Goodbye, InSight. You will be missed. Your discoveries will never be forgotten, like being the first probe to discover a quake on another planet. The amount of science and work you done for us is amazing, and I just want to say a heartfelt goodbye to you. We tried keeping you alive for as long as we can, but your solar panels failed. But we arent mad at you, you were amazing to all of us. You can finally sleep with the others like your predecessor Phoenix, and the others like Spirit and Opportunity, etc. Goodbye InSight, you will never be forgotten!!

And nothing but disdain for the dweebs who think that they SIMPLY MUST make a cutesy voice for a lander to get people interested in it. I'm sure that if you put either SIRI or Cortana into every gas chromatograph and seismometer, we'd produce more chemists and geologists. smh

Miltech and aerospace tech can be quite synergistic; look at the XB-70 and the SR-71. Both were designed for USAF service, and both were used as research platforms by NASA and NOAA.
Also note that both the US and USSR space programs started as natural outgrowths of ballistic missile technology, which (regrettably) was the first practical implementation of rocket technology.
And the majority of early pilots were military aviators.
And the control centers and hierarchy were based on military installations and operations already in use.

Until robots can teraform and build protective structures and fool proof self sustaining life support systems no settlements can be considered. There isn't enough money on our planet to keep a supply chain to support a settlement on Mars. Robotic probes are a much smarter and cheaper option for space exploration. There are 12 independent engines grouped in cluster of four, 120° apart around the bottom of the craft, to slow, level and position the craft for final descent. The engines are pulsed. Longer duration pulses lift the craft; shorter duration pulses maintain control. Since the gravity of Mars is much less, these smaller, cheaper and intensely reliable pulse engines work nicely. If you listen carefully during final descent, the sound effect of these engines, used in the video, hints of the pulsing nature.

A fascinating clip of what is to come.
The science, development, hard work and foresight to believe in such a truly mind blowing project should humble even the most huge critic of what has been achieved by the bravest and most courageous men and women that have contributed and sadly sometimes the ultimate final sacrifice was paid.
We should all be in awe of this achievement and irrespective of how sceptical some are, should see this wonderful progress and step in the most positive, gracious and brightest light.

Are the landing thrusters monopropellant which decomposes when flowed over a catalyst bed , or are they bi-propellant hypergolic. I suspect if they are bi-propellant they use UDMH as a fuel and Di-Nitrogen Tetroxide as the oxidizer.

sorry; can anyone tell me how it was possible to filming the object (sent there) from the bottom angle? to be precise, were there camera equipments sent on mars before that thing/object descending? I mean filming from above the object makes sens to me since it's where it came from but the other way (filming from where it's going yet ...) need "specification"
sorry if my concern isn't quit well accurate, but I think you get the sens!

Video footage requires much higher data transmission rates than still images, and it can take several hours for NASA to receive just one high-resolution colour image from Mars. You need to learn more about science and engineering.
