Mine is 3 years old and still going strong. Admittedly I’m not real hard on watches but from normal wear I can say mine hasn’t missed a beat, one of my favorite watches.
I agree, don't limit yourself to one brand . I have the following : Casio( G-Shock and illuminators), Timex( expeditions and Ironmans), Luminox( Navy seal), and Victorianox swiss army( INOX, Infantry and original), Marathon( pilot, and General) etc. All very durable.
My Luminox goes through a battery about every 9 months. The second hand fell off after about a year. It was still under warranty so they fixed it at no charge. Still wear mine but I don't trust it completely. If I'm going into the woods, whether I'm backpacking or mountain biking, I wear a Protrek. The thing that keeps me wearing my Luminox is that I love the tacticool look to it.
Wow, sorry to hear you've had such a bad go with yours. My two are going strong and I've worn them everywhere from in the ocean to the shower. I've actually beat on them pretty good and they've been subjected to OC (pepper spray) on a couple of occasions too. I guess only time will tell but for now they seem to be doing the trick. Maybe I'll do another review video in a few years to follow up😀
My 3001 is 18 years old. I replaced the battery some time in 2018, i think I paid $250 back then. The bezel numbers are a little worn off around the 12:00 and 6:00, and the bezel itself has a couple of scratches; but the glass is intact and the Tritium is still visible in the dark, although not as bright anymore, of course. The original velcro strap is long gone as is the replacement. These days it sports a black and red nato nylon strap. I beat the crap out of this watch thru the years and never failed. Awesome watch, definitely worth the money.
I have 4 of them. My favorite is the Ultimate Navy Seal Chronograph 8102. I have worn it 90 percent of the time for 10 years now. It is all stainless with a saphire crystal. It is built like a tank. I have knocked it around and dropped it numerous times. I finally did break the stem but the Luminox service center fixed it for only $130 including new battery and seals. More recently I bought the Navy Seal 3254. Again it is all stainless with a saphire crystal and it is equally tough! The reason I love these watches is simple. When it is dark, I can always tell time. They always glow! And I never have to worry about taking them off no matter what I am doing. Are they an investment? I do not care as I have no plans of selling mine.
Great review dude. They do quote 25 years approximately of lume life. The way I see it, 1/2 life every 12 years means - 100% at purchase, 50% at 12 years, 25% at 24 years, 12.5% at 36 years and 6.75% at 48 years. I’ll let you know what 12.5% looks like, but my nephew will have to tell you what 6.75% looks like. 😉
I have 4 different model of Luminox watch, I like the light weight compare to mudmaster, but one time after some pistol match, the secondhand and minutehand fell off. I am still wearing it for everyday use, but if I am out in the field mudmaster is a must go.
My two still seem to be holding strong but I've only had them for about a year so I still can't give them quite the time-tested endorsement I would give to my old G Shock that served me well for years. I do really like these Luminoxes though. Might have seen a lot of Trigger Time and seem to be holding up okay so far. Were you able to send in yours for repair under warranty? Happy shooting, and thanks for the comment.
I have a Luminox Sentry SL which I bought it 2014. I love it and have taken care of it and never used doing something potentially dangerous to the watch. It looks good and has great nighttime lume. But a few weeks ago it suddenly stopped. I changed the battery but it turned out that the watched has just expired! Not happy and would probably buy another but just not sure about their longevity.
The metals that watches are made out of can rust, which means they are not waterproof, but the watch is designed to resit the ingress of water. This applies to even the most expensive watches in the world.
Anything you spend money on and expect it to work for an amount of time is an investment. I have a particular luminox watch I bought for $350 and is now worth $2200. So yes. They are an investment.
The full stainless steel case models are much better. Of course, they have much better sapphire crystals on them too, which are truly hard to scratch. However, they will cost you almost twice as much.
Tritium tube are just super cool. I have a 2006 Marathon still glowing like a champ. Good luck finding replacement tubes cuz I need some for a Seiko Build
I just can't hate on Luminox. Everyone seems to want to, but I can't. I've had mine for 4 years now and it's been banged to hell. It's been dropped, slammed into brick posts, dropped in mud, etc. It's been sent in to have the crystal replaced once and asked them to check for any other damage (after all the drops and hits) and they reported a clean bill of health. I do think it's a little cheesy they keep using the military backround as a sales point. I don't believe they ever were a legit contractor for the military, and not a lot of soldiers or SEAL's really wore them. Marathon and G shock have had more prevalence than Luminox ever did in military use. But, they are good watches. I love mine.
I have had a few of the Luminox higher end watches. Have the Modern Mariner now. Rugged pretty much. Love the Tri tubes and the only reason I won't go Seiko anymore. I use the Tri Tubes during the night all the time.
I have had a couple of G shocks and they're very reliable but a pain to set. I've had a Luminox sentry for a few years but don't wear it all the time. I also have a few Timex watches and thus far all work well. Just got the MK1 Timex which I really like but the looks of my Luminox is better but quite a lot more in price. No watch war here, just get what makes you happy and meets your needs.
