Strong aircraft to have remained largely in one piece. Rocker covers of RollsRoyce Griffon engines missing though. Surprised the tractor pulling boys haven’t salvaged the engines yet.
Normally by my next offroad 4x4 trip to Mauritania i go to Zouerat, Fderik and hope to go see the Pelican 16, i have already the track , hope that Polisario let us in what not must be a problem , i hope
Search for "The Death of Pelican-16 here on youtube, there is a 2 part docuseries on it, with the crew interviewed. Long story short: Two engines gave up and they couldn't remain airborne so made a forced landing.
UNCLE FESTER I think in a weird way that pelican 16 remaining where it crashed is a much better memorial to the aircraft than if it had been taken to a museum. Of course as the years roll by people may take parts of this old war bird but hopefully the main superstructure will remain for a long time. Also seeing this thing on google earth is just amazing look it up
@@thetourettesgamer8851 This area in which this plane is located is a disputed territory between Morocco and the Polisario Front. It is located in territories controlled by the Polisario Front and is close to Mauritania.
Other ‘planes in worse condition have been recovered , rebuilt & flown again, so never say never. It’s surprising what may happen in the future.
Increasingly cannibalised by "the Jawas"... 😢
When was this video filmed
