Trains at Chester - 06/06/2022

- Filmed on 06/06/2022. Well, this is it. This is the start of the first of 2 holidays this year. The first holiday of the year and first trainspotting session of the holiday brings us to the gateway to North Wales, Shropshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside. It is the way to Chester (Season 9 Episode 18)
It isn't just out with the old and in with the new, there are still plenty of mixed variety of things which are happening at Chester. Merseyrail class 507 & 508 units are now on borrowed time before their replacements class 777 units will be taking over. But, these ex London Waterloo based units are still going strong with running permitted speeds of 75 MPH.
It isn't just Northern who has invested into the new CAF trains, but Transport For Wales and West Midlands Railway are also trailing their new class 196 and 197 units. Luckily, we get 2 of the newest Transport For Wales class 197's out on test/driver training duties before they make their introduction into service by December 2022.
Avanti West Coast has introduced more frequent services between Chester/Holyhead to London Euston. Not quite to hourly but more frequent that is for sure. Avanti class 221 Super Voyagers are also on borrowed time before they Hitachi units will replace them. The Super Voyagers might be transferring across to Cross Country Trains to be used on Cardiff Central to Nottingham services.

I miss the class 37s that used to work through Chester daily
Even though I wasn't born in those years to have seen them, I did hear and see some old videos of class 37's and rakes of MK2 coaches for Regional Railways for trains running through to Holyhead I think it is?
Great stuff mate. Nice to catch two TFW 197s on test but both of them were very late
Yeah, there were some kind of issues at Crewe depot which lead for 197001 to have started from Crewe station. They were late but they ran, looked and sounded incredible.