I've had 3 luminox watches. And I actually do like them, but.... for the price you pay for them, they can be a lot more durable. The first one I had, the minute hand fell off. The band had to be replaced a few times also. Those rubber bands are crap. The second watch, band issues again. I'm on my third luminox and same thing with the rubber band, sooo I got a NATO strap. In short, I do like those watches but the band needs to be improved.
This is very typical of rubber watch bands, same thing happened to my Victorinox and Seiko 5 watches while working. Spray with 303 or other, they are susceptible to UV rays, dirt, soap, they dry out.
I have Lumi 3080, had it for about 9+ years, still glows, time needs to be adjusted about once every two years by about a min, battery lasts over a year, it's my daily work watch (I have a desk job). I never took it under water, ever. Today I walked my dog during a light rain (with an umbrella), just looked at the time and see that there is fog under the glass. Oh well, so much for water resistance.
Sorry to hear that. I swim with mine all the time and I've never had a single issue with either one. As a matter of fact it's raining pretty good today and I'm planning a hike with a friend and a bit of shooting out in the woods. Sounds weird that yours had that issue. You should have gotten a verification card with the watch if purchased from an authorized dealer to ensure that it wasn't a clone. I would contact your nearest authorized dealer and have that authentication card handy and you should be able to get it fixed. It's at least worth a try my friend.
No reason for you to be sorry, you are not the person who made the watch but thanks! The watch is authentic, no question there but the warranty is 2 years and mine is over 9. I still use it daily (my office is dry!) just have to remove it before wet situations and switch to a different watch. One of these days I might send it the manufacturer to see what they quote me to repair the seals on it.
i have the same problem. each replacement is easily 10% of the cost of the watch . And each time, it is the same tear near the buckle. I guess that is how they make money.
@@ramblinrussell That's what I did. Strapsco have great ones. Cheaper than Luminox and they don't brake. Some of them even look better than the OEM ones.
FirearmTutorials .com there you go! I say never ever let an original strap be a deal breaker because it’s easy to change which can enhance the look or make it look like a different watch all together and you can at times improve the comfort and quality as well.
@The Maineiacguy I own G-Shocks for many years. I lover their durability, look and fucntions. One of the best things about them is the size. I have large wrists, so i prefer bigger watches. But the thing is, having a watch with so many functions is cool, but in the end, you will only use them to tell time. I´ve owned, and still do so many G´s, Mudmasters, Mudman, Rangemans etc...But everytime i look at Luminox watches i fall in love. Are they really worth it ? Do they look small on the wrist ? Thanks.
In my opinion, yes these watches are definitely worth the cost. I've now had mine for a couple years and they are still going strong. No, they don't appear small on the wrist but they are much lower profile and, due to the carbon fiber ( carbonox) used in many of the models, they also feel much lighter on the wrist as well. As I say in the video, you'll never hear me say anything bad about Gshocks as they are great watches but I am definitely a luminox guy now. These two Luminox's have been great to me and I live them both. Good luck, and thanks for watching the video my friend.
How do you find the watches after a few years? Been wearing a colourmark for about 9 years and the vial on the crown broke after couple of months (which makes it useless for diving) and the strap though felt very premium broke after about 6 months and replacement prices are quite high. For myself I went back to Casio, way cheaper and longer lasting.
Actually here is a link to a follow-up video that I did along with the close-up look of the Looms after a few years and a pretty decent submersion test. th-cam.com/video/utFfpOvZfpA/w-d-xo.html Both of mine are actually still going strong. I HAVE had to replace the strap twice on one of them but the other has a much more robust band that has never had to be replaced. These watches have just held up great for me. Thanks for watching and have an amazing day.
I have always had G-Shock and really love those for how well they hold up. I got a Luminox Black Ops and so far so good . I really like how light the Luminox is. I haven’t been super impressed with the tritium but they are visible enough.
I just got a replacement 3001 for one that got lost in a move a few years ago. I was sad to have to replace it, the lume was only halfway through it's lifespan when I lost it 😔.
Nice review. I'm in possession of luminox 30th year anniversary. I live in Europe and wanted a watch you didn't see much. I have had another brand for 23 years now and never come across it (pequignet). Hope he lasts that long.
i have 11 watches 3 of those are luminox...including 3050...f117 ...and the recon pointman.of all tose 3 i love there recon 8822...very stylish but tough.it has nice rubber bracelet.
I bought 3 of the 3000 series, one yellow, one red , one orange . The orange one stopped working after 2 years, replaced the battery and still a no go . The yellow and red work after 2 battery replacements over the years I have owned them , but the bands are broke, I think they use cheap materials on there bands. So the next thing is they use tritium for illumination and it has a max life of 4-5 years of illumination then it’s just an arm peace .. in reality Luminox is a 50.00 dollar watch at best .. I am going to put new bands on the yellow and red one and taking them to the pawn shop , hopefully I can get some money out of them
Dang, what a bummer, especially for a 300 or so dollar purchase a piece. Fingers crossed that mine hold up. They are still going strong. And tritium has a half life of 12.3 years so the vials should be visible for about 24 years before they completely die. Same basic deal with any tritium weapon sights. Take care, and best of luck. I'm sure you'll be able to sell them as they seem to be increasing in price even for the older ones.
