I thought that Heather and Alejandro was a great couple and the fact that they betrayed each other in the contest wasn’t hurting their relationship, that they could separate it. I thought they was one of the strongest couples in the show.
The worst part about Courtney and Duncan is that Courtney (the "good girl") was the most toxic one in their relationship. Duncan (the "bad boy") was almost having a good influence on her.

I haven’t finished the show yet (in the middle of TD Action), but I genuinely used to think Duncan and Courtney were really cute…but holy heck, the way they ruined their relationship tho… They had potential, but then they got all toxic…it just doesn’t work. They’re both just straight up abusive…

fun fact: there was a mention to the Ridonculous Race in the first episode of TDI. after Trent arrives on the island he says to Chris, “saw you on that figure skating show” , then beth says, “I saw that, one of the guys dropped their partner on her head” That was a mention to Jacque and Josee. Unfortunately it’s never explored beyond “They’re both hot.” Since Tyler’s eliminated super early in Season 1, not included in Season 2. And for the limited amount of time they’re together in Season 3, Lindsay is shown to be so stupid that she can’t even recognize Tyler. And when she finally does, she’s eliminated.

Lindsay and Tylers relationship is MUCH more than physical because even though Lindsay forgets what Tyler looks like in action a good quarter of her character is “Where is Tyler?” Both of them are so genuine and sweet to eachother even when Lindsay doesn’t remember what he looks like

I always hated that Gwen got almost all the backlash for the cheating when Duncan was just as responsible. I personally hated how he didn't even try to help Gwen through all the torment she was going through and only came by when he wanted to kiss her again. I know getting involved with Duncan in the first place was a pretty dumb thing to do for Gwen since she and everyone else knew how vengeful and possesive Courtney is, but that applies even more to Duncan given how often he causes problems and then runs away from them like a coward. I wish Gwen had found someone who actually deserved her.
I think it's because From Duncan it's always expected he do the Dick move, in this case trying to get with Gwen. But Gwn being one of the few Good characters in the show goes with his actions when she's got Trent. This could be because of Trent's developing clingy behavior. But she knew who Duncan was, she knew he had a thing with Courtney and Trent was still trying to make things work Between the Two. So the thing is whom would you get mad at. The Bad Guy who does the Ba driving or the Good Person who is doing the same Bad thing.
@Mister Troll Fair enough. In the end, though, I feel it's pointless to be mad at any of them since it was a no-win situation for all of them. No one came out of it better, and everyone lost something substantial to them, so I guess it all balances out in the end. Sometimes karma really does do all the work for you.
They are the most "normal" characters on the show, every other character overreacts to every situation meanwhile the goths just sort of roll with it. It's on the other end of the extreme but closer to how the average person would react most of the time
Honestly, Gwen is one of the best characters in the whole series. She tried to repair her friendships, she knew what she wanted, and she was all around very caring for her fellow islanders/friends. Even towards Heather, she would be very open-minded towards others.

I would argue that Cody and Sierra are in that spot in between Grey Area and Toxic with it being basically confirmed that Cody did end up together with Sierra as ROTI's opening you can see in the scene where the OG cast is partying on the yacht Sierra giving Cody one of the hugs she usually gives him and Cody is actually enjoying the hug.

I knew Crimson and Ennui would be at the top. I'm glad Carrie and Devin is mid tier since they really were a mess. I actually shipped Carrie and Ryan more. They actually got along really well. I would have moved Zoke to 4th behind the ones mentioned. Duncan and Courtney was dead on arrival frankly.

