Macrn is right in that there was absolutely no good argument for not giving the Taurus to Ukraine. The 'escalation' argument is absolute nonsense, since there's no reason THIS would escalate more than all the other weapons we've already given.

I would like to think that Macron's comments are simply to frighten Putin, nothing more than that. If so, it's probably the right thing to do. However it isn't a popular move amongst French people, and it'll probably push more and more people towards voting for the opposition political parties.

They never had a great relationship, so he should show some political savvy and negotiate with his other allies and ask THEM to put pressure on the Bundestag.

Regards Macron's current motivation. Those of us who grew up across the 1950s and 60s and 70s, were exposed to France taking the European lead on avoiding American hegemony and global leadership. Given current American ambivalence on supporting Ukraine, and an emerging sense that Europe must support Ukraine out of its own resources; isn't Macron simply tapping into a French attitude towards America, that has existed since at least the end of WW2. Taking up a leadership mantle vis a vis the USA, that has a significant history in France and Europe. I suspect that Macron's current stance regards Russia, chimes strongly with a large constituency across Europe and the UK.

Russia attacked a sovereign country, and that is wrong and against the rule-based order.
With that out of the way (so people don’t think I am a Russian troll), I do wish for the days when journalists were reporting news and not providing constant commentary. It is a small step between commentary and propaganda.
For example, saying Putin is a murderous dictator is 100% factual. But hearing journalists provide their ‘views’, many of which are really biased, goes against journalism.
What is even sadder is that it MAY have played a part to the current ebb of support for Ukraine! How? Because ‘journalists’ like these ones kept painting a picture of an Ukraine that can never do wrong, that is always winning on the battlefield, and a Russia that is woefully incompetent and get absolutely wrecked.
That was true at the beginning (Putin had massively miscalculated and tried to do too much with limited resources and poor resourcing), but the ‘cheerleading squad’ painted a picture of an infallible Ukraine.
So, when the counter-offensive failed (and even that was not painted as a ‘failure’, even though Ukraine lost a lot of the Western-trained troops), it came as a ‘surprise’ to many who had been hearing how Ukraine was always winning.
Which made people think that Russia had done some sort of massive rout, when all that had happened was normal battle.
Anyway, the truth will eventually come out. Let’s see.

The Presidential election in Russia this time around was more a referendum of support for Russia's SMO and the policies of the Putin government in overcoming sanctions than it was for determining who would be President. People queued for hours and travelled to polling stations in frightful weather so that the West would be forced to acknowledge Russian unity behind the SMO and the Putin government's policies. It matters little if the West does not recognise this however as it will not change the situation n regard to Russian triumph over a NATO backed Ukraine. Donbass will be fully liberated in several months and then we will likely at last see a Russian offensive.

Nato should move troops into Maldover, assuming their parliment is ok with that.
They should then pass a law if one is not already in place that only the Moldovan police and army can bare arms. Anyone owning arms will be considered a terrorist or revolutionary.
They should then disarm the Russians soldiers and if they do not disarm deport them.

Russia is mobilizing on every corner of the front lines.
    Ukrania keeps on retreating.

All this would have been avoided with a ¢30. Ink pen for neutrality.