I have the Black Out with the carbon band. Love the watch but the crystal cracked which can happen to any watch. My complaint is it doesn't keep time, loses about 5 minutes a day. Debating having it fixed, buying another Luminox or different brand.
Dang man. Sorry to hear your having so many issues. Mine are still going strong a couple years in. Actually, I'm thinking about doing a follow up video this summer and REALLY putting them to the test. If it were me, I'd look at getting it repaired but either way, best of luck man.
I have a G Shock, It's great quality but I find it too bulk, and considering i have smaller wrists. It just doesn't look right. I'm considering this Luminox as I'm a fan of the smaller look. Hope the quality holds up.
My two are still going strong and I love em both. They are a much thinner profile than my old G shock was and they are a lot less "busy" of a watch as I guess, which I like. Thanks for watching.
My G shock is solar powered and radio controlled, never runs out of battery, always accurate to the second, and has wrist flip automatic illumination. It’s 120 dollars. Way better deal than this Luminox watch.
Hey thanks for the comment. You'll definitely never hear me knock a Gshock. As I said in the video I wore one on duty for about 14 years before getting into a Luminox. I've got to say though I definitely love these two Luminox. They seem to be every bit as strong as a G-Shock and I love the visibility at night and in low light situations. Thanks for the comment.
Fred Fang G shock isn’t the only tuff watch in town, don’t limit yourself to one brand! These tritium tubes are way way different than any lighted watch dial or glow in the dark paint , much cooler than that! Video tritium tubes with a black light to see what they look like in the dark with your eyes adjusted to the dark! That’s a very nice watch not near as big and ugly as a g shock ! Look at armourlite watches also!
I've owned quite a few Casio watches over the last 30 years, including two G-Shocks. Eventually they all ended up in the trash heap after a few years service. I also own five Luminox watches - two of which I have owned since 1996 (22 years). All of them are still running, they are in excellent condition, and they have never malfunctioned. I love my collection of Luminox watches. My Casios? Meh, not so much.
Luminox needs to do away with those crap spring bars on the straps..Ive had my lumi watch fall off 3 times, once from 30 foot up a tree while hunting..They need to start putting screw on bars on the straps like Reactor does..Thats what I have now is the Reactor Gryphon watch..BadAss and way better than luminox..
“Cheap Timex” LML it’s the reference we understand ;-P Lovely review, and I’m testing one loaned to me as I need to understand to why they cost the price they do. So far pictures don’t do them justice, and in the short time I’ve been using it, I’m impressed. I’ve worn it more than I thought, and find it practical for most occasions. Great fit and that rubber doesn’t make my wrist soggy with sweat ;) Will do a follow up video later and really show my thoughts then. It’s really nicely made, and cheap it isn’t, and understanding how that Carbonox is made, really puts sense on it all. Cheers for your review ;)
Thanks man! I look forward to seeing your video. My two are still going strong and I'm intending on doing a follow up video as well next spring and possibly doing a submersion test in a local lake. Should be 👍 Take care my friend and thanks again for the kind words.
@@TheMaineiacguy When you do, you’re welcome to share on my channel... I’m at this moment thinking to actually share your video on my follow up video, but may just share it on my community page... your channel certainly lacks subscribers and you deserve so many more my friend... cheers for the reply ;)
@@TheMaineiacguy Have just posted on my community page with a link to this video... you never know, a few may have interest in your guns and other informative videos... am always trying to support fellow channels that are young like us, and your video was really good especially for my ongoing research... cheers :)
To be honest both of mine are still going strong. Actually if you look at my videos over the past few years you'll see I'm wearing one of these two watches in every video I do. Since I literally wear one of them everyday no matter what I'm doing. I know there's been a lot of mixed bag reviews on them but as far as mine go they've been spot-on thus far. Definitely a little expensive but as I say so far they've been worth every penny for me anyhow.
Yeah luminox watch is durable but not durable as g shock, luminox watch feels like a watch toy on the wrist and i think its overpriced watch, better go for apple watch, a 40$ g shock square is a lot better ang tough compare to this
I owned one for 3 years. Battery life sucks, the bands wear out fast, and gets condensation just by having my hand out the window while driving in a cool day. Still a watch that gets compliments but I ended up going with g shock.
Definitely nothing wrong with a G shock man. I am still on the original battery on both of mine and haven't experienced the fogging problem. I have gone through one band on the 3000 series though . Thanks for watching and for the comment. Take care, and have an awesome day!
Water proof vs water resistant is not a marketing thing. Water proof means it won't let any water in, in such cases as you have demonstrated with the water bowl. On the other hand, water resistant means they can take a dive i.e. handle the water preasure when diving, in order to keep their water proof while under. ;)
Well, these are marketed as dive watches and a few folks have done videos of SCBA diving with the Navy Seal Colomarks (which these are). That being the case, I was curious about the "water resistant to 200 meters" tag and that's just what I found in researching it.
Watches aren't marketed as waterproof because they will never technically be completely waterproof. If your "waterproof" watch is subjected to deep enough water, or especially depth and the additional forces of being moved around, the watch's waterproofing will fail. Just because it's referred to as water resistant doesnt mean it can't remain waterproof to a reasonable depth. If you actually dive you might know that these shouldn't be used as a true dive watch. However, I own two Luminox and love them. I can wear them in basically any water I want and never have to worry about them. Shower, easy. Pool, no problem. Body surfing, still not worried a bit. If I can be in any depth of water naturally I'm not worried. Past that though I would.
