I am so grateful to have our electric back in service. It's been a rough go, but so blessed to be alive and made it through the storm. Even though the weathermen were on top of everything, I don't think anyone imagined the devastation that Helene wreaked. Thanks to the linemen and all the first responders who put their own lives on the line every day. ❤❤❤
Amen and Amen!!!!! Our power was restored in 3 days. I live in a retirement village in North Florida and they take such good care of us. I am so proud of our linemen. What a wonderful job they did! I'm glad you made it through. Glory to God!!!
miss Lori, it's the vibration that effects your hands. when I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis my doc said anything that vibrates will cause my hands to hurt. that means battery powerd small hand yard tools ,a drummal set & yes the hand mixer. and my fingers are not turned like yours yet. I love you & paw brown. you are like an aunt and uncle to me. God Bless
I have a grandson that is with Friend Ships. They are a world wide relief oganization locate in Port Charles LA. They are getting things together to go help. Samaritans Purse is already in GA. helping. Prayers are also needed. Thanks
I have the 1959 edition of the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook that my dad and I gave my mom for Christmas in 1959. So many recipes have moms notes beside them, and pages have spots and tears occasionally, but it's still loved. I have many of both grandmother's recipes, and some great grandmother's recipes that are over 200 years old.
So excited to see this series get started! This recipe is about the same as one my Mom used to make called "Forgotten Cookies." The batch wasn't quite as big because you had to put them all in the oven at the same time. While you mixed the cookies, you preheated the oven to 400, then you placed the cookie sheets of dropped cookies in and turned the oven OFF! You left them until the oven was completely cold (or overnight) ... hence, Forgotten cookies!
Ms. Lori, I always make ice cream and angel food cake at the same time. My favorite dessert. Makes a perfect frozen ice cream cake. The Angel Food Cake uses the whites and the ice cream (pioneer woman recipe) uses the yokes. So good.
Cookies look delicious. I will be making these, my grandsons will love them. My husband is a truck driver, he's been delivering supplies down south, he says it's a terrible there. God Bless them all.
I believe the money that some channels have collected, are purchasing water, food, shovels, cleaning supplies and equipment. This effort will take a long time because MANY have lost EVERYTHING. The supplies have been taken in by helicopter in some areas, plus many are still being rescued.
Well, hello Miss Lori... !!!! Just came in from chores, fixed me a cup of coffee and sat down to find you on the screen. I have a lovely collection of old (very old) cookbooks... especially the old cookbooks from church-ladies. Thank you for deciding to do this. And I do have that exact cookbook, by the way. Watch your post-box for a package from the prairie of Colorado... it has the wheat that I promised you from our recent harvest... hard, white winter wheat. Happy grinding and baking. Also, the new book “Return”, from the ‘Prairie Series’ with young Frankie Harding will be released within a matter of weeks and I’ll send you a copy or two as soon as the publisher send me the advanced copies.
I wanted to thank you for the canned beef tips in gravy recipe. Delicious over egg noodles. I just started canning at 77, and they were my 3rd try and came out great! Can't wait to try the cookies.
Oh , i am so grateful to you both for your channel! Am glad 😂u are choosing to do things from old cookbooks. Will enjoy the stories u will tell us. I collect cookbooks too. Don't have that many rhough. Just fun to look at them.😊❤
Miss Lori, What a terrific idea you’ve come up with. Really like the little Scott Joplin tune you played at the beginning. Always enjoy your videos and spending time with you and Mr. Brown.
I have the first cookbook that my daddy bought for me when I was 6 years old. I have collected well over 1000 cookbooks and my favorite are church cookbooks. They are tried and true recipes from good home cooks. I had the pleasure of working on 3 church cookbooks. My husband had an Amish man make me a 12 drawer stand oak recipe file cabinet. I also have my mother’s 3 recipe file boxes. I send a new recipe out with every Christmas card. Just love receiving recipes from friends. Thank you for doing this video. It’s a joy.
