    Just opened in 2020, the East Indio Badlands Trail hike offers a spectacular loop through a classic badland topography formed by thousands of years of erosion and an active San Andreas Fault. You’ll hike through slot canyons, in the shadow of tectonic uptilts, and along a prominent ridge with 360 views from the Salton See to San Gorgonio Mountain. It’s an extremely fun hike at a shorter distance that makes it accessible to almost all types of hikers.

    Hiked this trail today. I missed that first crucial turn off the local path, but was able to regroup with little problem and it was a great day. Beautiful temps, stunning scenery, and not crowded at all. Thanks for this excellent guide!

    Thank you. Tried in Nov. 2021 and I think I got off the track somewhat so gave up. Will try again in Feb. 2022 using your items as my guide.

    I spend a few weeks in the Palm Desert area every November and am always looking for new hikes. As a guidebook author I really appreciated the detailed information on this hike and loved the hike through the slot canyons and the amazing rock formations...until we switchbacked up to the top and reached the ridge. I have a strong fear of heights which is mainly caused by narrow trails with steep drop offs which that ridgeline had an abundance of, unfortunately I really didn''t understand that from your description. I get it, that if you don't have a fear of heights you can't understand what would trigger it (most of my hiking buddies don't get it) but just think when you are describing a trail that if a hiker took a step off the trail they would fall a long way, that would be a trail section that would scare the beejeebies out of those of us with heights issues.

    Glad to see you doing better and getting out there on some of the more challenging trails again. I bagged Rattlesnake Peak last Saturday with 7 of my hiking buddies....my knees and quads are still mad at me but boy, was it worth it. Big Iron is up next👍

      Congrats, that's a brutal one. I decided not to do a guide for that one because it's probably too intense for most folks. The last time I did it I remember thinking what was tougher, the climb or descent. It's no joke, good work on that and have fun on Big Iron, which I found easier than Rattlesnake. The trail is def easier to follow.

      @kermit1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Hikingguy no sorry I was tired from my workout on Saturday. Did Newport reserve instead(BTW they blocked off a good portion of the trail going into the Marsh so you’re only allowed to go on the marsh towards the end of the hike and back onto the dirt trails.
      Probably going to do that Indio hike this Sunday though. Want to do it before it starts getting too hot.

      @@kermit1 Nice, yea the Back Bay trail can get a little crazy on the weekends too. Think they blocked the lower trails off because of the crowds / COVID. Should be okay this weeend for Badlands...

      @@CobaltHaze I grew up here in the valley and we had someone come from the local water district to talk to us about staying out of the canals because kids would try and swim in them and die because they couldn’t get out. It’s more of a “tributary” canal that comes off of the all American canal.