Personal opinion: Bridgett and Geoff’s relationship should be bottom tier grey area. They were physically more into each other than emotionally, hence all the kissing and arguing, if he cared about her as much as he says he does he would of acknowledged her frustration with his change of personality and gone back to his real self. When you’re partner says you’ve changed 9/10 you’ve changed and it’s not likely for the best if they have to acknowledge it so often
I loved Duncney SO much. Their good girl bad boy thing was the begining of my adiction to enemies to lovers with. I always hated how they did my girl Courtney dirty in S2. They just made her horrible for the drama.
Lindsay and Tyler are one of the healthiest couples honestly. They find each other attractive and immediately try getting together without going through weird miscommunication or anything. They spend time together during the volleyball challenge, in which Tyler reassures Lindsay she’s pretty and defends her from Heather. In Action, she misses him and wants him back. And when he returns in World Tour, though she doesn’t remember him, she still longs for him. She doesn’t remember his face or even name sometimes, but she knows she loves him and wants him around, what’s more romantic than that? Plus, she never actively cheats on Tyler with Alejandro like Bridgette did, though she does find him attractive. She doesn’t laugh at Tyler during the Aftermath thing, and says she’d never laugh at him. Tyler, though upset she doesn’t remember him, tries to help her remember and waits for her, never cheating or going behind her back. He defends her fashion choices in the Paris episode too. Not to mention there’s a very small scene where Lindsay says “I love when people call me baby”, and when Noah tells Tyler to write that down, Tyler tries to do it but says “I don’t have a pen”. If Tyler had a pen, he would’ve made a note to himself that Lindsay likes being called baby. What is more adorable than that? They’re supportive, longing, kind, and attentive to each other. Literally amazing together.
As someone who has only seen the first season, it sucks that Duncan and Courtney’s relationship went down like that, they were my favourite couple from the first season :(

Nemma deserves to be higher. Let's be real Emma brought out the good in Noah (which you claimed he was anything but), and Noah allowed Emma to relax more. Sure emma broke Noah's heart, but in the end love was restored and stronger than ever
S1 Duncney was nice! I loved seeing them together, and was overall satisfied. The rest of the seasons makes it bad. I wouldn’t blame Courtney entirely, as Duncan was kinda a dick too. Showing that it was bound to fall apart. Noah and Emma are my fav. Noah’s just my favorite character, plus it was interesting to see him go from a snarky know-it-all to someone who’s a little nicer. He changed entirely from s1 to the Rodonculious Race, and I like that! Also Emma and Noah are perfect together? At first I didn’t like it, but it grew on me. I wish they don’t get broken up. Emma’s ex dumped her for being too intense, just hope that doesn’t happen.
SPOILERS FROM THE REBOOT I’d say that Bowie and Raj’s relationship would be on par with Bridgett and Geoff’s, given how healthy they are to each other, Bowie actively risking himself in challenges to help out Raj, and even going as far as to make a move that would have prevented SO much unnecessary drama- pausing their relationship for the time of the competition, and promising to go on a real date later. …I don’t think much needs to be said about Emma and Chase. Toxic.
Crimson and Ennui are the best couple. They're supportive of each other even in their times of crisis, and they care deeply about each other and each other's wants. How Sam and Dakota work is that Sam loves Dakota unconditionally. And when Dakota transformed due to toxic waste exposure, Sam loved her new look and supported her, giving her a cool name to go with it, "The Dakotaziod." And Dakota realized Sam was there for her.
My favs in this are Crimson & Ennui, Leshawna & Harold, Lindsay & Tyler, and Noah & Emma And for those who assumed there'd be WAY more than just 4 Toxic relationships, it only FEELS like all the relationships are toxic, because the show puts nearly all the focus on the toxic ones, and almost nothing for the truly healthy relationships. And when they do focus on the healthy ones, it's more so them in down points on their relationships. That's why it just feels like there are more toxic relationships in the show than there actually are. I would really love to see more focus put on the healthy couples, especially Leshawna and Harold, who aren't even exclusive in the show! I would love to see them work things out and hook up. Even if they don't hook up, it's still cuter to watch than Courtney abusing Duncan for four seasons.

i loved gwen + trent and duncan + courtney the most in tdi! as soon as action started, both relationships began their downfall; trent becoming extremely obsessive over gwen that also led to jealousy, and ignoring what she said she wanted (a fair game), to give her what he thought she wanted (him throwing the challenges for her). courtney however just became extremely controlling toward duncan and that put him off big time.

Geoff and Bridget are the only OG couple to survive to this day. We enjoyed Gwen and Trent at first, but even without acknowledging the unfair circumstance he faced due to Heather’s sabotage and gained invincibility, TDA spelled the end for the two since Trent kept throwing the challenges. Thanks to Harold, Courtney and Duncan couldn’t have had enough proper time to embrace each other before Courtney’s worst self came to fruition.

