Perhaps younger people don't realise that Spike was born in India, raised in India, went to school in India and mixed with ordinary Indian people, he spoke several Indian languages fluently and had no hint of racism in his body, he did it because he was a comic writer and he thought it was funny - now put that in the curry!

@@pauljordan4452 it's a stupid argument I mean some black people like to refer themselves as n****** but a lot don't so because of one person's f***** up view don't expect it's not going to offend at least a few people justifiably or don't bother getting into comedy. As someone with Indian blood I don't find it particularly offensive but I don't find it really that funny either if you're going to go cliche go all out or don't bother imo

So invariably it was often offensive, usually to some that think they know who should be offended and when those who 'should be' usually weren't😉....but this is brilliantly funny. Still, you can actually be funny without offending anybody. It's called talent.

I met him once, he was an absolute comedy genius. Who'd have thought a sketch about Pakistani Daleks would leave viewers in tears? Spike was all about fun and laughter. His humour wouldn't go down well today, especially with those who have made a career out of being outraged and offended. Show some of his sketches on TV now and 1000s of people would be having a touch of the vapours....!!!

Nobody disallows finding something funny, but you can tell quite a lot from those that find old fashioned racism humorous. This needs the context of systemic and socially accepted racism to be passable, and the line "now you can tell what's wrong with the country" is quite telling about the comparison of Asians to Daleks.
It's just not funny any more. People grow, mature and realise that this really shouldn't have been funny in the first place. The only excuse is that they were simpler times where the public were shielded from the vast majority of awfulness rather than having social media bring said awfulness to the door. Let's face it, this is the same era that Jimmy Savile was still a hero of the people. It's OK to realise that maybe we're laughing for very wrong reasons.
I used to laugh at Spike Milligan, have lots of memories of laughing at his skits, and when I look back at his and other comedians at the time it's distinctly unsettling and cringeworthy based on more modern and enlightened views informed by the parties at the butts of the jokes. I know it's an awful feeling that we're being judged as bad people for laughing at something we enjoyed, I know *exactly* how that feels, being from the same generation and laughing at the same jokes at the time. But with a choice between realising, acknowledging the perpetuated hate it contributes to, or doubling down and defending the innocence in which we originally found it funny, doubling down just means you want to ignore the issues and still feel OK about it, which also means that colours the views of those that choose not to.

Enabled many who shouldn't have to breed excessively, as did colonisation.
But were funny, could laugh at themselves and others without being so much better as the button pushing influenced gender diverse woke entitled generation mostly can't.

I remember seeing this skit once years ago, my old man was a fan of The Goons and SPike Milligan when I was a kid. I do enjoy seeing again the strange eccentric humour of groups like The Goons, or Monty Python. Pity people have to analyse anything thats posted on youtube, just enjoy it for what it is :)

Not PC, but that was Spike Milligan, it was a type of comedy of it's era.

'this sketch is one of the best bits of Brit comedy ever, I still use the words "PUT IT IN THE CURRY" when the occasion arises'

Odd. Ealier today, when I was in our kitchen and I had my phone in my pocket and we were looking after next door's dog for a few hours, I said of the dog, "Put him in the curry". No one got the reference. But now a few hours later I check my YT recommended and this shows up for the first time in years...

Very encouraging to NOT see any namby pamby PC-ness going on in these comments. Great that everyone sees the humour in it.
PC brigade and do-gooders can stick that up their arses!!
Long live Spike Milligan. 😊 😊