@@domi69ify and yet even if you look up their $1,000 or $690 dive watches they're still only rated as WATER RESISTANT to 500 meters. These the metal ones that are advertised specifically for diving. Not that it really amounts to much for me as, you say, I'm not a diver ( though there are a couple videos out there of people SCBA diving with these same watches). While I spend a lot of time in the ocean I don't dive. Most of my torture testing has to do with extreme cold, the shock of climbing mountains, the shock of shooting, and tactical type situations at work, swimming, etc. For these things, I have never had so much as a hiccup with these watches. Anyhow, thanks for the comments and have an amazing day.
So a 200 meter dive watch is not a proper dive watch, and just some clarification on resistance vs "water proof". Something might be 100% waterproof at surface pressure, but leak at 5 or 10 meters. So water resistance is always contingent on depth and corresponding pressure. 300M or more is a proper dive watch for recreational scuba. This is because if you slap your wrist down hard on the surface, jet skiing for instance, you could easily exceed the water resistant ability of a lesser watch. So they need to be overbuilt to some degree. Again, conventional wisdom is 300M or greater of resistance is a dive watch. For something marketed as "search and rescue" with some exposure to water at shallow depths, a 200M watch is appropriate. Cheers
@@TheMaineiacguy you are correct. Even my Shearwater dive computer that has no other purpose in life but for use diving, still has a resistance rating.
They don't have a screw down crown, they have one jewel movements. They are toys and are bought from effective marketing. If you want a real tough watch get a g-shock or a seiko marine master 300.
No watch is waterproof, fyi. The cases are not carbon fibre; Carbonox consists of carbon long bars or carbon powder in varying percentages depending on the model, which is fired in a kiln until hardened. They are not stronger than steel, only six times lighter in weight. I have an assortment of professional divers, and Luminox timepieces that do not feature screw-down crowns or pushers and screw-down case backs are not to be trusted in water. Of course, swimming in a pool, or at the beach is certainly within the wheelhouse of these models you have. However, accidentally actuating a pusher, or snagging a crown while in water, is a death stroke for the Ronda movement contained within the case. Be careful not to drop them, due to the propensity for the tubes to unseat themselves and even shatter within the case. It, sadly, happens all the time. Having said all that, I own a Luminox 3580 BO, so I don't want you to think I'm just trolling the brand.
I’ve been collecting watches now for about 4 years. I have roughly 6 g-shocks (as there my favourite) but I think luminox is a bit to pricey. P.s the maineguy I’m a big Steven King fan!
The Luminox has good lume, that's about it. For the money they want for it, you're better served with the G - Shock Mud Master or the Citizen Promaster. When they make a $99 Luminox, I'll look at it.
@@Mark-sd7fc they are G-Shocks are absolutely awful looking because they make them in 48 and 50 mm absolutely hideous sizes... I did like my range man as well as my 10 other G-Shocks but one day I was looking at the range man on my wrist and just felt like an absolute clown wearing a mall ninja tactical watch... But G-Shocks also makes several models which range from 40 mm to 42 mm and are the right size for most gentlemen.. Just look around one of my favorites is the Gulfman... the only G-Shock they make with titanium
@@DQ_Style Yeah, it's a nice solid watch, I love the carbon case and the tritium hands. I paid about 240 € in a discount sale. Definitely worth more than that.
Luminox is great watch no question about it, but being a good investment? I doubt it, I cant say if the price is 75% the watch and 25% for the tritium. The tritium having a lifespan of 25yrs as they say, it would then be difficult to be buying without any knowledge how long has the watch been out, maybe by the time u bought it, it has been on stock for about 5 to 10yrs so giving u only 10 to 15yrs maybe left on tritiums life, so would d price still be reasonable? Thinking of having it replaced and spending on it again or might even be adviced to buy a new one once the tritium goes dead. Bought mine 10yrs ago and now cant even see its purpose in d dark, so i was a victim of a 25yrs promise but like cancer was given only 10 to 15yrs maybe when i bought it unknowingly how long the store had d watch
I've had 2 Luminox watches and their quality is suspect. I had one which had its crown fall out, and another that took into water wading in a 4 foot swimming pool. Would never buy another Luminox, stick with what actual people in the industry use and that's a Casio G-shock
Oh wow, sorry to hear you had such a bad run with them. Crossing my fingers but my two are still going strong. I use them both pretty hard and they've seen everything from hard use at work to swimming in the ocean to snowshoeing in Mountain hiking in the very cold Maine winters. Had them for a couple years now. Always loved my G Shock and can't say anything bad about that either. As a matter of fact my son now has my good old G-Shock.
Mine is 3 years old and still going strong. Admittedly I’m not real hard on watches but from normal wear I can say mine hasn’t missed a beat, one of my favorite watches.
I'm with you on this. I'm looking at replacing my 3rd movement and crown in about 5 years. All hype in my books. Best of luck to anyone considering these high priced pieces.