Well, Lindsay and Tyler are still alive too! There was discussion on how there was gonna be some plot in All Stars confirming they broke up because she forgot his name at his parents’ place, but it was scrapped into not being canon. What I hate about Total Drama is how they make the most interesting couples (Or ships) horribly written as they never had a piece of chemistry. I also hate the fact they just fixated on the Zoey x Mike relationship (Zoey is honestly my most hated character). Duncan deceived Gwen and he cheated on Courtney. It turns out that the creators of Total Drama actually ship Gwent and Duncney but network executives forced both couples to get flanderized and broken up for stupid reasons against the creators’ will. Duncney was not originally supposed to turn abusive but networks forced these changes to their relationship. Gwuncan was never originally supposed to be canon but network executives forced this idea too.

I totally agree with your ranking. My Total Drama OTP is Duncan/Gwen even with all their problems. It'd be nice if they could work things out because they are so fun to watch together and one of the few couples with mutual interest. My second favorite couple is Crimson/Ennui. They are an awesome Goth couple! They may not be as fun and interesting as Duncan and Gwen are together, but still very good. The Goth deserve the Gold Medal of most healthy couple! I really would like to see more of them. I'd be cool to see Gwen and Duncan's reaction to them. Maybe seeing such a great couple like them would inspire Gwen and Duncan to give it a real chance. I had like Duncan and Courtney in season 1, but how awful she was in season 2 and on made me really dislike her character. She ended up being awful to Scott and Gwen too!
Gwuncan was actually a mistake that was forced on Fresh TV by network executives. It was never originally supposed to be canon and both Gwent and Duncney were not originally supposed to break up.

The network executives said that they wanted to teach kids that couples break up and possibly preferred pairings with more similarities; even though the creators actually hated the networks' ideas. The networks flanderized Courtney into turning abusive to trick people into thinking Gwuncan was "good" even though it was all a toxic setup. They were friends, he helped he through her Trent situation, he knew so many things about her as shown in the Season 2 finale, and he took a leech for her. He only liked Courtney for her appearance, that was established from the very beginning. His advances toward Courtney started because he found her physically appealing, but he didn’t start to flirt with Gwen until after they were friends showing that he cared more about her personality. Like I said, whatever FreshTV says happened is not what they showed. It like Thomas Astruc saying Chloe from Miraculous Ladybug is irredeemable despite her having a developing character arc. Duncney was never meant to break up? Fine, but that doesn’t change the fact that they were toxic from the get go. Courtney physically abused Duncan many times and it was played for laughs. Gwen never did that.

Duncan's so-called acts of consideration were actually just shallow attributes that were never romantic. Trent showed real attributes of love towards Gwen and he didn't judge her by shallow features. Networks unfortunately also derailed Trent and Gwen in Total Drama Action. Fresh TV is the studio that created Total Drama and they said that Duncan didn't truly love Gwen and he was actually into Courtney. This would be a fact, it's not an opinion or assumption.
I'll probably get a ton of hates for this. 😬 Duncan and Courtney is the couple I thought of when my mother gave me a message on my sweet 16 to "look for princes, not frogs. Look for a man whom you love for who you are, and not one you expect to change for you." I wouldn't want to be in Duncan and Courtney's relationship. Courtney thought Duncan was too flawed and not the right guy for her and tried to get him to change, despite wanting him for a boyfriend. She treated Duncan like a robot! It's no wonder Duncan cheated on her! Be in a relationship with someone you WANT to be with, not someone you feel uncomfortable and controlled by!
Ever since i found out that the show networks (CN & Teletoon) pushed the writers to make Duncen and Gwen a couple i have been so upset about it because the relationships they had in the first season were great especially Duncan's and Courtney's and it makes me wonder what would of happened if they didnt push the writers to do so. And its obvious that the writers didn't want or expect to do it with how bad those storylines are in the later seasons. Like how Trent randomly started going insane in season 2 with out any reason to why or how courtney just goes back to her overly controlling ways in season 2 with also no reason as to why. (even the show writer Tom Mcgillis said that he despised Gwuncan)

Unfortunately it’s never explored beyond “They’re both hot.” Since Tyler’s eliminated super early in Season 1, not included in Season 2. And for the limited amount of time they’re together in Season 3, Lindsay is shown to be so stupid that she can’t even recognize Tyler. And when she finally does, she’s eliminated.

