How do you avoid the pike minnow? I’ve never had much success on merwin

We caught one! I usually catch zero to 2 of them on average a trip. I focus from the surface down to about 45 feet for most of the kokanee there depending on time of year and temp etc... If you're catching a lot, you need to leave that school of pike minnow and try a different spot. Kokanee are all over that lake.

Is it really a grind if you have one in the boat before you even turn on the camera?

Yes!!! At this lake, we usually have doubles or triples first thing in the morning. We had one, then I think it took 30 minutes for fish number two. Last trip we hooked over 40 in 2 hours to get 20 in the box. So seeing those numbets in the past made it like a grind. Don't get me wrong we still caught nice fish and the actuon was there just below the normal expectations I guess. Hope this makes sense. 😆