@@derekdandrea3374 that's a lot of work to have to do to a watch that costs between 2 and 500 dollars, depending on the model. Super happy that as of now, I am about three years into mine and haven't had to do a thing except one band, not even a battery yet. Sorry to hear you had a rough time with yours.
@@derekdandrea3374 Luminox is one of the more faked or replicated brands out there. I wish I could see yours to confirm they're real, but I found at least half the time when someone is complaining about their Luminox breaking, it's actually a fake.
Thanks for the input. I believe the battery life is supposed to be 4 to 5 years. About the same as most of your average watch life. Also I believe the watches use Swiss quartz movement which is known the world over for being very accurate. I synced mine when I set the time on both of them and as to what I can tell they haven't gained or lost any time at all as of yet. Hope this helps.
@@TheMaineiacguy check out Nick Shabazz for me he has set a benchmark on watch reviews as he includes vital information that other youtubers seem to skip over. Best of luck with your channel mate
Luminox has gone downhill. Got a 3583 and the chrono doesnt come back to 12 when resetting (stops at 11) and there is light fogging underneath the crystal in certain conditions. I've also heard that they've been notoriously difficult to deal with when sending pieces off to get serviced, plus tritium replacement is no longer covered in the lifetime warranty. I like Luminox, but I sense the company has lost the reputation for making quality pieces.
Awesome review! I've been looking for a tritium watch as I too want something that doesn't rely on Indiglo or charging. And of course, I'm a gun guy. ;-) Luminox is on my short list so thanks!
Actually, if you do your research yes knife steel is measured in the Rockwell hardness scale but as far as tensile strength carbon fiber which carbonox is a patented type is actually 8 to 10 times harder than steel and some cases even harder. As far as Firearms go a rifle that uses a lot of carbon fiber is kind of the Holy Grail for lightness and efficiency. It's pretty much everywhere online if you look my friend. Thanks for the comment.
The Maineiacguy carbon fiber or cabonox is not harder than stainless steel , it’s strenght to weight ratio is higher than that of stainless steel , has nothing to do with hardness ... pick a knife and start to scratch your watch , then do it on a stainless steel watch , then comment back how it went . Spoiler alert you will have deep scratches on your carbon luminox .
Are the bad reviews that are usually seen on Lumiy due to someone buying a knock off? I really like the look of the Luminox but am undecided. I currently wear a G-shock that I picked for it's simplicity and look. I don't like a watch that has lots of features that I'll never use.
Yeah I've often wondered the same thing. As I said in the video and then several comments you'll never hear me knock a G-Shock. They are solid and well-built watch and have lasted me for years. I really do love the two Luminox watches that I bought though. They are lighter and smaller on my wrist than the G-Shock and have stood up to every bit of abuse that I have needed them to while wearing them on duty for the past year or so. The mineral crystal glass hasn't picked up so much as a scratch and certainly hasn't broken and they've proven to be both waterproof as well as at least so far surviving decent amounts of shock. I've only had them for about a year so I can't say that they have passed the test of time for me yet but so far it's looking pretty good. I would say without reservation if you are thinking about it give one a try😀
That´s my point. I love G-Shock. But i´m saying and i said it before. They are full of features that almost no one uses. I have a G 9300 Mudman for 9 years and used the compass for a real situation once. Everyone can make a compass with any analog watch.
Actually had to check back to my purchase history since it's been actually three years since I purchased them LOL and I don't buy a lot of watches as a matter of fact those are the only ones since my G Shock and I had that for several years. One of the companies that I went through was Watch Warehouse and I got the other one through Decor Plus, both watches were fulfilled by Amazon. They still set me back for around $300 but that was about 200 cheaper than the only local places I had to go to buy them which was Cabela's or there was also a jeweler in a town near where I live that was selling them for closer $600 literally for the same watch. Both of these Luminox's came with the authentication card and all the correct info so at least in my experience these two sellers are 100% legit. They are also both still going strong and I wear them everyday and use them hard.
If you do not need customer service they are very outdoorsy looking but be careful with them. You will have to send it to someone else if you need any help.
I only mean to say that there are several verified sellers on amazon (and sometimes even companies direct) but you DO have to be careful when shopping for an item like this of a seller that is less than reputable. Thanks for watching and have an amazing day!
@@adrot2937 thats always the safest way, though a lot more expensive. There are also authorized sellers like some jewelers and even sporting goods stores like Cabelas/ Bass pro. You can't be too careful when buying something like this. It would stink spending a hundred plus bucks, thinking you have the real deal, and then thinking the brand is junk when something breaks. When really for another couple hundred bucks you get the real deal made to last. Good luck my friend and thanks again so very much for watching.
there is one or two places that are very reliable on eBay and the only real problems with buying watches from eBay or Amazon or anything like that is you don't have a retail face to take the watch back to if you're unsatisfied other than that you can save yourself several hundred dollars. When buying online weather eBay or Amazon I think the biggest trigger is if they're too cheap if you have an $800 watch that's for sale for $99 chances are it's not real if you have a $500 watch that's for sale for 200 all you're doing is buying the watch from a warehouse instead of the storefront
I'm actually not sure. I still have the original bands on both and they're still going strong. If they do fail though there are numerous Fabric and rubber bands available from Luminox online to include right through places like Amazon.