I always hated that Gwen got almost all the backlash for the cheating when Duncan was just as responsible. I personally hated how he didn't even try to help Gwen through all the torment she was going through and only came by when he wanted to kiss her again. I know getting involved with Duncan in the first place was a pretty dumb thing to do for Gwen since she and everyone else knew how vengeful and possesive Courtney is, but that applies even more to Duncan given how often he causes problems and then runs away from them like a coward. I wish Gwen had found someone who actually deserved her.
I think it's because From Duncan it's always expected he do the Dick move, in this case trying to get with Gwen. But Gwn being one of the few Good characters in the show goes with his actions when she's got Trent.
This could be because of Trent's developing clingy behavior. But she knew who Duncan was, she knew he had a thing with Courtney and Trent was still trying to make things work Between the Two.
So the thing is whom would you get mad at. The Bad Guy who does the Ba driving or the Good Person who is doing the same Bad thing.
@Mister Troll Fair enough. In the end, though, I feel it's pointless to be mad at any of them since it was a no-win situation for all of them. No one came out of it better, and everyone lost something substantial to them, so I guess it all balances out in the end. Sometimes karma really does do all the work for you.

They are the most "normal" characters on the show, every other character overreacts to every situation meanwhile the goths just sort of roll with it. It's on the other end of the extreme but closer to how the average person would react most of the time
Honestly, Gwen is one of the best characters in the whole series. She tried to repair her friendships, she knew what she wanted, and she was all around very caring for her fellow islanders/friends. Even towards Heather, she would be very open-minded towards others.

Gwent was so cute, but I hated how everyone basically made fun of Trent bc of what I assume was OCD (which I’m diagnosed with, so I felt really bad when he was portrayed as weird and creepy for it 😤)

Then his heartbreak, and realization that he's in love with Carrie. I just did not like the romantic chemistry between them. Ryan was a much better fit for Carrie.

Personal opinion: Bridgett and Geoff’s relationship should be bottom tier grey area. They were physically more into each other than emotionally, hence all the kissing and arguing, if he cared about her as much as he says he does he would of acknowledged her frustration with his change of personality and gone back to his real self. When you’re partner says you’ve changed 9/10 you’ve changed and it’s not likely for the best if they have to acknowledge it so often
I loved Duncney SO much. Their good girl bad boy thing was the begining of my adiction to enemies to lovers with. I always hated how they did my girl Courtney dirty in S2. They just made her horrible for the drama.
Lindsay and Tyler are one of the healthiest couples honestly. They find each other attractive and immediately try getting together without going through weird miscommunication or anything. They spend time together during the volleyball challenge, in which Tyler reassures Lindsay she’s pretty and defends her from Heather. In Action, she misses him and wants him back. And when he returns in World Tour, though she doesn’t remember him, she still longs for him. She doesn’t remember his face or even name sometimes, but she knows she loves him and wants him around, what’s more romantic than that? Plus, she never actively cheats on Tyler with Alejandro like Bridgette did, though she does find him attractive. She doesn’t laugh at Tyler during the Aftermath thing, and says she’d never laugh at him. Tyler, though upset she doesn’t remember him, tries to help her remember and waits for her, never cheating or going behind her back. He defends her fashion choices in the Paris episode too. Not to mention there’s a very small scene where Lindsay says “I love when people call me baby”, and when Noah tells Tyler to write that down, Tyler tries to do it but says “I don’t have a pen”. If Tyler had a pen, he would’ve made a note to himself that Lindsay likes being called baby. What is more adorable than that? They’re supportive, longing, kind, and attentive to each other. Literally amazing together.

