If the US killed all the natives when they colonized the islands (like the English did almost everywhere), there is maybe no more local culture left so the new settlers had to make something up.
Megan Young (2:41) portrays pre Spanish Philippines with Islamic (not necessarily Arab) and Indian influence. If the Philippines hadn't been colonized, it would be like Indonesia & Malaysia today.

What's funny is that Malaysia and Indonesia was colonized too. I think religion have parts in culture since Protestants of Britain and Netherlands are reluctant to spread their faith the way the Zeal Catholics do because they don't want to disrupt trade over faith. Catholics force people to study their language to adopt their religion, Protestant spend times translating the Bible to local language before preaching it. Or it could be that British and Dutch have Company while Philliphines were direct Crown Colony.

JANNA I did Irish dancing for 3yrs What she did *was* technically Irish dancing however the moves she used were VERY rudimentary and basic and very sloppily done. You actually need to stiffen up when you do an Irish step dance and her body was like floppy bacon😂 Another thing is that Irish dancers NEVER have their hair long. It must be in tight ringlet curls(many at the competitive level actually buy pre-made wigs so they don’t have to continuously curl their own hair) or a tight ponytail-although that’s rather abnormal, I have seen it-
I agree I did Irish dance for 6 yrs and am a champion level dancer. Here steps were basic and very poor. It was a let down to watch. She should’ve learned at least the treble reel.
But Tinikling isn't Spanish, only its traditional music. but I'm glad they represent some of our other traditional dances of Southern/Islamic Filipinos. rather than always the Cariñosa or Tinikling.
As an Egyptian.....I am ExTRemElY irritated by the fact that they presented belly dancing (our traditional dancing theme) as of Us Virgin Island origins. And I don't care if the girl is of Egyptian/Arabic origins....she is supposed to represent the island....not her own background....and if so it should of been labelled as Egytian/Middle Eastern dancing.... Utterly shameful and off-guard tournament..... (I appologise for any English errors)

Miss Slovakia looks so cheerful omg like a little village kid, it's so cute
Anna Krekr
You just explained why I loved it so much. It was just so sweet.
She is drop dead gorgeous too!
All girls look so cute there.... and Czech girls too... ❤️❤️❤️
Youre like the first comment ive seen about her
She looked very cute i agree
My little sister walked in and asked if big bird was sick when miss Venezuela was dancing 😂
Jajajajajajaajajajajajajjajajaa your daughter is the best
Sorry sister
So cute!
I love it when European-influenced/colonized countries choose to present their beautiful ancient culture rather than the influenced one. I love what they did with Philippines and Venezuela.
Miss Nepal is rocking all the dances, not just her own one! Loved it :)
May I ask why the US Virgin Islands contestant is showcasing a dance that is traditionally Arab?
Espeon BM ikr
Espeon BM i was wondering the same thing....unless she is like Shakira.
That's what I was thinking wtf
maybe they messed up the title? As an Arab that was weird and kinda whitewashy (by the show producers not the US Virgin Island ofc)
Alessandro Lombardi yep. They don’t have their own identity and always craving for one, hence the ridiculous stance of “I’m 1/8 german, 1/8 irish, 1/8 egyptian, 1/8 blah blah blah”. Nobody cares. And also1/8 italian doesn’t make you italian.
Since when is Bellydance native to the US Virgin Islands? It's definitely Egyptian.
I thought it was Arabic.
Prashant Pradhan Egyptian is Arabic
If the US killed all the natives when they colonized the islands (like the English did almost everywhere), there is maybe no more local culture left so the new settlers had to make something up.
Turkish actually which is dance for pregnancy
Jerry sta Maria, you are right it is Turkish. From Istanbul actually...
The Nepal one was just amazing...
👌👌👏👏👏
Would be awesome if a real American. a Native American, could represent the First Nations. 🙏🏼
Nice joke
The thing is that there are so many different tribes with different traditions. That would still be cool though
Native Americans were killed by colombs.
Kaitlyn Reynolds true
@@shaniajackson7864 whats the joke? You
Miss Chile is so beautiful
Megan Young (2:41) portrays pre Spanish Philippines with Islamic (not necessarily Arab) and Indian influence. If the Philippines hadn't been colonized, it would be like Indonesia & Malaysia today.
@waxy bayona that is singkil. a muslim princess dance of maranaos. it's usually danced with a crew and bamboos like tinikling. ikaw ang wag magdunung-dunungan. di mo yata alam ang history ng pinas.
Malay traditional dance.Islam has nothing to do about it.
Yeah, but malaysia n indonesia had been colonized each by british n dutch but they still hold out with their tradition
@@asyifanabila2374 were they colonized as long as Spain colonized the Philippines?
Germany: slapping dance in Lederhosen leather trousers while carrying 30 beers at once
🤣🤣🤣
Lmao🤣
Du hast mich 🤣
Wow salute to NEPAL 🇳🇵she is so gorgeous and love to the song as this song expresses love to your mother home and speaks the truth that mother home is far better than heaven . PROUD to be Nepali #GORKHALI 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for the context ! I was wondering cause I thought it was so wonderful ! :)
Proud to be Nepali as well! Hami Gorkhali!
This whole time I was just thinking of It’s a Small World
This made me cry❤️ it’s so beautiful to see such different cultures come together and celebrate❤️❤️ need more moments like this
Namibia and Philippines came to snatch everyone's wigs
Miss Philippines owned the spotlight, love it 😍💕
Wtf is going on with Ireland? That's not how Irish dancing looks like... that's actually so embarrassing!
Same the Slovak dance :D I have been dancing for 15 years now and this was not even close to our national folk dances
She did us dirty tbh
It was sloppy to say the least
i love namibia's dance. so fun to watch.
@BRANDON DAVIS thanks very much 🇳🇦💋
@@panduellyshinyama3821 Namibia's song name please?
2:43 YES! Most of the time the featured Filipino dances are of Spanish influence! It's good to see this for a change! Mabuhay.
But Tinikling isn't Spanish, only its traditional music. but I'm glad they represent some of our other traditional dances of Southern/Islamic Filipinos. rather than always the Cariñosa or Tinikling.
@@lahasainaypayaso3386 it's singkil and it's southern. not tinikling.
@@caramelcarton8682 That's what I said. the heck.
(I appologise for any English errors)
sara muhamed I’m not trying to offend you or discredit your culture at all I thought it was weird to but the culture section on their wiki explains a little en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Virgin_Islands
@@kawaiidemon1748 Still a terrible performance.
Paola Maciel yeah I know I’m just trying to clear up some anger
sara muhamed I honestly just want to apologize on behalf of their arrogance as they knew that belly dancing was a traditional theme for Egypt, but chose to ignore it anyhow. If they were going to take something from someone else’s country, they should have just put in the country instead. And for that, I’m sorry.
sara muhamed I agree with you
Nepalese and Indian dancers are always the most graceful. How I wish that was taught in primary school, so I could Jai Ho in the house =D
yeah.....Indian dances depicts much beyond dance.......they are really great and nice
Bonbon C thanks from nepal
Diversity is the most beautiful thing about humankind..
Yeah through Unity