I've actually looked at getting one of the blackout models a few times. I'm thinking I will probably pick one up before I'm done. And hello my friend, thank you for stopping by to say hi!
Hello thanks for your great vid. I have bought a 3050 Luminox today, second hand but my tritium are not glowing that good. Do you know what it could be?
Oh man I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with it. Mine have proven to be rock-solid. The 3000 Series watches are tad bit older but those tritium vials should still have plenty of life left in them. It's hard saying where you got it second-hand if it is a clone or not so hopefully you trust your source. Honestly I would consider looking up any authorized Luminox dealers in your area and seeking out their advice. Good luck my friend.
Thanks for both answers! It's working perfect.. first I was a bit disappointed because I expected a little bit more ellumination. But it's working fine right now and I am happy with it :)
I have a Fitbit and G-Shock and of course for geek Chic I have the Casio calculator watch but I really only wear watches with hands and most of the time I carry a pocket watch I don't wear wrist watches to often still I'm not going to knock electronic watches track my G-Shock has hands and a digital readout but I just prefer a watch with hands seems there's more to it
It always works? Not in about8-11 years though ?? Lol I get what your saying never really bought watch for seeing hands in the dark..never really was even on my radar as a reason to buy them...lol..seals all wear different shit
This 2 watch are not divers watch. 200m water resistant not mean divers. Watch should be ISO rated for diving, this 2 are not. I like look, but i never would pay that price of plastic quartz watch, because that what it is. They just call plastic with different names. Luminox have steel automatics, that make sens to me.
As I understand it they have a proprietary material that they use called carbonox. True a lot of their bands are basically glorified rubber but as far as the carbonox, it is a type of carbon fiber which is actually several times harder than steel. They make everything from firearms outer barrels 2 bicycle frames out of the stuff. It's a lot more than just a plastic. Typically gear made of carbon fiber is very expensive due to its innovative lightweight and near indestructibility. And as far as diving goes I'm not a diver just a swimmer so I don't see me going any deeper than a couple hundred meters. I've seen those other ones that you were talking about but while those things have a whopping price tag. Thanks for the comment and have a great day!
No... not a good watch. Let me explain. I love the look of the Luminox, and initially was very impressed by the “Navy Seal” endorsement. Sadly, I have had the same issues as many others. Weak spring bars, that when bending the wrist too far, causes the spring bar to pop out of the lugs and watch falls to the floor. Did that a few times, and even though the movement may be “shock resistant” the tritium tubes are not. I had just serviced the watch, had the tritium tubes replaced on the hands, when it had another drop off the wrist (I had forgotten to be extra careful with it) and another 2!! Tubes fell out. Sadly, even though I want to wear this as “rough and tough” watch. It could never withstand the same beatings my G-Shock can withstand. With that, I still wear mine, but can’t wear it to work anymore. I believe all watches have a wearable situation, and this one is just not the tough watch it’s made out to be by so many. My dress watches are for dressier situations. My G-Shock for the gym or any other work I want to do. My Seiko is the best bang for the buck truly tough watch that doesn’t get enough credit. I would choose ANY Seiko for its quality, over ANY Luminox. Period.
Ohhh maaan, that sounds like a wicked bummer, especially with the money you have to drop on these. Fingers crossed, but my two are still going strong. Thanks for watching and have a good one my friend.
Just get a G-SHOCK luminox watches are hype G-Shocks or Soldier watches if I ever ever ever ever get tritium watch it would be MTM for Marathon watch or armorlite
Bro I need quick advice first I have a birthday and I want a watch its iver the citizen ecodrive field watch or a luminox navy seal orange I have 16 cm wris all around
So honestly speaking the citizen is a good solid watch by what I've seen but it all depends on what you're looking for. The citizen is almost a little bit more elegant of a watch while the Luminox is going to be a bit less flashy. The Luminox I believe will be a much lighter watch for you and definitely offers great protection from the water. I have swam with mine in the ocean as well as streams and ponds and never once have I had a problem with it not being 100% waterproof for me. I guess to be honest even though the citizen is a decent watch in my opinion given the choice and assuming that it's going to be more of an operational watch and less of a dress watch I personally would go with the Luminox but that's just me.
We were still learning a lot about doing videos back then since that was one of our very first. Check out the 3-year follow-up on these watches which hopefully will redeem your viewing experience with us. Take care and thanks for taking the time to watch a video. th-cam.com/video/utFfpOvZfpA/w-d-xo.html
LUMINOX is a Great Watch Company!!! the watches are BUILT TOUGH!!! they are Bad ASS!!!! I have two of them - 1 for over 8 years and a New ANU Navy Seal , they are well worth the price because they are that good!!! i highly recommend!!!!
G-Shock guy here. I haven´t tried Luminox yet, but i love the way they look. They indeed look badass and adult. I love their "simplicity". I´ve owned and still own G-Shocks full of cool features that me and almost anyone will ever use. A lot of people complaint here that Luminox are expensive and look cheap, yet they spend 300 or more in plastic G-Shocks.
The tritium vials for the indicators are amazing for telling the time under any light condition . Aside from that, the watch is sub par for the price.
They're all very overpriced.
Dang, that's some watches my friend! Diversifying at its best.

