    I read in other sources that the exchange of carnitine & CoA happens after crossing the OMM - in the intermembrane space...

    I wonder whether supplementing beta-alanine could potentially lead to increased synthesis of carnitine. Maybe there is some enzyme that adds hydroxyl group to beta-alanine, or there is no direct link, and it is only a structural coincidence.

    Hi, is it because of the hydrophobic carboxilic group of acyl-CoA which is why it has to be converted to acylcarnitine? I was also wondering if the CoA gets transported across the membrane> or is there a store of CoAs in the miitochondrial matrix?