@OrganicOrganist don't take my initial comment which was made in a good hopeful and beautiful light to push your conservative view of the world.
The world is open, borders are imaginary, let people live.
@OrganicOrganist Dude, do me a favor and leave.
@OrganicOrganist "gladly" yet here is another toxic remark. Y'all people have too much darkness in you. Now do me a favor and leave AND don't reply.
Uuuu Chile 😍😍😍 su que nuestro baile nacional es la CUECA ,El baile que ella hace es de la isla de pascua en el Pacífico es parte de nuestras danzas nacionales

@er lo white woman?
@@forme3h but Rapa Nui its part from Chile
I'm glad my country(Philippines) was represented through the dance.
The contestant from Namibia was getting it lol
Why would they showcase an Arabic dance for the US Virgin Islands.
Australia has a lot of beautiful garments and they dressed her on their flag. She looks oucasted along all the other contestants.
It’s not really an Arabic dance, I mean many cultures have some form of belly dancing. Plus US Virgin Islands has many dances from many cultures due to immigration that happened a long time ago that formed their culture
Opal Dust we don’t care. Belly dancing is an ancient Egyptian tradition and it represents us the best. She could have done some other dance instead of butchering our beautiful culture 🙄
Amy Louise yeah but it’s not like Egyptians are the only culture to do so. Different cultures do the same.
Australian here. there would have been an uproar if they had dressed a white woman in Indigenous clothing.
Frankie B Catt It would be so nice to see an Indigenous woman to represent Australia 😭 We need that to happen
When Philippines started to dance: "okay she is miss world 2013" lol
Wow Miss Philippine is beautiful!!! River dance music is mesmerizing!
When Miss Ireland was performing,
Everyone: *claps hands*
Megan Young: *claps the fans*

So many beautiful women, from all over the world, feeling my heart to be melted.
When Dominican Republic came up I was singing the song lol 🇩🇴🇩🇴
Why did the Virgin Islands to belly dancing belly dancing is middle eastern wtf 🙄
Khadijha Gordon belly dancing is considered a sub genre to hula dancing, which is why she probably did It
Tori Session, the fuck are you saying, the music alone is middle eastern and you say that what she dance is a "hula dance subgenre"???
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Virgin_Islands i know that wiki isn’t that trust worthy but scroll down to the culture part and some questions are answered
Khadijha Gordon no it’s not, the Virgin Islands is a coastal area. Kinda like Hawaii.
Nelly dancing is not from middle East its from gypsys so yeah.. now its all over the world
It's funny to see that Every Culture can shake their butts! Now that's in common! Lol😂😂😂😂
