    There is no easy money in this world unless you were born rich. SL is no different. You have to work really hard and put a lot of time into it to see a large return.

    Just like in RL, it takes time and commitment to earn money in SL, and most of the time, what you earn in Linden, goes right back into whatever you're building. I say this as a creator in SL and a long time player

    As a sim land owner, who runs both a home rental estate and a clothing mesh store, that has been up for about a year. This video is awesome, I don't know Prisqua, but fantastic video. Starting from scratch working hard on an uphill climb is an understatement. Plan, educate yourself, and don't quit. The hours I spend in 3D programs, art programs, on the island improving my sim, marketing, customer relations, budgeting, planning, and more .... Thank God for my patient wife. Good video ma'am.

    I was just watching some of your videos only to find out what SL is about, but HOT DAMN your videos are incredibly professional and most of all informative. I found absolutely nothing annoying or redundant, I think you're on a great path to success so I just had to subscribe. What I really liked was no intro with loud music, loud background music as you speak, excellent video editing, but most important of all I never had to rewind due to my inability to hear/understand you. That crisp grammar and smooth lovely voice will definitely take you places!
    P.S. The B-Roll shots of your curvy model are much appreciated lol

    I just posted a dismissive comment in her video comments. The fact that she's regurgitating info scraped from the wiki and reddit shows she knows nothing about SL that is even remotely useful to someone starting out much less with the goal of "making money". Yes it's possible to make a living in SL and I personally know dozens that do, but in every instance they are talented, dedicated, and extremely knowledgeable about SL. And it took them years to reach a point where they were earning an actual income. Her video is deceptive clickbait.

    I been on second life for 16 years and I made a total of 40 bucks in total, since I been on. I probably made more but I never cashed out during that time. And its not that easy to make thousands of dollars. I have had my own brand a few times. but its not that easy as she claims. Second life is like real life yes, but it is not that simple. i mean you can earn lindens but its takes awhile to earn enough to cash out. its not like you make tons of lindens in one day. she should come into world and see how easy as she claims it is. just to find out its not what she think it might bring to her viewers.

      It's kind of like sales. You have to pretty much be all in on the hustle. Today, it seems to be going all these promotional groups and participate in the weekly events on a regular basis. I can only see this as a short term fix because it's too easy to churn out and burn out. This is unfortunately becoming an all too common trend, both with inworld and real world where a bunch of supply is pushed out in hope to maximize profits and demand. But most shoppers know you don't get product when it's just pushed out, but wait for the sales events, because the discounts are just around the corner so as to make room for the next push of new product.

    She's not wrong on the basics. Avatar was one of the early big movie franchises that generated interest in SL between 2009 and 2010. In world creators also got a boost in as much as they were involved in creating the Avatar skins sims, flora and fauna and the mechanics needed to script particles and animations that helped immerse people into the Pandora world the sims were meant to represent. Sadly, very little of the pandora sims exist, and the last movie, as far as I can remember, didn't partner with SL to do the water world vision of Pandora. Unfortunate because there could have been a community based around it in SL connected with the sea aquatic community.
    But yes, you can do the DJing, host events, etc, but you have to have the equipment for it, participate in the communities, and be willing to learn the virtual trades. Hosts can't make a comparable wage as those that host events irl. You can do real life in store marketing and make $16 -$20 an hour, For most hosts, especially starting out, you're lucky to earn $10 for a 2hr hosting gig.

    • @secondlifespectrum
      @secondlifespectrum  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Second Life creators can definitely profit from a movie's popularity by creating related content, but comparing Second Life to the Avatar story-line just doesn't make sense. I have seen some DJ's earning good tips, but you have to build a reputation. The likelihood of becoming an overnight star is slim.

    • @JohnCrawford1979
      @JohnCrawford1979 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@secondlifespectrum - It's not a complete apples to apples comparison. However, there is a certain aspect of immersion where we enter into our avatars. Maybe it's not as apparent if more or less a casual SL user that mostly looks at SL as a means to chat with friends around the world, or to partake in virtual shopping therapy.
      However, some people have come to enjoy the ambiance of SL. It started in the early days when people would disable the time out function that would automatically log you out. Some would later call it AFKing, but that got used for * ahem * other purposes. So idling is probably the best term for it. It's also just one way to be immersed in SL. Roleplay has also been a favorite form. Although, it has It's quirks, and some prefer to be immersed only into the fiction of it, so it's not the best, or most advisable for a fully immersive experience. That is, to feel like you're 'in' the metaverse, rather than just moving around this virtual doll. It's hard to explain it, but you know when you feel it - like you're no longer just controlling an avatar, but are in some way 'one' with it and you're in the metaverse. And yes, we used the term long before FB/Meta, and neither were we the originators of it. It was also used in Active Worlds, a virtual world that was around before even SL, and was popular for a time in the mid to late 90's. Metaverse apparently started with a book called Snowcrash that, in its depictions of a future world described a virtual world similar to how we understand SL today. However it be, the metaverse is not something any of us own, but it can offer many unique and powerful experiences. Enjoy the experience, but also be careful.