Maybe I'll do another review video in a few years to follow up😀
Wow! My Tissot battery lasts 4 years 6 months!!!
What a great testimonial. My two are still going strong. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
I 100% agree. My two are still going strong and have, thus far, served me very well. Thanks for the comment, and for watching!
Ohhh man, what a bummer. Best of luck with your search for a new watch.
The metals that watches are made out of can rust, which means they are not waterproof, but the watch is designed to resit the ingress of water. This applies to even the most expensive watches in the world.
They are nice watches....they are absolutely not an investment.

I'll have to watch out for that. Thanks for the input, and thanks for checking out the video my friend. Have an awesome day.
This is very typical of rubber watch bands, same thing happened to my Victorinox and Seiko 5 watches while working. Spray with 303 or other, they are susceptible to UV rays, dirt, soap, they dry out.
Stephen Fontinelle why did you buy 3 if you got bad samples.
My 3001 series leaked in a simple bubble pool. Can´t say I´m impressed.
I'm sorry to hear that especially for that kind of money. Mine are still going strong happily.
There are a lot of fakes out there.
@@halex99 I blame the store changing the battery, not Luminox per se.
@@anderstogero3026 new battery without new seal
the spring bars on the straps are the weakest link of the watch, Luminox should make the bars thicker and not spring and be screwed onto the case
Three straps in five years. Over priced and over rated. I'll never buy another Luminox. Rather buy a Casio G-shock, built to last.
The rubber straps are crap. The silcon ones are better. Most of my Luminox watches are the land series with Leather straps.
i have the same problem. each replacement is easily 10% of the cost of the watch . And each time, it is the same tear near the buckle. I guess that is how they make money.
Bernie ONG so put a different brand strap on it and call it good.
Yes, teams members have an option to get this watch, as well as the G-Shocks, believe it or not.
Great review!
Wish luminox watches were smaller size at least around 38mm-40mm
They do make one model in 39mm. I just got it. Sea turtle. I love these watches. I would only wear an analog watch. Digital ain't for me.
What a bummer, but hey, at least you get to break in a brand new one.
That case back is def metal. Newer luminox watches use super luminova and currently using case bodies and dials from discontinued models.
Nice review. I'm in possession of luminox 30th year anniversary. I live in Europe and wanted a watch you didn't see much. I have had another brand for 23 years now and never come across it (pequignet). Hope he lasts that long.
That is indeed an impressive stretch for your last watch my friend. Hopefully this Luminox serves you as well.
i have 11 watches 3 of those are luminox...including 3050...f117 ...and the recon pointman.of all tose 3 i love there recon 8822...very stylish but tough.it has nice rubber bracelet.
Do you have a video of how to use all the features of the watch?
Rather get a marathon watch that doesn't feel cheap and was and actually proven to be a standard issue military watch.
Yeah I love G-Shocks, already owned two.
What gshock are you talking about?
Luminox needs to do away with those crap spring bars on the straps..Ive had my lumi watch fall off 3 times, once from 30 foot up a tree while hunting..They need to start putting screw on bars on the straps like Reactor does..Thats what I have now is the Reactor Gryphon watch..BadAss and way better than luminox..
reactor watch look interisting.
Jonathan Mendoza Yeah I like mine..They also have a 10 year power cell batterie..Triple seal on the crown.

Lovely review, and I’m testing one loaned to me as I need to understand to why they cost the price they do. So far pictures don’t do them justice, and in the short time I’ve been using it, I’m impressed. I’ve worn it more than I thought, and find it practical for most occasions. Great fit and that rubber doesn’t make my wrist soggy with sweat ;)
Will do a follow up video later and really show my thoughts then.
It’s really nicely made, and cheap it isn’t, and understanding how that Carbonox is made, really puts sense on it all.

I was thinking about getting the Apple Watch series 3 but I found this video and something tells me that this is gonna be a whole lot more durable
Yeah luminox watch is durable but not durable as g shock, luminox watch feels like a watch toy on the wrist and i think its overpriced watch, better go for apple watch, a 40$ g shock square is a lot better ang tough compare to this
HAGGAFA FAFAFA oh ok so I’m that case I’ll just stick with the Apple Watch then
I owned one for 3 years.
Keep up the videos man, they are great!
Thanks for influencing me into buying one.
Thanks brotha!
Wow, that sounds like some good informed facts! Thanks ! And thanks for the comment.

The Luminox has good lume, that's about it. For the money they want for it, you're better served with the G - Shock Mud Master or the Citizen Promaster. When they make a $99 Luminox, I'll look at it.

They have something on their website about sending it in to get it recharged but I don't personally have any experience with that.
Excellent video thanks for the info
Im using luminox till now for more than 10 yirs i remove it only if i change battery.
Just ordered a 3020 Coronado with blue hands... can't wait :-)
Hope it serves you as well as mine are still doing for me. Thanks for watching!
I'm thinking of buying the Coronado. Are you happy with it and how much did you pay? Thanks
@@DQ_Style Yeah, it's a nice solid watch, I love the carbon case and the tritium hands. I paid about 240 € in a discount sale. Definitely worth more than that.