Realistically, I've always liked Bridgette and Geoff as a couple, but fictionally speaking, Heather&Alejandro and S1!Courtney&Duncan were THE shit
Duncan, Courtney and Gwen was such a drama bomb that it became a critical plot point for the show. It’s crazy how things got on occasion.
As someone who has only seen the first season, it sucks that Duncan and Courtney’s relationship went down like that, they were my favourite couple from the first season :(
The writers were told by the network (Teletoon) to break up most of the couples, thats why Ducan and Courtney got fucked over and Gwen and Trent.

S1 Duncney was nice! I loved seeing them together, and was overall satisfied. The rest of the seasons makes it bad. I wouldn’t blame Courtney entirely, as Duncan was kinda a dick too. Showing that it was bound to fall apart.
Noah and Emma are my fav. Noah’s just my favorite character, plus it was interesting to see him go from a snarky know-it-all to someone who’s a little nicer. He changed entirely from s1 to the Rodonculious Race, and I like that! Also Emma and Noah are perfect together? At first I didn’t like it, but it grew on me. I wish they don’t get broken up. Emma’s ex dumped her for being too intense, just hope that doesn’t happen.
Yeah it was a beautiful dynamic in season 1. She learned to take herself less serious and have fun. And then season 2 hit.

I’d say that Bowie and Raj’s relationship would be on par with Bridgett and Geoff’s, given how healthy they are to each other, Bowie actively risking himself in challenges to help out Raj, and even going as far as to make a move that would have prevented SO much unnecessary drama- pausing their relationship for the time of the competition, and promising to go on a real date later.
…I don’t think much needs to be said about Emma and Chase. Toxic.
Crimson and Ennui are the best couple. They're supportive of each other even in their times of crisis, and they care deeply about each other and each other's wants.
How Sam and Dakota work is that Sam loves Dakota unconditionally. And when Dakota transformed due to toxic waste exposure, Sam loved her new look and supported her, giving her a cool name to go with it, "The Dakotaziod." And Dakota realized Sam was there for her.
Even though Duncan and Courtney are by far my fav couple, I couldnt agree more with their place. It started all beautiful, i wish it stayed that way

And for those who assumed there'd be WAY more than just 4 Toxic relationships, it only FEELS like all the relationships are toxic, because the show puts nearly all the focus on the toxic ones, and almost nothing for the truly healthy relationships. And when they do focus on the healthy ones, it's more so them in down points on their relationships. That's why it just feels like there are more toxic relationships in the show than there actually are.
I would really love to see more focus put on the healthy couples, especially Leshawna and Harold, who aren't even exclusive in the show! I would love to see them work things out and hook up. Even if they don't hook up, it's still cuter to watch than Courtney abusing Duncan for four seasons.

i loved gwen + trent and duncan + courtney the most in tdi! as soon as action started, both relationships began their downfall; trent becoming extremely obsessive over gwen that also led to jealousy, and ignoring what she said she wanted (a fair game), to give her what he thought she wanted (him throwing the challenges for her). courtney however just became extremely controlling toward duncan and that put him off big time.

Geoff and Bridget are the only OG couple to survive to this day. We enjoyed Gwen and Trent at first, but even without acknowledging the unfair circumstance he faced due to Heather’s sabotage and gained invincibility, TDA spelled the end for the two since Trent kept throwing the challenges. Thanks to Harold, Courtney and Duncan couldn’t have had enough proper time to embrace each other before Courtney’s worst self came to fruition.
Gwen and Trent had so much potential…but then Trent just got completely out of character and now they’ve ruined it and now I am eternally salty about that.

Honestly I thought Duncan's and Gwen's relationship was pretty good. Hell, I shipped them back in TDI since they seemed so similar. Until "All Stars" screwed them over.
I did too! It was a shame that the writers would do break them up.
I also kind of think that it would be better if they woudent involve Gwen in so much love-drama.
What I hate about Total Drama is how they make the most interesting couples (Or ships) horribly written as they never had a piece of chemistry. I also hate the fact they just fixated on the Zoey x Mike relationship (Zoey is honestly my most hated character). Even though I’m not a fan of Gwen and Duncan, I still thought they would at least remain a good relationship, but not lovey dovey like some other ones

