thing.

    Honestly, the thing with traveller that I am really frustrated by is that mihoyo/hoyoverse can't seem to make up their mind over whether they want a silent protagonist or an actual speaking character protagonist. Silent protagonists can work well, (look at Link in BOTW for example). But for genshin, traveller is neither a silent protagonist or a talking one. They don't speak at all in quests, then suddenly speak a line or two, which makes you wonder why the hell they weren't speaking before (ie. end of liyue archon quest).
    Funnily enough, they speak so seldomly in story quests, but in their profile voicelines, they are shown to have so many thoughts and opinions on events. They speak and converse with paimon so much and they have a personality!! Why isn't this side of traveller shown in the main quests? They have dialogue options, yes, but all of the options have little consequences. Dialogue choice one and dialogue choice two either info dump knowledge that traveller shouldn't really know about, or is a random comment that only changes the next box of dialogue.
    Personally, tere's nothing wrong with having dialogue choices that don't affect the story. I guess it's impossible to do a multiple ending type thing with a game like genshin. BOTW does this dialogue option thing with Link as well. However, the implementation of dialogue boxes along with the silent character trope makes it seem that genshin originally wanted the player to 'be' the traveller. But they keep switching between that and making the character have a voice.
    Was it cool to hear aether talk in my play through of liyue's archon quest? Yes. But it came so out of nowhere and was so inconsistent that it breaks immersion. Although Sumeru's archon quest was a lot better than previous archon quests when it comes to fleshing out traveller; why does traveller only speak when they are trying to figure their thoughts on what is going on? The game's treatment of traveller and their ability to speak is so inconsistent that it honestly detracts from the game. I just don't get what mihoyo/hoyoverse is trying to do with traveller and I feel it would be so much better if they just made up their minds on whether traveller should be a silent protagonist to self insert yourself into, or an actual legitimate character with feelings and opinions. If Paimon DIDNT talk over traveller, I honestly would have no idea what traveller would be saying.

    I actually like to think of Genshin like the movie "Free Guy" where you are the "Guy" and you have all these amazing things that happen around you and hear about...but it's not part of YOUR story. Despite being the main character you are just a NPC listening to other people's lives. The fluff and droning on by other characters is painful AF. Except in Free Guy the NPC's realize they are just that but Genshin never does, you are just there to fulfill fetch quests for little pieces of poorly written story.
    edit thank god you pointed out the stale cut scene animations, a true hero.

    Yeah, the show don't tell part is what is really messing Genshin up imo. I really started to notice during the second golden apple event that most of the characters already went through their struggles. Bedou battles a great leviathan, Kazuha already lost his families fortune AND lost his none NPC friend, Diluc leaving on a long journey after his dads death, ect. We meet them once they've already passed most of their struggles so you're left with a character who doesn't really have anything new to add to the story. I get some things had to be before you met them but for the most part it feels like you as Lumine/Aether don't really create a strong bond outside of the whole "They love you just because you're the main character" trope.

    On that tangent of Diluc's skin event, remember when you just had to find a random brick in the wall above a building that just casually drops Kaeya's pretty damn crucial background as a descendant of royal regents of Khaenri'ah? Arguably the most important nation to find lore about in the entire game considering how many important events happened there during the Cataclysm?

    Inazuma ticked me off. The people experienced traumatic bloodshed by their archon and it just seems like the war didn't mean anything. Yes, I get the meaning and theme around how terrible war is, but I would think the people would at least be against Raiden still for many years to come, hell, maybe the whole existence of Inazuma itself. Your own god, your own leader, was mass murdering your friends and family and basically taking away their ambitions if they don't fight back. The outcome? There she is, hanging out on top of the shrine with her pet fox. Sure, she may have 'changed' and worked to remove the eternity she implemented due to her grief.
    But it means nothing. The soldiers you worked with don't have much to go back on, and the most baffling part is that Ayato, who's supposed to be a major player in the war, only shows up in a unlockable story quest. Why is his sister playing more of a part, and why do we have to push through her story quest along with Yomikya just to get through the story? After Liyue, I cared little for the archon quests after. The characters are just there for gacha pulls at this point, and they barely have anything worth putting down.
    Ex. Seriously? An army struggles against fireworks?

    As a honkai player i have a completely different view, genshin story telling is basically another honkai storytelling but a bit worse.
    Hoyoverse has this quirk where the quality of their content is inconsistent, sometimes its bad sometimes its good.
    Sometimes they wanted to up the quality, sometimes they wanted to risk it by trying new experimental things.
    I dont take genshin storytelling and gameplay seriously because of this.
    The only thing i take seriously is their art and lore because its pretty consistent and good.

