what are the processes of extracting REEs from mining?

I understand it takes over 1 ton of rare earths material to build just one wind turbine if not more, the amount of ecological damage and pollution, plus some radio active bi product to make that one ton of enriched material is massive and far outweighs the savings that we love to congratulate ourselves in terms of spinning it as a green energy A bit like the massive pollution produced when manufacturing the material for catalytic converters in our exhaust systems , its at best, a feel good exercise for those of us in the west. And we LOVE to pat ourselves on the back while we shit in our own nest.....

It's the whole sausage factory thing, out of sight, out of mind.

how about superconductive properties of REEs?

isn't just a shame if price is alwaus put ahead of strategic availability? There are plenty of mines who had to close because the buyers had to squezze oyt every last millicent from the mines. the Result is that there ate only two countries operating rare earth mines. China and Japan/Australia.
the reason why Japan and Australia have a second source is a rare earth embargo by China after an incident od chibese Fidhetmen ramming a Japaese Coast Guard boat.
so tge Japanese contracted an Australian Mine to produce Rare Earths for them. So the are not strategically dependent on China.
What did the rest if the World do. Tgey saved those Millicents and let themmines in the US and Europe go bancrupt again. well you can't have your pie and eat it! Pay a bit more for non Chinese product or be dependent on Chinese Good Will.
So if Trump cuts trade ties with China due to North Korea the cost of our "green" hightech gadget will go up a few cents and yhete will be mining Jobs in the rare earth mines around the world..
