    There are so many interesting openings and gambits in this beautiful game. Imagine prepping this opening really deep and then your opponent actually plays it 😀

    At 3:13 why can’t you just take their queen because they have to take rook as they are in check

    • @chesswebsite
      @chesswebsite  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's also an option. Computer prefers Qxb7 as it captures material and black still has to deal with all the same threats. White will continue to gain material advantage. I think it's completely fine to just take the queen, though. Both options are clearly winning for white.

    Thanks Kevin, very interesting and useful analysis. At 12:48, won't they just take our rook on d1 after we move the bishop to h3?

    • @chesswebsite
      @chesswebsite  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They can but they don't really improve their position. We recapture with our rook, are still pinning down their knight to the queen and our position is much more active with more threats.

  • @msakov
    @msakov 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    12:28 isn't the white knight stucked ?

    • @chesswebsite
      @chesswebsite  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is but black has a hard time getting out of the situation. If they play h6, we take 1. Nex4 fxe4 2. Bxh6 Kg7 3. Bxg7 and white is much better off.

    • @spectralanalysis
      @spectralanalysis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@barrycrump6189 There is no move that "undermines" the gambit. The Alekhine's defense is so terrible that black has to defend almost perfectly once they accept the gambit. The engine says that after Qb3, Qd7 is the only move which is insane, and every other move loses almost completely (like +2.6, +3.7). Plus, c6 after 9. ... Qf5 10. O-O-O is still losing for black (it's like +1.22) because black is severely underdeveloped and the computer realizes that with some active play by white, the game is pretty much completely lost for black. If you mean c6 after Nf3, then I dunno, you must not know what a gambit is. And even then you either get a symmetrical position where you're up in tempi, or you're just up in tempi and you have a game with a tenuous pawn structure but more activity, that's all. This is a perfectly fine gambit. Like bruh, unless you're 1800+, winning against specific, dubious openings like the Alekhine's defense like this isn't shameful. You're not strong enough to play ANY opening seriously without serious effort and study and how many of you seriously have the time to study 100s of variations for the same opening you play all the time making micro-adjustments everytime, memorizing all the plans instead of just playing for fun because it's just a game. Nobody knows main lines when they're

    I don't think anyone ever plays dxe5 above like 1400 or 1500 level. Not sure whether it's worth trying for me when I'm 1800+. Still for below 1500 level players I'm sure this gambit would be really effective

    • @austinbalon3124
      @austinbalon3124 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      dxe5 is a very natural move, idk what you’re talking about

    • @chesswebsite
      @chesswebsite  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm curious what you think would be a more natural play than dxe5. In chess databases that look at higher rated games, dxe5 is the most common move.

    Why this is known as gambit? I don't feel anything like gambit in this opening.

    • @chesswebsite
      @chesswebsite  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the 7th move black takes the e-pawn and white does not capture back. They give up the pawn (gambit) in exchange for a rapid development of their queen to b3.

      I was surprised to see that dxe5 was the most common but it seems like most people want to try and open things up without knowing the risks.