Yes prayers and help for all those people suffering from the hurricane. And thank you for the recipe! Those look yummy, AND my sister has to eat gluten-free, so I'll be sharing this recipe with her. God bless!
Oh wow I do love old cook books I have one from 1883 and talk about things in there you never heard of. This look so good can’t wait for more recipes.😊
These sorta remind me of Forgotten cookies with the ingredients, except I use chopped pecans instead of walnuts and semi sweet chocolate chips instead of the grated chocolate. The ingredients are similar. It’s one of our daughter’s favorites. I know these are delicious. Thank you Lori for sharing.❤️✝️🙏🇺🇸
Ms Lori and Mr. Brown I would like to thank you for all your prayers you have lifted up to God for our state and the people that have loss everything due to the storm. We just visited our mountains 3 weeks ago and now they are just devastated. Thank you again. Love 💘 Linda Hardee Greenville NC.
This reminds me of my recipe called nighty nights. Beat egg whites, vanilla, sugar and nuts or chocolate chips. Put in 200 degree oven for a short time, turn off and leave in oven overnight. They taste like a crispy divinity candy 🤗
God Bless all those effected by the hurricane. My prayers are with each and every person and animals 🙏. Thanks for sharing this recipe as well, it looks delicious 😋
This is my second recipe on the list to make and it looks so delicious! I have lots of old Mexican food cookbooks and a few from Alabama way back in the day when all the churches were making them as fundraisers. ❤
I love cookbooks.I lost a bunch of my great grandmother and my Granny and Mothers in a fire in 1999 on 1st day of January. Have found some of them and so happy to have them ,Thank you for cooking from your cookbooks.
Love this idea! You know, with all of the newer cookbooks I have bought over the years, I always go back to my mother's old cookbook for basic recipes. My heart goes out to all of the victims of this hurricane and pray that their wounds heal. I wish I could afford to donate, but living on a very fixed and limited income, that cannot be. For those in my boat, remember that prayers are free and unlimited.
Thinking about my grandma and I loved her recipes somehow I stumbled onto your channel. What an amazing one it is! I love all your teaching everyone!!❤❤
Miss Laurie this is very similar to a recipe my daughter made when she was in Brownies in 81 for a fair . She even took 1st place. It's called Mother's Forgotten Cookies. Preheat oven to 375°. 2 egg whites 3/4 cup granulated sugar Few drops mint flavor Few drops of food color 1 cup chocolate chips Beat egg whites till fluffy. Gradually add sugar. Add color and flavoring. Fold in chocolate chips. Spoon onto ungreased cookie sheets. When all sheets are full, put in the oven and turn it off! Leave in for approximately 6 hours. They will cook slowly from the warmth. They are really good!
Miss Lori, I love your idea on Friday. New recipes & old cookbooks. I enjoyed your video & I can make these to sell to my gluten free customers. Miss Lori you're pretty & the sweetest lady. And a good teacher & cook. I'm making these.
Want to thank y'all for the prayers,we have our power on now so hopefully I can start healing.the most important thing we need now in south Carolina and surrounding areas is prayers as a Christian I know that prayers can move mnts.thank your son the team that restored our power was amazing one of the men even went the the back of our house to make sure the meter was good and we weren't getting power surge's.God bless all those workers and there family s.they also need our help they are having a hard time finding food for the workers to eat as they work these long days so pray that they are furnished with the nourishment they need to help all these people.and protection for those on horse back and miles taking supplies to those who are completely cut off from everything.just pray pray for all .thanks for the recipe looks delicious I'm going to try with pecans instead of walnuts.keep doing what your doing we all need the distraction from everything around us God Bless you and yours ❤🙏
I really enjoyed watching you make this recipe. They looked so good. I’ve made that trip from Southwest,Va to Fordyce, Arkansas 5 years ago for my sister’s funeral. It took us 12 hours and was a hard trip. I live about 45 minutes from Boone, NC. We got very high winds and heavy rain. Lots of trees down and loss of power. We were so much luckier than the towns of Damascus, Va. and Boone, NC. You don’t see a lot about the small towns that were hit so hard. It’s so hard to watch videos and see the devastation in places that I’ve known all my life. I know Arkansas has seen a lot of bad storms before too. When my sister lived there and also in Mississippi, she worried about the weather. Do remember these people in your prayers. It will start getting cold here in a few weeks. The communities have come together. Neighbor helping neighbor. Churches stepping in and Samaritan’s Purse have been a God send. God bless you both. 🙏♥️
Love this video of you cooking from your old cook books.. Your cookies look yummy, can't wait to try this recipe.. Please keep praying for all of the people that lost everything and loss of life in the hurricane... Prayers 🙏🙏.. that our Lord Father in Heaven will send his host of Angels to help !! God Bless y'all..
