2021 Miss Aloha Hula Kahiko Performance | Makaʻala Kahikinaokalālani Victoria Perry

Makaʻala Kahikinaokalālani Victoria Perry of Ke Kai O Kahiki, under the direction of Laʻakea Perry, performs “Hanohano E Ka Uka O Pihanakalani”.
Hanohano Ka Uka o Pīhanakalani is a mele hula pahu that describes how the sound or voice of the flute, Kanikāwī, wooed the beautiful princess Kaʻililauokekoa to Pīhanakalani on Kauaʻi and the mele is dedicated to Haliʻalaulani, the goddess of Pihanakalani.
The hula that Makaʻala performed comes from the teachings of revered Kumu Hula Sam Pua Haʻaheo of Kahana Valley Oʻahu, born in the late 1800's. Kumu Laʻakea and his daughter Makaʻala are direct descendants of Kumu Hula Sam Pua Haʻaheo and are honored to represent and continue this rich legacy.
