Both are great! The Seymour Duncan 78 Model wins for me, by a small margin. Both of them make great stuff!

The pickup that got me the closet to classic Eddie tone is the Duncan Custom Custom SH-11 which Eddie actually used. Phenomenal pickup. You won't want a very tight, thuddy low end for an old Eddie tone. You want a low end that sounds full but with clarity and sweet, multidimensional harmonics that sound like you're cracking them open like an oyster. In your demo the '78 really nails it to the wall. I have yet to try a '78 but I'll probably get one. It's not so much that I'm trying to sound like Eddie. God knows I'll never play like him. But I like working with this sort of tone. I play simple strats with one bucker, volume, etc. I like working with organic, harmonic tones that are also warm. I used to have a candy apple red Charvel Holdsworth with a standard non-locking trem on a double fulcrum and a graphite nut and an original hand wound JB with a roughcast magnet. It sounded great. I experimented with a number of pickups. The JB and the Custom Custom were the best. I got my first Custom Custom in '89, right as they hit the market, and I already knew from some techs that it was the Eddie pickup without the Eddie name on it. I'd describe the CC as a Pearly Gates on steroids with a fuller low end and more output. But not too much output. It's easy to work with.

I got a 80s kramer I got a duncan custom custom in and it's definitely Panama sounding ✌️

You bet. On Panama we year a punchy tone, punchy chords coming through, and smooth leads that cut through clearly. It's not a chuggy sound, but it's full. I also put the CC into one of my Kramers, a Barretta, back in '90 or so. The CC is the only A2 mag pickup I've used for any extended amount of time. I love the EQ and the feel. It's a pickup for grownups who know tone. @@MR.KERNAN

They're really close to my ears. I have a Duncan 78 in my replica. I have a Duncan Custom in an Epiphone Explorer. I'm getting close, but I'm also intrigued by the Pariah. Would you share your signal chain?

Running a EVH iconic head green channel, and some reverb that's in my protools ,but essentially the guitar, amp to interface ✌️

I've just ordered a 78 to go in a mahogany Gibson explorer. I'm going single pickup and I'm hoping to get the sound you're getting here. Im just hoping it mates well with the Mahogany. I read somewhere that the pick up was designed too sound like Eddies Ibanez destroyer which was also a mahogany rig so I'm hoping that is true.

The Ibanez destroyer was Japanese Sen which is ash and the pickups were either the stock Super 70 or a Duncan Custom Custom.

You should compare the two pickups in the same guitar. With the differences in the woods of the two guitars and the fact that one has a Floyd Rose, are imparting a lot of tonal differences aside from the pickups.

The Pariah is just a tad too hot for my ears, but still great. Again. I dig the '78.