Shout out from your friends out of Easley,SC,pastor Brian and Nancy Aiken. We are still out of power but so thankful we are ok. We had about 12 trees down across our driveway but none on our house. We live an hour from Asheville and our church has a team heading up there this coming Saturday. Our hearts are broke for those in WNC and we are praying they can soon all be rescued. Me and my husband love ya’ll cause ya’ll are just like us. Keep on keeping on cause you’re doing a great job. Love and prayers to you, our dear friends in Christ
Great series. I love all my cookbooks! I read them like a novel, marking the pages of delicious sounding recipes with a sticky note. Looking forward to next Friday ❤
Happy Anniversary! Yes y’all are always doin something! I enjoy watching yall when I get the chance to settle down. I’m canning pork in my new Presto Electric Canner. I think I like this canner!
I have made a similar cookie years ago - like probably 30 yrs ago. If my memory serves me, my recipe said to preheat oven to 325° and then turn the oven off and leave them in there overnight. They had chocolate in them but I don't remember about the nuts. I think they were called Overnight Chocolate Meringues. That's a great recipe for those who struggle with a gluten-free diet. Yummy treat 😋 ❤
That was fun Ms Lori. I never saw that book before. I'm amazed they taste like chocolate chip cookies. I am gonna have to give those a try. My goodness yes, prayers and donations for the many hurting and those helping from the storm damage. It is reassuring to see so many private organizations stepping up. God bless! 🙏🏼❤️🇺🇲
When I heard the ingredients for these cookies, I figured you couldn't go wrong. I'm enjoying this Friday adventure and look forward to the next. I'm praying and sending what I can to help as I'm so far away. My dear one in Spartanburg has a pantry to sustain them but fresh produce and milk are not available in their area. The stories from North Carolina are horrifying so I pray and I cry and I pray some more. If anyone in this community is in this disaster, please know and let others in your area know how much everyone cares for you!
Thank you so much for the idea, I have three granddaughters twins are 9 and the oldest is 10. We made this a special thing when they spend the night. We grabbed a cookbook and we cook together. It was so fun and special.❤
I know I'm going to love the "Cooking With Lori's Cookbooks" series! My niece and a brother-in-law are gluten free so they'll be great for Family Dinner ❤ Continued prayers for all the people in the areas devastated by the hurricane and flooding. And all of our Whippoorwill Holler family 🫂
I’m a 65 year old retired school teacher, never married but not ugly 😉. I’m here in San Antonio. I love the old ways, too. Thanks for your lovely, gentle videos. I hope you have great success with your channel!
Wow this took me back! I made these with my Aunt Anna when I was little. I remember them well. Thank you for this memory ❤ I have to do this with my son ❤
I love looking through my mother’s cookbooks. It’s like a trip down memory lane!❤ Sooo many memories!❤ many of these recipes I have made for my family.❤ Blessings !❤
Thank You , Lori for the recipe for chocolate cookies . They look so delicious . Hope your garage sale goes good . I have continued to kept every body in prayer . The ones that is working to help people . And the people that needs help so much . Protect over all these people in the name of Jesus . Amen 🙏🏼.