    To explain Signora's appearance in Inazuma, I believe it was mentioned somewhere that her being there was some sort of breach in protocol. She and Scaramouche are supposed to be working together. For example, ij your quest to leave Ritou Village, it was mentioned that the head of the Kanjou commission was in correspondence with her. It's a sort of divide and conquer situation where Signora will be in charge of the main Inazuma faction and Scaramouche will be covertly supporting the rebellion. However, she WAS supposed to work behind the scenes and was not supposed to directly confront the Shogun during that confrontation in 3.1

    • @MihaeldiAngelo
      @MihaeldiAngelo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I would kinda have to disagree. In order for it to be a behind the scenes operation, Ei wouldn't simply come out and tell us the VHD was conceived by the Fatui. Nor would Signora go to the Hiiragi clan to specifically task them with stopping us from getting off Ritou. Scara said it best, he wasn't the mastermind behind this--the person he was working under was, which in this case was Signora.
      Now, what wasn't supposed to happen was Scara getting the Gnosis from Miko. That's what foiled her plan. Cause so far, as the only Harbinger actually collecting Gnoses, the safest bet is to go directly to the Archon for it. If Scara told her that he had it, she would've never went to Tenshukaku to talk to the Shogun. Nor would we intercept her meeting and literally get her killed by challenging her to a duel before the throne.
      Arlecchino wasn't wrong for getting upset that Pantalone and Pulcinella were sittin pretty at home instead of doing dirty work like Signora to achieve the Tsaritsa's goals.

      @@geosustento8894 I gotta disagree. Behind the scenes means you not making appearances, you're pulling the strings. A prime example is when we were going to storm Tenshukaku. Agents were sent to negotiate assistance from Ayato. That's behind the scenes. Scara being a passive observer, "following orders" while the grunts distribute Delusions to the Watatsumi forces and the Tenryou Commission, that's behind the scenes cause she's not the one walking up and doing it.
      Going to the Kanjou Commissioner (literally one of the three heads of the human leadership under the Archon) and telling him to stop a blonde traveler with a floaty companion from leaving Ritou at all costs, that ain't behind the scenes, that's making a statement to ensure your other plans aren't ruined.

    • @geosustento8894
      @geosustento8894 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MihaeldiAngelo a few things:
      1) "behind the scenes" doesn't automatically mean you're not going out. For example, while we haven't seen Ayato before his release, we know from dialogues that he's actively working as the Yashiro commissioner while also working with the rebellion behind the scenes.
      2) That's the breach in protocol that I mentioned before. I think what they meant when it was implied that Signora wasn't supposed to be there was that she was not supposed to directly confront Ei.
      3) The Kanjou and Tenryou Commissions were both in collusion with the Fatui and are manipulating the Shogun on their behalf. So yes, working with them and making sure the Traveler doesn't leave Ritou IS working behind the scenes.

    • @MihaeldiAngelo
      @MihaeldiAngelo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geosustento8894
      1. I didn't say not going out. I said pulling the strings, which is exactly what Ayato did. He was doing his job and most likely using the Shuumatsuban to keep in contact with the resistance.
      The Harbingers are definitely clandestine with diplomatic relations as far as what we've seen. Grunts do their dirty work, just like for Ayato, the Shuumatsuban is his covert network doing his bidding where he can't. That's why I say she isn't behind the scenes, she did it in Liyue. If she actually wanted to throw us off properly, she could've had Scara handle that meeting instead, but she didn't.
      2. What exactly are you referring to when it comes to "breaking protocol" cause the only thing close to that was Capitano's comment on her honor being "tarnished" due to her methods. Which I don't fell holds much water. Her meeting the Shogun was not a confrontation. Our interruption turned it into a confrontation. Like if we were removed from the equation, it would've been a simple talk, they showed us that they had no issue with each other. The Shogun reprimanded her for "disciplining an Inazuman" and Signora immediately apologized.
      3. I don't disagree with you there. I'm not saying that her plans were bad and not behind the scenes. I'm saying her actions and how she did them, was not behind the scenes. Again, the fatal flaw was not having that conversation with the Kanjou Commissioner either done by a grunt or Scara which would throw us off, or somewhere more private where people not in the conversation couldn't hear. Cause once someone not involved in a secret knows a secret, it's no longer a secret.
