  • Here I do a little comparison with the Eflite Decathlon and my Deflatlon. Mainly focusing on eflites decision to use a flat bottom wing on an otherwise solid little plane.

The tried and true Clark Y flat bottom airfoil generates a good amount of lift, from the top. Its main purpose being to be efficient, not really aerobatic especially in negative G. The reason the SIG Kadet is a good trainer is because of the flat bottom airfoil. Ailerons are not as effective as rudder and the original Kadet I learned to fly on in 1976 didn’t have ailerons. I find the semi symmetrical on high wing is the best choice for scale flight and aerobatics. One of the reasons the Citabria was good for aerobatics is they shifted the CG aft to make it snap and spin easier. Great videos. I really enjoy them

Where can one find the Deflatlon?

The hope is to have some kits made later this year.

-- If you'll kit this Decathlon, I'm maybe down for one! It's flying very nice, and keep full span ailerons with inboard flaperons, I do like to 3D.

-- Can you give a bit more info like:
Wind Span(I do like 56", 1.2m=47" too small)
      Weight
      Wing Area
      Wing Loading
      Motor(power train)
      Price
      Thank you!

I didn't use full span ailerons or the flaps in this video but I have shown them in previous videos. The roll rate is pretty intense full wing mode and the flaps work really well. I went over V1 in detail in a previous video and this is pretty much the same. It's just 56" instead of 54" and 6.5oz lighter than V1. Wing area is around 540 sq.in. Flying weight is around 4lb which gives you 17 oz/sq.ft. Wing Cube Loading is around 8.8. Runs on a 4s3700 pack in this video with a SunnySky x3 3120 760kv motor, 12x8 prop, 80A ESC. I didn't design it around 3D flight but it can do some stuff. It's meant to be a sport plane.

Or an actual Decathlon with the correct wing like the second half of the video?
