This was from a time before they sold out to solicitation of racial profiling and child abuse. I imagine there was probably actually something humorous about this back then. It's a bummer, really.
I remember stumbling on this promo video on MuchMusic as a teenager, and thinking it must've been some kind of joke. Like a very funny joke that spoke to my sense of humour. Very soon afterward I became a fan for life.
Exactly the same thing happened to me. City Limits on MuchMusic was amazing...so much cool, non-mainstream music: TMBG, Nina Hagen, Lene Lovich... A solid chunk of my record collection sprung out of that show.
3:24 interviewer "You come from America so do you have an American dream Johns response "Ugh, every night." Little did they realize this album is now a classic.

I can't believe this doesn't have any comments yet! When I first saw this, I thought it was the most hilarious thing in the world. Hell, it's still the most hilarious thing ever.
This is probably the most beautiful and charming and humorous invitation for a record I´ve ever seen. I haven´t seen much though. Just one to be precise. Thank you.
Does this diner still exist? And more importantly, do you visit and reminisce of a much better time when albums had a promotional video? Flood is still winning.
We all need a dose of this right now. Laughing boosts ya immune system aswell. I always knew the John's would somehow save the planet. -Peace , much love y'all. Btw I used dial a song so much in the early 90s. Lots of pocket money used. Kept me sane.
Yes.....Minimum Wage......I love it! When I finally got around to hearing Frank Sinatra's cover of "Downtown" on an old record a few years after hearing and knowing all of FLOOD by heart, I had several happy moments during it(and many more after from it as well). Then, I heard part of the Petula Clark version of "Downtown" in the news on Christmas, 2020. Even though I had heard Clark's version at least 100 times, mostly on oldies stations before 1990, I cried. Now sometimes my mind turns, like The Rolling O, to Neil Young's own original "Downtown" from the mid 1990's.
I haven't seen this for 30 years, but it's imprinted on my brain. One question: Why was Istanbul (not Constantinople) silenced out? Could they not get the rights to use their own recording?
Independent, sex symbol, superstars. Every word true. The smiles on their faces as he says that are so cute.
This humor was ahead of its time

@@Adrian-fd4wf Uhh what the hell are you on about there buddy? You sure you got the right band?
@@Adrian-fd4wf you must be thinking of some other band.
@@Adrian-fd4wf what?
I: "Of course you come from America so do you have an American Dream?"
JL: "Every night"
You only played the title of most of the songs, but you played the entire lyrics of "Minimum Wage".
I consider "Heyah!" a lyric as well. But I'm strange.
What about “HEYAH!” ??

Stop watching TH-cam everyone and get back to work.
The bit where they list off songs is great, especially Istanbul.

Linnell: Some records that come out today only have 10 songs or less
Flansburgh: *THIS MAKES US ANGRY*
The sudden escalation killed me🤣
but instead of cursing the darkness, john & i have decided to do something about it.
The sheer level of musicianship of these 2 guys is crazy and could easily go next to Squeeze, XTC, 10CC!!!!
Yes! Linnell and Flansburgh are the Partridge and Moulding of Brooklyn.
“John Flasburgh- Flansburgh.”
“Wait-“

I did purchase Flood between 1992 and 2020, and I can confirm that all of those songs do appear on the album.
Happy Birthday to Flood.

And only the parts where they sing the titles.
This is absolutely precious.
The humor has aged so well, I couldn't stop chuckling. Love these two
This video made to sell albums never fails to bring me joy every second of it
This is legitimately the greatest video ever.
THEY ARE SO CUTE OMG
I like how Istanbul was muted as if this wasn't the official channel uploading it
royalninja pretty sure that was part of the original promo
Actually it was because in Gigantic it wasnt let in
i think it was already muted because it’s a cover
This video made my day. And the Flood album made my last 3 decades.

I'm curious about what cafe/diner they're in.