This was lovely! Like spending an afternoon with a friend. I certainly look forward to the next one and sure wouldn't mind if you did this more than once a week. Blessings..
Yum 😋 👋❤🩹 Hey Mrs. Lori and Mr Brown I would love more gluten free recipes 😋👍🏽❤🩹 Thanks for the recipes pray y’all are doin good have a blessed day 🙏❤🩹
Talk about memories...thank you, dear 😊 I've not made meringue cookies in 45 years or so. I learned after the first couple times they have to be stored immediately after cooling in airtight containers (with paper in between each layer). If not, they absorb moisture like nobody's business.
I love making kisses. I have several different kinds of kisses. But chocolate and plain are my favorite. Can't wait to see what other recipes you pick.
This looks delicious! I can’t eat gluten so this one was for me for sure! Prayers for all those poor folks in need. We have been through many hurricanes here in Florida. Ian was a direct hit for us so I know how hard it is. It breaks my heart to see these folks suffer.😞
Another amazing post! Found you a few yrs ago. I lean toward the healthier recipes, like using banana or applesauce instead of sugar, etc.. Homesteading is so much work. I have no idea how you guys do it without a huge family to lend aid! Your cubbards (cupboards) look like they are original homestead = old. Best to you both, from Colorado!
So, So very easy it looks like... I just made choco chip & Pecan cookies last week for a church gathering , oh my goodness took awhile plus what a mess and so many ingredients. Ill be trying this one...Thank you Ms Lori
I am so grateful to have our electric back in service. It's been a rough go, but so blessed to be alive and made it through the storm. So sorry for everyone that suffered through the hurricane. I’ve been praying for everyone everyday. Blessings to you.
Anyone else as excited about this as I am? Oh yeah!🎉

I may have to try these because I have to go for free. And my husband loves cookies and I get to eat some too this way.

2 egg whites
3/4 cup granulated sugar
Few drops mint flavor
Few drops of food color
1 cup chocolate chips
Beat egg whites till fluffy. Gradually add sugar. Add color and flavoring. Fold in chocolate chips. Spoon onto ungreased cookie sheets. When all sheets are full, put in the oven and turn it off! Leave in for approximately 6 hours. They will cook slowly from the warmth.

Talk about memories...thank you, dear 😊 I've not made meringue cookies in 45 years or so. I learned after the first couple times they have to be stored immediately after cooling in airtight containers (with paper in between each layer). If not, they absorb moisture like nobody's business.
Yes!
I love this recipe and I sure do pray for all those effected by the hurricane .
I love making kisses. I have several different kinds of kisses. But chocolate and plain are my favorite. Can't wait to see what other recipes you pick.
Me too!!
This looks delicious! I can’t eat gluten so this one was for me for sure! Prayers for all those poor folks in need. We have been through many hurricanes here in Florida. Ian was a direct hit for us so I know how hard it is. It breaks my heart to see these folks suffer.😞
Love trying older recipes. I shall join. You each Friday. They look delicious
Yay! Thank you!
Wow ! That is an arsenal of chocolate !😮😮😮♥️♥️♥️
Miss lori have you thought about doing your own cookbook and so on it to your viewers
I did a cookbook several years ago
Sold out 5 times
I'm working on my second cookbook to publish this winter
Another amazing post! Found you a few yrs ago. I lean toward the healthier recipes, like using banana or applesauce instead of sugar, etc.. Homesteading is so much work. I have no idea how you guys do it without a huge family to lend aid! Your cubbards (cupboards) look like they are original homestead = old. Best to you both, from Colorado!
Thank you
So, So very easy it looks like... I just made choco chip & Pecan cookies last week for a church gathering , oh my goodness took awhile plus what a mess and so many ingredients. Ill be trying this one...Thank you Ms Lori
Wonderful
