- Schools have closed, homes were evacuated and 9,000 properties are without power as Storm Ciarán continues to cause disruption in the UK and Channel Islands.
A total of 79 flood warnings were issued by the Environment Agency, with most along the south coast. A further 197 alerts are in place for possible flooding.
The Channel Islands have been some of the worst affected, where a red weather warning - meaning there is a potential risk to life - remains in place.
A major incident was declared in Jersey, where three people were hospitalised and dozens were forced to take refuge in a hotel, after winds of up to 104mph damaged properties.

I’m in the south…hardly more wind than a usual November..this is just typical media sensationalism! Much stronger storms a few years ago..
I'm on the south coast too and heard nothing.
I'm worried about the shed in my garden....
It wasn't there this morning
Garden sheds often migrate at this time of year don't worry it will be back early spring. 🇬🇧
@@andrewdaley5480Located it. It's an albanian grow room now
Chaos here in Manchester every supermarket ran out of sun tan lotion
im not surprised with the Global Boiling we are seeing
But they had loo rolls!!
These are just mere trifles compared to the storms in the 1970's and 80's. Us Britons are world renowned for moaning about the weather, but it's getting absolutely stupid. I mean who in their right mind would forecast storms in November. If it's not wind, it's rain, it's no rain, it's heat, it's cold, it's snow, it's ice, it's pathetic. It's weather, happens every year.
This storm has absolutely mental; leaves flying everywhere. It’s crazy.
I feel sorry for all those who suffered in this storm, But London wise it was bearly noticed, we got a bit of rain, but that was it, no wind to speak of, and not even that much rain
Agree, it was just rain in London, we were lucky.
Thats the advantage of living in land it slows down and breaks up storms heading in from the coastal line
The rain couldn't afford the tfl charges.

02:35 '...but it has left this community completely cut off'
It is important for trust in established media that they don't exaggerate. 'Completely' cut off should be used only if the roads are blocked in my opinion. Maybe there's only one road in and there was a fallen tree, but we're not told that.
The last place name mentioned was Falmouth, there's several roads into that. But that was a different clip, this clip begins labelled only 'Chloe Keedy, Cornwall'. Cornwall is an entire county and is not 'cut off'.
The clip with spray across the lighthouse on the breakwater before cutting back to the news anchor is unlabeled, it may be Newhaven in Sussex but they should have put a small caption.
This is needlessly sloppy, it's supposed to be professional.
the means justify the ends.
Haha .... I read the video title .... Then 8 minutes of nothing but talk .... A flooded road .... And a curtain blowing around in the wind 😂😂
I hope everybody is OK and safe.
Hope everyone in Uk stay safe..,from malaysia of Borneo
The hailstones must be a record for the UK, I've not heard of the size of a golf ball in the uk before.
pretty common actually
It was quite bad in kidderminster I saw a wheelie bin on its side, and branches the size of twigs on the pavements
😮
I saw a bin give a blowy to a lamp post, terrifying
As a Brit living in Florida for the past forty years I get this. I’ve seen the damage that Hurricane Andrew did in 1992. Fortunately, the UK didn’t get a category 5. That’s why everyone has storm shutters here.
We occasionally get winds gusting in excess of 100mph in the UK, but we survive. It's nothing new.
how safe is Florida compared to UK?
Ok
In Channel Islands I can confirm it’s chaos
Trees uprooted, vans flipped over and roofs missing in Devon
All schools closed here in Southampton but no storm going on just a bit of rain.
@RickgamesnowsloveschildrenI think these kids need to check their privileges nowadays
Probably all closed anyway because of RAAC concrete; lack of water pressure; covid emergencies, staff cuts, and local council going bankrupt.
Are the schools not closed anyway for holiday again lol

Imagine if we could harness all that wind speed to power the homes 😢
Thats all you can do, because after 55mph the wind turbines became missiles, wind will never be a part of the solution let alone the answer to it, on average they need 50-60 acres of land per turbine to be efficient for reference a full size football pitch is just over an acre. It's political Virtue signaling.
And imagine if everyone could harness energy through the perpetual movement of rivers and streams 😮

Remember to use only tempered glass for your windows.
Remer the cost for temperd glass far out weights the risk from storms.
Also, sometimes tempered glass isn't the best thing to use.
Although strong, if it's subject to a sharp shock from a pointed object like the edge of a big hail or a small stone it just explodes into cubes and your windows gone.
Regular glass may crack/shatter but more likely for actual window to hold together
