Three years ago Susan Walker adopted the name and founded a movement of women artisans in 34 counties around the globe using their time honored skills to create beautiful clothing and home decor. And now Ibu has collaborated with actress and style icon Ali MacGraw to design a summer collection promoting self sufficiency for these women and showcasing the beauty of their traditions and craft. I'm Indonesian and allow me to correct the fabulous Ms Walker. The word "ibu" in Indonesian has 2 meanings. First is the word for mother. The second is a form of respectful prefix to a woman, regardless of her age and marital status. That is why in Indonesia we don't have Women's Day. Instead we have Hari Ibu (Day of Ibu) every 22nd December to comemorate the awakening of Indonesian women from different ethnic groups, religious background, ages & marital status who declared their support for one nation in Dec 22nd, 1928.

“Textiles are a woman’s story, they’re the women’s texts.” I would’ve loved this just based on Susan’s impeccable style and taste but her vision and passion. She is amazing, beauty, brains & heart! I had goosebumps the entire time, so moved! And then Ali and her gorgeousness and talent, LOVE the colors and patterns! And no surprise Carolyne Roehm is modeling in the show, in the stunning ensemble she wore in another video I saw (and lusted over). Charleston must be one of the happiest places on Earth!!!

Ali is indeed the right person for this because she has that exotic beauty essence about her and my goodness she is still gorgeous. When women get older their beauty becomes magical.
Ibu means mother in Indonesian language. Indonesia has a lot of traditional handwoven fabrics from its western to the most eastern part. The women for ages have been responsible to weave fabrics. One of the reasons is because the operating mechanism of traditional equipments they use may harm the reproduction system of the men for the long run

Yes, it is a business and it needs to make money to be viable but it is a social enterprise - a lot of the profits go back into investing locally. May be you should stop being an armchair critic and do something similar yourself.
