Thank God for all those proclaiming Christ to an ambivalent, complacent world! Wow. Very surprised that there are not more comments here. Bishop Fulton J. Sheen will turn out to be one of the most knowledgeable prophets of our time in retrospect. The world and The Church is certainly in a state that The Holy Spirit inspired him to know it would happen in talks he gave 70 years ago. This came about almost imperceptibly, incrementally over decades. Bishop Sheen said that very often in history, most do not realize the magnitude or significance of the evil the world is living within because they become so immersed they have nothing to which to compare there own times. Even many of the most devout, Christ centered persons cannot see through the fog that has enveloped the world. It isn't that evil hasn't always been here, it is that many of the intellectual elite, great and not so public have exalted themselves and justify as a good or 'freedom,' many sorrowful horrendous evils, with myriads of helpless human beings dying at the hands of so many seduced by their propaganda. It seems as though there is not end in sight. We must have gratitude for The Mercy of God; for many known to God are in a state of lack of knowledge and will be saved by The Merits of Jesus Christ. Personally, sometimes I must lean on Jesus Christ with everything, not to fall into discouragement. God has His reasons for allowing this to happen. His Ways are so far above our ways, beyond the heavens above the earth.
Fulton Sheen was not a liberal theologian. He spoke truth with fire and zeal. He did not compromise with the world. He would never suggest that all may be saved. He is my hero.
Bishop Barron, Thank you for your excellent work. I keep praying for the canonization of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen who has brought so many souls to our Lord through his works. Amen.
I had the privilege of meeting Fulton Sheen in Rome at his hotel during Vatican II. His Godaughter, a close friend of mine, who he had converted from Islam, asked me if I would like to meet him. He gave me some good personal advice, and I will never forget his absolute holiness. I was planning to attend his beatification in Rome from England when it was cancelled just 3 weeks before, a bitter disappointment. +
He had the authority and Grace to Teach given to him by God. He said many times "Lord, you bring them, and I'll teach them" He was subject to authority, just like you and I. We are called to evangelize, and he was one of the best and gifted Catholics at evangelization. We all fight with Ego, even those who strive to achieve a certain humility, are likely to fail at it the moment they acknowledge that they have achieved it. Speaking of Convection those things that we know to be true. Is not a manifestation of ego, but our calling. All honor and Glory go to Christ working through us as he did through the Bishop. Be some version of this, by teaching and evangelizing your Catholic Faith.
ryan perez I think more is being done in the Church than in other institutions where this is an issue. The grand jury report just issued made a point of saying since the guidelines were put in place a few years ago, the Church’s response has changed (reporting, not covering up). Where there are humans, especially in the helping professions, there will be sexual abusers. I’d like to see other institutions (Hollywood, for example) come forward with contrition and change as the Church, with its very human- both good and evil- people have. I also hope the change...and a good dose of self honesty- come to the hierarchy. It looks like that has begun. May it continue
Cranky Grandma How can you be sure Christ is there? Do you know what kind of protection's the church has put in to protect the children? Why is the church suing statue of limitations in the rap cases? We can't trust The Roman Catholic Church to Police itself. If it did it wouldn't take a grand jury investigation to get these stories out. One of the Cardinals who is supposedly to oversee the sexual abuse scandal was just recently accused of sexual abuse himself. The whole system is corrupt no evidence that it's fixing itself

I have been to St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria. It's beautiful. Very similar color and architectural style as Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago.
