    This was fun to watch you transition this from cartoony to realistic. The shadows that changed the directions of each section, is amazing. The spikes are what really made it look extra special.

      You can use vellum for pretty much anything you use paper for. You can heat emboss it, stamp it, stencil it, use alcohol markers, pastes, gold leaf etc.

    Coincidentally I moved to Arizona and I do t think I’ve seen a prettier prickly pear cactus. Boy, you should see the cactus flowers in the Spring! Sandy, the colors are so intense and varied; I had no idea pink came in so many hues. I love the juxtaposition of the sharp leathery pads and the thin fragile petals.

    Grrrreat coloring, Sandy, as always (and even after years of following you it's still always a joy to watch)! I've read that this sharpener comes with a piece of sanding paper inside of the residue box, which should help you to get to an even sharper point.

    • @sonja__k
      @sonja__k 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sandy, coming back to quickly update my above comment. After having thought about buying this sharpener myself for almost a year, your video finally convinced me to do so. It arrived today, and I really don't regret the purchase. I love the long point this thing makes especially for graphite as it helps to lay down an even coat of color/graphite when the pencil is held at a flat angle. I think that's the biggest advantage of this tool. Also, I found that to obtain a really sharp point on pencils sharpened with the afmat you could use an inexpensive lead sharpener (3.15 mm) as a last step. (I'm not sure if this works with all pencils but it definitely does with the Polychromos.)

  • @karenzemko6518
    @karenzemko6518 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I watched in awe as the pencil fed itself into the sharpener. I remember "in the old days" when you had to push the pencil into the sharpener. Maybe pushing would get a better point?? But hey, I'm all for electric ones to do the work! Love the effect on the vellum. TFS

    I love it! Sandy I have a question about how you stuck the vellum to the white card stock? I have used 1/8 inch double sided tape in the past but it shows through so I solve that by framing it. Wished for another solution and here is this awesome video. I never knew that I could color the vellum either so I usually color the paper underneath and put the Velum on top for that nice smoky look I want. Very informative video thank you.

    Hi, Sandy -
    I think you meant 'Prismacolors" when you were saying which pencils were wax-based. This was around 1:10-1:20 somewhere. You had already said that Polychromos were/are oil-based and then you said their name again when you were discussing wax-based. Happens to me all the time if I am trying to think of one thing while discussing another.
    Thanks for the video. I did not know this type of sharpener but I love product testing!

    I have the dahle 133 wich if you have bad tremmors comes with a desk addon and was a must for me. I have been searching for a decent price and this one is under 20 euro and even get's my prisma's to a realy sharp point, wich is pretty much a miracle, given how soft prisma's and pastel pencils are; it doesn't damage casing either; but does take a bit of practice pressure wise. If you dont have money for the afmat wich I found realy expensive this one works just fine.

    It looks like the pencil sharpener is eating up half the pencil. I would be afraid to use my expensive pencils in this sharpener. That being said when I took a drawing class in college the art professor would make us use a razor blade to remove about an inch of wood from around the lead when we were drawing. this would have saved so many headaches of accidentally cutting through the lead trying to get that point with a razor blade.