@@nmfl100 yes I can get it for $300. But not sure if I should pay retail for the AD warranty. Thanks
I'm going to get one of these, but I'm not sure what size case to go for

Buy a G Shock
0:01-0:22, Wow!! Luminox can handle the same water torture test as an f91w!!!???!!! Cant find any videos on yellow dial variant, sad...
Hi it would be great if you could give a bit more information about the watch like
Battery life?
Accuracy + - per month
Thanks for the input. I believe the battery life is supposed to be 4 to 5 years. About the same as most of your average watch life. Also I believe the watches use Swiss quartz movement which is known the world over for being very accurate. I synced mine when I set the time on both of them and as to what I can tell they haven't gained or lost any time at all as of yet. Hope this helps.
@@TheMaineiacguy check out Nick Shabazz for me he has set a benchmark on watch reviews as he includes vital information that other youtubers seem to skip over. Best of luck with your channel mate
@@tas4107 I'll be sure to. Thanks.
How can I tell what year a luminox was manufactured?
not exactly sure to be honest.
8+ year lithium battery is now on LUMINOX SEA Watches
why are the Luminox Coronado going for so cheap
So happy you enjoyed the video. Both the watches are still going strong for me.
Hardenes can measure with Rockwell. I do not think so that Carbonex is many times harder than steel, not any times.
@@wd11800 You´re obviously clueless.
Rogerio Barbosa do your research before you comment nonsense like this 😉
Are the bad reviews that are usually seen on Lumiy due to someone buying a knock off?
The Maineiacguy thanks. 👍👍
i have 3 of those luminox and i love g shock are good but luminox is way better.
That´s my point. I love G-Shock. But i´m saying and i said it before. They are full of features that almost no one uses. I have a G 9300 Mudman for 9 years and used the compass for a real situation once. Everyone can make a compass with any analog watch.
Who are your Amazon sources?
Mine only made it 3 years.
Had one. The minute hand fell off. Now close to $400 on Amazon. Nope.
I have the sea turtle giant but it doesn't glow as bright as your watches.
I considered buying one of those. I do like the looks of them though they do have less tritium vials.
@@TheMaineiacguy unfortunately I bought it for the looks.
If you do not need customer service they are very outdoorsy looking but be careful with them. You will have to send it to someone else if you need any help.
What are good amazon links?
I only mean to say that there are several verified sellers on amazon (and sometimes even companies direct) but you DO have to be careful when shopping for an item like this of a seller that is less than reputable. Thanks for watching and have an amazing day!
@@TheMaineiacguy think I'ma just order from the luminox website then
@@adrot2937 thats always the safest way, though a lot more expensive.
Love the G shock shoutout
These things seem like a clear step up
Thanks!
Informative ! thanks
there is one or two places that are very reliable on eBay and the only real problems with buying watches from eBay or Amazon or anything like that is you don't have a retail face to take the watch back to if you're unsatisfied other than that you can save yourself several hundred dollars. When buying online weather eBay or Amazon I think the biggest trigger is if they're too cheap if you have an $800 watch that's for sale for $99 chances are it's not real if you have a $500 watch that's for sale for 200 all you're doing is buying the watch from a warehouse instead of the storefront
Thanks for the comments my friend.
Could you put a NATO strap on these?
I'm actually not sure. I still have the original bands on both and they're still going strong. If they do fail though there are numerous Fabric and rubber bands available from Luminox online to include right through places like Amazon.
The Maineiacguy Great thank you!
Yes you can, you just need two spring bars
ocm506 Thank you.
Very cool. Love Luminox. Have the Navy SEAL black out. Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
I've actually looked at getting one of the blackout models a few times. I'm thinking I will probably pick one up before I'm done. And hello my friend, thank you for stopping by to say hi!
I bought one in 2004 thinking I was getting quality.... I broke/cracked the face in less then 30 days... Band pins are also crap.
Good luck my friend.
tritium has a half life so eventually wit will lose its glow
Thanks for both answers! It's working perfect.. first I was a bit disappointed because I expected a little bit more ellumination. But it's working fine right now and I am happy with it :)

The Federal Trade Commission, the F.T.C, said watches in the US can not be called water Proof, not the B.B.B.
Ohhh ok. Thanks for the info friend.
Are you friends with Lorne Armstrong from Maine?
I'm afraid I don't know him.
Good review!!
Never understand why people do watch reviews with no on wrist shot.
Very good point. Guess I dropped the ball on that one. Ironically I'm wearing one of them in every video I make (except that one).
Just get a G-SHOCK luminox watches are hype G-Shocks or Soldier watches if I ever ever ever ever get tritium watch it would be MTM for Marathon watch or armorlite
Wore one for years on duty my friend. Definitely good watches. Thanks for the comment.
The tritium lume is pretty disappointing.

They definitely aren't cheap. That's for sure.
You're mostly paying for the tritium, if I had to hazard a guess.
Overpriced, you have to change the batteries, no solar quartz movement. And the tritium tubes are nowhere as good as Traser.

G-Shock guy here. I haven´t tried Luminox yet, but i love the way they look. They indeed look badass and adult. I love their "simplicity". I´ve owned and still own G-Shocks full of cool features that me and almost anyone will ever use.