      @@secondlifespectrum -- Sorry, I was trying to raise the conversation up from the low hanging fruit of the video. That is, I don't agree with the execution of the person trying to sell SL as a place to find work, especially not quick and easy. However there is there is a point to be made about the similarities between Avatar the movie and being immersed in one's avatar in SL. That's an innate part of why one might take offense to how SL was presented. It even cheapens the facts that, indeed, yes, sci-fi has been a major influence on the innovations of modern tech. Even Philip Rosedale has said as much, that he saw Terminator, even The Matrix, was somewhat appalled by their dark visions. Yet they were part of what pushed him to create Second Life as a means of showing a more positive way that technology and an immersive metaverse can benefit people.

If you are selling high demand products and your skill are high quality, yes, you can make money if your product becomes popular. I have a friend who is a wonderful mesh creator and while talking to her on voice, you can hear her lindens dropping in her bank fairly often. When was able to quit her RL job a couple of years ago. But yes, you have to be able to create well and learn how to run a business, as in RL. It IS a business.

    She might oversimplify things, but you over complicate them. A nice balanced middle ground makes more sense. I make a living in SL and never invested any money into it. There are lots of ways to make income in SL, albeit small. Any money you make is based around the sl economy, In SL most people consider 1000L to be a lot of money, when in reality it's about US $5.53. The easiest most lucrative way to make money in SL is creating items to sell. You can start off on Marketplace and gradually make your way to open your own store. Having talent and a vison goes a long way. Just make sure you have a good grasp on your expectations. I fear videos like this will scare people off from even attempting to make a business in SL.

    • @secondlifespectrum
      @secondlifespectrum  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So let me get this straight: the person who’s never even logged into Second Life oversimplifies things she clearly doesn’t understand, and I’m overcomplicating because I point out that creating a business in SL is not easy? My aim isn’t to scare people away, but to give them a realistic view. I talk to creators of varying success levels regularly and not one of them has ever said it was easy. For some, it’s taken years to gain traction, and others are still struggling to make consistent sales. Sugarcoating the reality does no favours to anyone looking to start a business in SL. Too many people are promoting “get rich quick” schemes, but that’s not how it works in SL. While it might have been easier to find success in 2006, in 2024, the landscape is far, far more competitive. Achieving success in SL now requires either a truly unique idea combined with skills and effective marketing or a deep understanding of how to run a business. Anything less is unlikely to yield quick or substantial results to allow you to quit your job and work from home on Second Life. That was my point with this video.

    Also, no one seriously will take a SL job as a real job. You'd probably be laughed at in the real world if you claimed photography and hosting experience on SL. @@secondlifespectrum - maybe, but at best, while the majority considers the 'real world' to be the physical world, and doesn't see a viable comparison with a virtual world, at best, one might consider these things hobbies. I agree with your take on Second Life, however to trash someone else’s opinion and attempt to explain their own opinion is petty. It’s HER understanding and experience. • @secondlifespectrum
      @secondlifespectrum  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am not trashing her or anyone else, but I do believe in the importance of accurate information. She lacks firsthand experience with Second Life, which makes her perspective incomplete. I mean, after all, how can one fully comprehend something without trying it out, right? Especially since Second Life is a complex platform.
      She's been sharing insights picked up from various sources, leading over 300k subscribers to believe that making a fortune on Second Life is a walk in the park. However, it's not that simple. Effort, time, skills, and money are often necessary factors to make money on SL. Imagine the surprise when newcomers find out they first need to create an avatar from scratch, which can be quite daunting given all the options available today.
      Yes, there's the Welcome Hub to guide them, but it's not always as straightforward as it's made out to be. I'm confident that seasoned Second Life creators would agree with me on this. These nuances would have been clearer if she had tried to create an account herself.