I totally agree with your ranking. My Total Drama OTP is Duncan/Gwen even with all their problems. It'd be nice if they could work things out because they are so fun to watch together and one of the few couples with mutual interest. My second favorite couple is Crimson/Ennui. They are an awesome Goth couple! They may not be as fun and interesting as Duncan and Gwen are together, but still very good. The Goth deserve the Gold Medal of most healthy couple! I really would like to see more of them. I'd be cool to see Gwen and Duncan's reaction to them. Maybe seeing such a great couple like them would inspire Gwen and Duncan to give it a real chance. I had like Duncan and Courtney in season 1, but how awful she was in season 2 and on made me really dislike her character. She ended up being awful to Scott and Gwen too!
Gwuncan was actually a mistake that was forced on Fresh TV by network executives. It was never originally supposed to be canon and both Gwent and Duncney were not originally supposed to break up.

What matters is their development and how they treated each other and Gwuncan is definitely better than Duncney in that regard. Gwen never forced Duncan to do anything he didn’t want to, never gave him a 32 page list on everything he needed to change about himself, never hit him in his private parts for no good reason, and didn’t leave him while he was injured for $100,000. Courtney was toxic since Season 1, but Gwen and Duncan got along well from the beginning.

According to Fresh TV's social media, Duncan never truly loved Gwen and he only liked her for her physical appearances and similarities. He took advantage of Gwen by tricking her into loving him for shallow reasons and into doing things that she would not normally do.
Duncan never treated Gwen with kindness or any other attributes of real love. He deceived her and made her betray her real friends and Courtney.
Duncney became toxic because it was flanderized by networks.
Gwuncan was created out of toxicity and continued being toxic because it was nothing more than cheating and manipulation.
Tom McGillis originally planned for Gwen and Trent to stay as a couple and the same thing for Duncan and Courtney.
However, Cartoon Network and Teletoon's executives forced flanderizations to both couples and broke them up then made Gwuncan canon for stupid reasons.
The network executives said that they wanted to teach kids that couples break up and possibly preferred pairings with more similarities; even though the creators actually hated the networks' ideas.
The networks flanderized Courtney into turning abusive to trick people into thinking Gwuncan was "good" even though it was all a toxic setup.
Love is not about physical appearances or similarities and the networks gave horrible examples of a relationship.

@@gothikaxenon What they say and what they showed is completely different. Duncan didn’t show an ounce of kindness toward Gwen?? They were friends, he helped he through her Trent situation, he knew so many things about her as shown in the Season 2 finale, and he took a leech for her.
How could he possibly only like her for her physical appearance if they were actually friends and got along well?? He only liked Courtney for her appearance, that was established from the very beginning. His advances toward Courtney started because he found her physically appealing, but he didn’t start to flirt with Gwen until after they were friends showing that he cared more about her personality.
Like I said, whatever FreshTV says happened is not what they showed. It like Thomas Astruc saying Chloe from Miraculous Ladybug is irredeemable despite her having a developing character arc.
Duncney was never meant to break up? Fine, but that doesn’t change the fact that they were toxic from the get go. Courtney physically abused Duncan many times and it was played for laughs. Gwen never did that.

Fresh TV is the studio that created Total Drama and they said that Duncan didn't truly love Gwen and he was actually into Courtney.

Duncan and Courtney is the couple I thought of when my mother gave me a message on my sweet 16 to "look for princes, not frogs. Look for a man whom you love for who you are, and not one you expect to change for you."
I wouldn't want to be in Duncan and Courtney's relationship. Courtney thought Duncan was too flawed and not the right guy for her and tried to get him to change, despite wanting him for a boyfriend. She treated Duncan like a robot! It's no wonder Duncan cheated on her! Be in a relationship with someone you WANT to be with, not someone you feel uncomfortable and controlled by!
Ever since i found out that the show networks (CN & Teletoon) pushed the writers to make Duncen and Gwen a couple i have been so upset about it because the relationships they had in the first season were great especially Duncan's and Courtney's and it makes me wonder what would of happened if they didnt push the writers to do so. And its obvious that the writers didn't want or expect to do it with how bad those storylines are in the later seasons. Like how Trent randomly started going insane in season 2 with out any reason to why or how courtney just goes back to her overly controlling ways in season 2 with also no reason as to why.
