  • So after a couple of weeks editing down this video i finally get it done. There was so much footage of my five days in Cornwall that maybe i should have done a part three.
    The week started with a night at Cape Cornwall and a tour of Levant mine the next day. Two nights on a camp site while i walk the St Michael's Way, a coast to coast, before exploring some of Cornwall's ancient monuments. Then it's time to leave west Cornwall for another wild van camp at Colliford Lake. On my last day i drive over Dartmoor to see Wistman's wood. Ten wonderful days in the van.

    Hi Jim, just wanted to thank you for your videos, I'm no wild camper (ultra runner actually) and stumbled across your videos whilst researching areas of the Lake District for a race up there, now on a mission to catch up on your past exploits. The videos are a wonderful release whilst on my daily commute, so a big thank you and I look forward to your future adventures being shared, all the very best.

      By the time i got to Cornwall Wayne i was proper in the zone. The only thing i'd planned was the SMW everything else just happened, loved every bit of it. The road trip format is something i would like to do again, filming the before and after a big walk, wild camp. Thanks for watching both parts mate really appreciate it.

    Oh i loved watching this video Jim, Cornwall is sooooo beautiful! You did everything i did or want to do when i next go to Cornwall! I walked that path at Cape Cornwall on my own and was in awe! we did stone circles, Ancient wells, The cheese ring and old churches whilst there, i love the trees strewn with ribbons at most ancient well sites x If i could i would love there x we camped all round Cornwall for two weeks but i would love to do it again in a camper van x The sheer vastness and solitude when out walking is amazing x Thanks for sharing xx

      Thank you Alison, yes such a magical area. The van gives so much freedom, home from home so no fatigue like after a few nights in a tent, don't get me wrong i love camping but with ten days, well i'm probably too old for that now. The thing with west Cornwall it has every thing, high moorland with sea views, a stunning coastline and so much history, for me the jewel in Cornwall's crown. Thanks again Alison for watching, hope you are well. Jim.

    Never been before but thought about it a few times. Pros: Scenery, villages, beaches, weather. Cons: Distance, would not have a clue where to go and heard it's dam pricey. To be honest, every time I think about it, I also think, we have got Northumberland and the Lakes, just over an hour away, Yorkshire Dales on our doorstep and Scotland in under 2 hours, so, always think I will leave it for another year lol, maybe one year but I have enjoyed watching your videos and good news the biker was OK. Cheers Alan

    • @JimHolden

      That's just how i feel about Scotland Alan, for me just too far to travel. Cornwall is only three hours away and i have family down there so over the years got to know it well, i love it like the Lakes, talking about the Lakes that's my next trip over the new year and can't wait but if you haven't been before to west Cornwall you really are in for a treat when you do, no photo or vid doe's it justice, and it's no more expensive that any other area. Thanks as always for watching mate and ATB. Jim.

    My van was in the car park in West Bay in part one. When staying at Colliford, drive past that car park you stayed in and about 3/4 mile on is a much better car park. I stay there often in my motorhome. There is a third one further on round but it's famous for its "nighttime activities".

      @JimHolden  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a great park up at West Bay, for me the half way point when off to Cornwall, stayed there a lot this year. Colliford is well known for the old night time activities and there was a bit of coming and going the night i was there. My sister lives down the rd from there and she said that it go's on at all the car parks, still a great park up but next time i'm there ill have a look at the one further on, thanks for the heads up and thanks for watching.

Wonderful to get back down again, i was itching to get up Trencrom hill and see both coastlines, that SMW is a lovely walk really enjoyed it and to be honest the only thing i'd planned for the week, the rest was on the fly. Part of me wishes i'd had the full ten days in Cornwall but Dorset was great so no regrets, ill be back to both county's again and again. The OS map is littered with stuff to explore, i feel iv'e only dipped my toe in up to now, like you mate just love visiting the ancient sites, gets the imagination going. All those day trips I've made over the years in one film, I've watched dolphins surfing in Carbis Bay, not an irregular visitor in the area.

      @@JimHolden Hi Jim, great video there. Really captured the mood of St Michael's Way and brought back some memories for me, especially the Bowl Rock. As our Dave says, I walked the Cornish Celtic Way this year which ends in Marazion (there's a book on the table in your video @ 16:28) 125 miles in all. I did do a little extra and walked to Lands End from Marazion to take in that beautiful coastline.
      That day I actually started in Hayle so it took me a while to get to Lelant. Loved Sy Uny's Church and it's graveyards. The walk along the coast there was fantastic, even though it was a boiling hot day. Near the end I remember catching a glimpse of St Michael's Mount and feeling quite emotional that the journey had ended.
      I'm doing a series of videos for the Cornish Celtic Way. Feel free to check these out on my channel. I'm up to day 7 at the moment. The video for day 10 will be Hayle to Marazion.

    You just missed the Dolphins Jim but the butterfly landed on your paper work right at the start of St Michael's Way - what a great oman. Getting there was fabulous old ruined church, van life and all. I was hooked again. A lowland walk but as good as the highlands in its own unique way. I mean Chyauster was pretty fascinating. Now that's a micro community subsisting. Awesome stuff with the spirit of old walkers (Camino) with you and the coast as well. Good end to the trip Jim - an ancient forest bath. You couldn't have done better. Very enjoyable end to end. Have a great week ahead. Take care. Mark

    • @JimHolden
      @JimHolden  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya Mark mate, yes the Dolphins were too quick for me, i did speak to a chap later that managed to get some photo's of them leaving the water but he had a big old lens on his camera. The butterfly though came in real close and i felt blessed, it's those wonderful simple moments that really matter, i knew you would appreciate the quality of that moment Mark. I was watching all the day trippers catching the little ferry over to St Michael's Mount just before i started the SMW and they reminded me of modern day pilgrims all lined up there waiting there turn. The prior church on the mount is the official end to the way, i went over the next day for a look round but just couldn't get all the footage together so left lots out, the mount included. I may do another one day as i have a ton of unused footage, maybe a pt 3, not decided. So much to see down there, loads of history, i will be back for more i'm sure, Dorset as well. Thanks as always for watching Mark, hope you are well. Jim.

      You noticed, yes one of my favourite albums and probably my soundtrack of this trip, just couldn't stop singing along. Thanks for watching and listening mate. ATB. Jim.

      Came out when I was in high school, forgot about Country Girl, had to listen to it a few times. Brought back good times and long forgotten faces.
